One of the best games in the past decade.

    • +2

It may make you feel old like me, but the original game itself came out all the way back in 2012…

Never played it. Getting it now.

A man who never eats pork buns, is never a whole man!

Considering it was at least $70 or more on the PS4 when it came out in Q4 2014. Man did we have fun back then.
And currently $39.95 for playstation: https://store.playstation.com/en-au/product/EP0082-CUSA01004…

Back on sale again! Last on sale back in October.

Has actually gone on sale quite a few times since, November and December last year as well as February this year (it's just that it's not always posted here on OzB)

Check SteamDB if you ever want a full price history for a game :D

    Still a banger price though!

Loyalty, discretion, used to be more common.

    • I miss GOG Galaxy 1.4, I never liked 2.0

      • +1

I miss HK pre 1997.7, never liked 1997.7+

    • If you're gonna get this, I'd suggest GoG version instead, it claims to have cloud saves where the Steam version doesn't

      • Thanks for the heads up, nearly got it on Steam but this has swayed me

  • I've been wanting to play this again for a while. Just checked out the price on Xbox. $5.99. I'll take it. Thanks OP.

If playing on xsx it has 60fps boost and HDR which is nice!

Really wish the sequel did come out. One of the best games ever!

    • +3

I played it in Alpha phase invite only. Completely different game, had zero connection with no story whatsoever.

      • +3

I think you're talking about Triad Wars, that weird MMO spin-off. From what I remember, the sequel was supposed to follow Shen and a corrupt partner, but everything was scrapped before it even went into production.

        • +5

Yeah that was the only “sequel” it ever got. There was nothing else that came to fruition at all in terms of true sequel. The spin off was the only game considered remotely connected to this world they built.

          • +1

@Tuttorix: So… not a sequel. Glad we're on the same page lol

            • +1

@SunsetCowboy: Yep. Sequel never came to fruition. It was all scraped. Could never remember the exact reason why though.

      • +2

That spin-off was so terrible and sad to play.
I also went through the Alpha phase and it really felt like they were trying to emulate those Farmville style Facebook games that were popular at the time with the energy requirements and repetitive tasks.
Such a sad end to a brilliant IP.

Have yet to find a sleeping dog in the game

    • +1

      Check the BBQ cart :D

  • Sweet game on release

  • I have the original version in library. Any specific reason I should completely rebuy the game for the DLC?

    • +2

The DLC is pretty great, and if memory serves the "definitive edition" had some graphical and audio upgrades.

      • +2

And the Police Uniform as an unlockable outfit. Replaying certain missions with their cutscenes makes it all worthwhile.

I fought the law and the law won!

  • Not related. There is TV series called: Sleeping Dog (2023)

    • +6

      Thanks for letting us know….

Not related, I saw a dog sleep once.

      • Thanks for letting us know….

Not related, I hugged a sleeping dog once.

Given it's set in HK, should be $8.08

    • +1

Just a Steam game sale…not a cash only real estate purchase mate 🤣

      • +3

        NO RECEIPT LAH

  • +1

This game needed way more "diu lei lo mo"s in it.

  • +2

I actually worked on this one doing the PR campaign. Nobody had any inkling it would be as good as it was. A sequel was in development but got canned.

It always gets said, but it really is one of the best hidden gems, if you haven't played it but have any interest in GTA and the like, PLEASE give it a go, it's got such a great twist on the formula, and who knows, maybe the rights holders will choose to make a sequel if it continues to sell via word of mouth (although, sadly, United Front Games who made it shut their doors in 2016, so would have to come from someone else - and open world games like that are costly to produce).

  • +5

It's downright criminal we never got a sequel. Those hum gar chahns at Squenix should do something about it.

  • Awesome game, but I've not been able to get it to run on modern hardware on PC unfortunately.

    • How modern?

  • this is probably the only game you will ever find Emma stone doing the voice for.

    • The entire cast in this game was amazing. Will Yun Lee, Tom Wilkinson, Byron Mann, Edison Chen, James Hong, Emma Stone, Lucy Liu, Tzi Ma, Robin Shou.

This is a good game to play on Steam Deck, runs at 60 fps easily and the power draw is quite low too. Well, the non-Definitive version of the game anyway.

      • +1

Runs at 90FPS when plugged in on performance mode.

  • Best game if you want to learn some Cantonese

    • To swear yes not in business terms but gangster terms

  • +1

Ah Diu, here we go again isn't it?

  • The atrocious driving mechanics held this game back from being a true GTA competitor.

  • Game was out before National Security Law in HK. I think lot less gangs and this kind of behavior in real life nowadays. Ah wells you can experience it in game at least.
