DeLonghi ECAM37095T Dinamica Plus Coffee Machine $999 Shipped @ Costco (Membership Required)

380

In my previous post i did say that lattego 4300 is the best under $1000 espresso machine. Which is true except that this delonghi that is rarely under 1000 is entering the bracket.

For $200 more, u get higher quality espresso, according to reviews, and more customisable milk and app link. And longer warranty.

1560 in amazon and some other stores.

Harder to clean though.

Have the standard Dinamica not the plus and only problem is that even in the hottest water setting it's not that hot. I have to but in microwave to give a a boost. Other then that fantastic machine.

    • +8

that sounds like a big negative for a lot of people

    • Are you able to measure the temp on the first brew? Just wondering.

Assuming this is max temp setting?

      • +1

        Espresso temp is fine.
The milk frother doesn't get too hot which then needs 10sec in the microwave. I have this machine too

    • Hot tip (pardon the pun).

Steam the milk first, and steam it manually (as the auto milk is just a draw through with ambient air). Purge some hot water through the steam wand, then make your coffee. Even in auto mode, the end coffee will still be hotter.

The key is to heat the thermoblock above operating temp first. They are much better at coming down from too hot, than heating up mid pour.

      • So are you saying first, use the milk clean feature to purge some hot water, then discard that water.
Then choose the milk based coffee such as cappuccino?

        Thats not too bad

        • It kinda defeats the purpose of it being an "Auto" coffee machine though

    • +2

Strange. I have the plus and the coffee comes out too hot to drink. Its an awesome machine.

      • It's not the coffee, it's the milk that's not hot enough. I find that it's fine but those who like it cafe hot are left wanting.

        • Cafes keep their cups on top of the machine in the cup warmer. Of course it will be hotter.

          • +1

@Stivo: Exactly, that and frothing the milk at 65 degrees.

    • Do you preheat your cups?
When I turn on the machine, I let it rinse into my cup, then put it into the microwave for 30 seconds. For my old Delonghi auto it makes a huge difference.

    • I also have this model.

I am a cappuccino drinker. The espresso quality is great, but the milk is lukewarm.

  • We've got the standard Dinamica from back in 2018 and have always been happy with it. It's due to be replaced soon, but I want to get a https://gaggiuino.github.io/#/

    • Trying to gatekeep coffee now?

      • -1

Not sure why i got negged, i used this coffee machine with milk based coffees and it wasn’t the best. It was an honest comments from an actual user.

        • What do you mean that milk based coffee wasn't the best??? Its milk slightly flavoured by coffee…. What exactly are you expecting?

          • -2

@Stivo: Clearly you don’t know how milk is frothed for coffee.

        • +4

People think you are saying "People who drink milk based coffee's are a joke". I think from what you are saying, you mean "The milk based coffee's that this machine makes are a joke".

    • You could have worded this better. It does sound like you are generalizing people who drink milk based coffees. Particularly after the sentence "its great if you don’t know much about coffee."
Anyway that aside. I find all fully automatic machines to be inferior to manuals.
Probably more for convenience as a bean to cup machine

I bought this back in December for the same price, we are happy with it. With that said, it may not get hot enough for some people. I tend to run a 2nd rinse cycle when it starts then make a coffee after it sits for a few minutes. The temperature was one thing I was concerned with but figured it was worth the try, it hasn't really been a big issue for us.

The app works well enough, seems to have a few more options to tweak things then it saves the drink. Kind of normal automatic stuff.

Easy enough to clean as well. Filling up the water reservoir is simple as well.

    • Are you able to measure the temp on the first brew? Just wondering.

Assuming this is max temp setting?

  • Does anyone price match/beat with costco?

    • Most of the Costco products have a different product ID as they usually released just for Costco. Of it has the same product ID good guys etc should price match

  • Just to segue, more than 10 years in and still the only beat missed by the Rancilio was a busted fuse which was easily DIY replaced, also have the Rancilio Rocky grinder which is still going strong.

  • We had the previous version of this (non plus Dinamica, ECAM35055B) from Amazon for same price. After 13 months, we could see an issue where the water would leak into the coffee grounds container and thus the coffee pucks would come out all soggy. Logged a case with Delonghi and they said to take it into their repairer. Long story short, three months later, still not repaired (waiting for parts apparently) and I ended up going Karen mode and threatening them with ACCC and Fair Trading. They said to go pick it up and return it to the retailer with a letter for a full refund. I told Amazon and they refunded me without asking for the letter (probably should've went with them first up).

I ended up purchasing this Plus model in-store at Costco for the same price. I did threaten not to ever buy a Delonghi again to them, but I spoke to the lady at the returns Costco counter (on another matter) and she mentioned to me that if there was a note/email from the manufacturer saying it needed repairs under warranty, Costco would take it back. I figured that cutting out the middleman for a full refund would be just as good as a repair.

Big thing I've noticed with this version and the previous is that the coffee comes out MUCH hotter. Even the medium setting is too hot for me (perfect for the missus), whilst the hottest setting on the previous version was a tad above lukewarm. Wife now has a daily coffee whereas she'd use to just have the instant coffee that her work used to provide her.

    • Interesting, I've got the same issue at the moment with the plus version, it's not a massive deal if you empty it regularly but if you leave it too long I've seem mould start appearing.

A mate knows of a local repair agent so I might have a chat to them.

      • Thats not great news… ours was pretty much slush. I think it was leaking from behind the spout - you could see water dripping when you turned the machine on… likely a washer or something. It was drastically different to early days when it'd come out as a smooth round puck.
You'd think they wouldn't have an issue with parts if it was just a washer though

    • My PrimaDonna Soul does that. Not much, but enough that when emptying the puck container, I need to rinse it out, as coffee grounds sticks to the bottom, and the bottom pucks aren't complete and it's somewhat wet.
I've never thought it was a warranty issue, just an annoyance, but maybe yours is much worse.

      • Ours started out perfectly fine, pucks were round and solid - you could pick them up with your fingers and it wouldnt break. Described it in the comment above, but it was leaking somewhere and I think dripping directly into the grounds tray, turning them into mush. You'd go to empty the tray and its just slush from all the water

Delonghi are always monitor negative reviews posted on productreview.com.au. Anytime I have an issue, I put I amend my review and within a day or two I get a private message asking to help. A few months after warranty ran out on my primodona, the pump went out. After a complaint they offered to fix it for free.

    • I found it interesting that the coffee is too hot in your Dinamica Plus. Are your milk-based drinks also too hot?

I ask because I purchased the same model from Costco last December, but I have noticed that my milk-based drinks are only lukewarm even on the hottest setting.

      • Sorry, I should've clarified - we only have milk based coffees (cappuccinos and flat whites) and we find that hot. Whenever I order a coffee out, I find it too hot to drink and this is on par with that sort of temperature. I wonder what the difference between both ours could be??

        • +1

I'm more than happy to switch my machine with yours, lol.
So, can I just clarify, is your model De'Longhi Dinamica Plus Coffee Machine Titan ECAM37095T?

          • @Techie-Luxe: Haha my wife wouldn't agree to that with this one… She probably would've with the old model!

I'm about 99% sure it is. I only bought it a couple of weeks ago in-store for the same price as this delivered

    • +1

Costco have a good return policy

  • I've been tasked with finding a new machine for the office. Only low to medium use (in the age of WFH) and I would think around about this price is where I'd be looking (possible a bit more if justified). Is this the kind of range I should be focusing on? Fully automatic only.

    • I'd go fully automatic. for this budget, its probably ok.
Honestly anything outside the Jura z10 for a fully automatic is going to be less of that holistic coffee making. From tests z10 was ahead with flavours etc.
If people want to have decent coffee, an oracle would be better. Obviously if want the best but more reliance on skill. The dual boiler and grinder is the way to go.

      • +1

I have an old Jura at home that I swear by and would be my preference. But the z10 is 4x the price of this though so would be a much harder sell. We currently have a Delonghi Magnifica S which makes absolute mud-water.

    • Just be aware the water tanks on these (and most likely others in the price range) are pretty small

  • Phillips 4300 might still ultimately be better value for $799 then?

    • up =) interested to know too. i posted in the page for 4300 but not much replies except from OP.
i currently have philips lattego 2200 which is ok. so i assume that 4300 is pretty much similar to 2200 but with more options.

    • +1

it all depends how much you want to spend. You keep going up in price, you keep getting better product, there is a point of diminishing return though… id still go the jura i linked above if i was going fully auto, pour the milk in any milk pitcher to draw contents.

problem is i would never go fully auto

  • How does this compare with breville dual boiler?

    • It doesn't.

      • no good?

        • dual boiler is better than the oracle and oracle is miles ahead of this

          • @maverickjohn: Wait really, so why would anyone pay a similar price for this machine?

            • +1

@bumluffa: Because it's fully automatic. Pretty much one button for the machine to grind bean, tamp, pour a shot, froth milk etc.
You don't need to learn how to make a coffee for something like this. Although it's good to learn how to adjust the coarseness of the bean

        • You simply can't compare the 2, i have a Delonghi Prima Donna S Deluxe and a Breville Express Impress, think of it as going to 7/11 or any servo for that matter, and grabbing a coffee from a cafe. There is a distinct difference.

          • @Snowy83: Very late reply here. Are you saying the Delonghi Prima Donna S Deluxe is better than the Breville Express Impress?

            • @bisaya: No definitely not lol. Manual machines will give yourself much better coffee. Not even close

              • @Snowy83: ah thank you. I am tossing up between Delonghi Magnifica Fully Automatic Coffee Machine ECAM12122B
OR the Breville the Barista Express Impress Espresso Machine, Brushed Stainless Steel, BES876BSS

I just don't know enough about machines. I've only owned a couple of nespresso machines but keen to try beans now.

Any suggestions? Does it take forever using manual like the breville I listed?

                • @bisaya: I have the Express Impress and it is a pretty easy process mate to be honest. I use auto dose etc and pull the tamp lever and away I go, once you dial in its pretty consistent. Only thing you need to really work on is the frothing Milk but that's pretty easy.

I don't feel the need to go out for "real" coffee anymore. When I had the automatic I felt the need to still go to a cafe for that "real" coffee.

                  • @Snowy83: yeah I might go for the express impress. The difference isn't that big especially if I plan on keeping it for a while

                    Thanks for your input mate
