Best fully automatic
I don't want the trouble n mess of manual and don't want capsule
Have the model under this and has been going strong for 2-3 years as long as you descale, check seals and a good clean here and there you’re golden
Yeah, my breville bes980 has needed 3x repairs in 2 years.
Bes920 only 1.
I've had the Breville Barista Pro for years (after an ozb deal) and I reckon it's in the sweet spot for making a very good espresso with small bench footprint (integrated grinder), before the diminishing returns of getting into higher end machines where you need more expertise.
Same with the express.
Why do these dual boilers need so much maintenance/ frequent repairs? I was looking at getting a used one, but will likely pass now.
I'm considering the barista touch impress, but seen very mixed user experiences
hold on, i was going to get a dual boiler next. so don't get one?
@Hugh G Rection: IMHO the dual boilers are great value for money and generally reliable machines.
This guy is saying only one issue with Dual Boiler (BES920) vs 3 with Oracle (BES980). But that could just be he was lucky with his Dual Boiler.
I have had to take my Oracle back twice in 2 years for maintenance. They told me it's due to hard water and that I need to descale it more often. I live in Perth CBD and my understanding is that Perth CBD has extremely hard water, terrible for your appliances (and probably pipes…). I use a filter on my tap water, that I replace every 6 months, but maybe that's not enough.
I could be wrong, but my understanding is these machines are plastic inside and hard water really does a job on them.
Had similar issues with my BES980, but probably caused by the super hard water in my builder. I do have a filter but I don't think it's enough.
I really like the auto-milk, so not keen on the 920. If BES980 ever breaks for good I don't know what I'll replace it with. I don't know what options are out there for auto-milk, weren't many last time I looked…
Possibly, but the biggest problem is they don't actually make real espresso.
I have a delonghi magnifica and it makes excellent coffee and has been very reliable.
I have to froth the milk manually, but coffee machines can certainly do that amazingly well (eg bambino plus).
I’ve got the magnifica as well. decent coffee I reckon.
Have you done any maintenance other than regular descaling yet?
That and clean the bean press every now and again (behind the water tank)
@BlazedSnake: Agree, magnifica is quite good. Had ours for years now. Frother nob broke but using frother jugs. We also have 2 milks so got 2 of them. Found the correct setting and not far from our favorite coffee place.
@Mikael: I went from buying 4 to 5 coffee's a day to just using the magnifica, I've had it for about a year and its still going like new (well over 1000 coffees made).
@BlazedSnake: I clean that every night with a Kmart baby wipe.
No, but I understand some users like to dismantle things and clean the seals.
Literally just set mine up and had my first coffee lol. Any tips for settings etc?
Leave everything stock for like the first 10-20 coffees as the machine needs to break in before you get decent tasting coffee.
fully automatic
Well it’s a yes from me
Have had this for about 2 years. Havent missed a beat and the very easy to keep clean. Great buy at this price.
4 shots from this machine daily keep my life carry on
This or delonghi dinamica?
Not sure either. Dinamica is also on sale $200 more.
Some says dinamica milk is not hot.
Do I need this?
Can also brew tea, instant hot water
Yes
I bought this 2 years ago for $900+.
The coffee is actually okay, but quite a bit of maintenance involved.
Brew unit and its compartment is very difficult to clean. If you don’t clean often mould will grow easily.
Compared with Delonghi’s automatic, their brew unit has less moving part and much easier to clean.
The milk carafe is dishwasher safe and this was the only reason I chose it over Delonghi, but doesn’t last. My first carafe lasted about a year and become fractured causing leaks. Luckily replaced under warranty.
If you can be bothered to clean it weekly and hand wash the carafe, then it’s a good deal. Otherwise, think twice.
I would disagree. I clean the milk "carafe" by hand after use … just rinse the two parts … easy! My dishwasher runs only every two days … so this is anyhow too late for the cleaning as I have a coffee daily. I would not use the dishwasher for it - the rubber parts and plastic will not be great in the dishwasher (despite they say its dishwasher safe).
The brew unit is easy to remove and just needs to be rinsed as well. I do it every 2 weeks and never had an issue … takes a minute. Never had any mould …
Over 2000 coffees (there is a counter built in) and 2 years later I am still very happy with this machine.
Have been using this for past year, I would suggest it’s a mediocre coffee machine. And would recommend DeLonghi fully automatic models over this.
Which delonghi
Delonghi Magnifica Evo Titan. Does excellent job of frothing milk. Get yourself glass dual wall cups to appreciate how good coffee/milk/froth layers can look. I don't even drink the stuff, but love using the machine to make drinks for family/guests.
I've got this after having the Breville barista and it's not as good but I use it way more often especially working from home. Tired mornings or in between meetings this thing is awesome and I appreciate it way more. If you got time and not as busy go for something else but if you are time poor like me then this is 👌
this is a terrible machine compare to Delonghi,SMEG etc
Sorry bro, you lost all credibility when you mentioned Smeg
Lol
good coffee machine. IMHO, only issue is that it froths the milk too much.
Ive used a Delonghi for years and years, I would have thought this to be an upgrade not a side grade.
What is so bad about it?
And I thought I saw this last time for the $650 mark? something was…. ah it was Philips Series 2200
this or delonghi which is $200 more?

Thats a good price, you should post it
I bought this unit in June 2022 for $794.95. Considering the CPI, sounds like a good deal. Just a few points to take into account:
1- The machine prompts you to change the AuqaClean filter, roughly every 6 months. I buy the original ones for ~$60 which comes with 2 filters.
2- You won't get the most silky and smooth milk froth out of it. Actually, the froth looks a bit too bubbly and unpleasant on the top which doesn't bother me.
3- The on and off touch button sometimes plays up. It works after a couple of tries. That doesn't happen too often and it might be just my unit.
Otherwise all good experience and it's saved me heaps on my coffee expenses so far.
I have this machine
100% vouch for it
The price has dropped to historic low of $688.82
Time to claim price protection if you have recently purchased this.
I paid with my AMEX through PayPal, how would I go about claiming price protection?
Read the AMEX PDS to see if you have price protection for your card, and whether it is active when you used Paypal.
If you don't have price protection from your CC and you are really desperate, one can always buy at the new price and return the old one to Philips using their 90 day money back guarantee. You'll need to have kept the original packaging though.
I'm not sure about that. The problem with a fully automatic is there's more things to go wrong.
