Motorola Edge 30 Pro 5G 128GB (Cosmos Blue, Single Sim) $449 + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ JB Hi-Fi

150

Back down to $449.
Is it worth spending a bit more over the g84? I think so: https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=12526&idPhone…

Dual sim would have been great

    • Yeah, that seems to be the biggest gripe people have with this phone.

Biggest gripe would be Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 that drains the battery like crazy (if I'm not mistaken)

    • The S22+ has the same SoC and I had absolutely no problems with it. Not sure what people are doing with their phones.

      • sorry, lazy to google - there are plenty of articles on that topic.
        That's why i bought 30 Ultra - which has 8+ Gen 1

    • Haven't noticed battery life being bad, seems fine for me.

Biggest gripe with this phone is crappy reception. Rarely if ever passes half way on signal strength (with Voda anyway). I have the dual sim version so maybe this has some additional antennas where the other sim would sit lol.

It's amazing how much we take instant online device response for granted, only since I have this POS and sometimes wait for what feels like a minute for a song to load on Spotify, do I realise how good we have it these days.

I was warned in the comments about the reception and ignored the advice, now I'm stuck with a phone that performs like it has a built-in dial-up modem.

I think it is Vodafone, not the phone :)
I used it for 1 month, had exactly the same 50% signal all the time
Now with Boost - different picture

        • Yeah I am with Telstra and battery life is 6-7 hours Screen on time. Not bad at all tbh, pretty typical of an 8 Gen 1 phone. If you want 8 hours I don't think thats going to be possible with 8 Gen 1. Maybe with Apple phones it's possible, but not with an 8 Gen 1 and a 5000 mAh battery. Maybe ROG Phone can do it with the larger capacity battery.

    • The battery's not great. Nice phone to use though. Very clean, has a tonne of google apps preinstalled but very little "bloat". Some might say the google apps are bloat but most of the time, they're the ones I end up using by choice. If you're gonna sip the google koolaid, you may as well guzzle it.

  • Contemplating to upgrading to this or the Nothing Phone 2a. now using the old Edge 20 stuck in A13. Trialled the Edge30 pro before, good specs and performance eventhough single SIM

    • What about a Pixel 7a?

      • had 7 before … sold it … battery and FPR are biggest gripe

    • I have this and honestly it's a pretty good phone with decent camera, battery etc.

I'd say save the money and get this over the Nathing 2a. While the Nothing Phone is newer, you are getting a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 with this, the ISP is way better on the Snapdragon chipset so you will get better photos, plus I personally find Snapdragon's firmware idles better than Mediatek's, so less battery drain. But it also depends on the Phone vendor too, some are worse at power management despite having the same chip and battery size. Plus, the 8 Gen 1 is like a 60% faster chip, so if you do plan to game or do heavy multi-tasking it has the extra grunt to do it rather smoothly.

I'd say unless you really need Dual-Sim go for this, it's just the better phone objectively. Camera, performance and build quality are all better. Maybe Nothing 2a gets more updates and has slightly better battery life. Depends what you need.

    • Flash LineageOS on your Edge 20 and save some money

  • the good guys were flogging the dual sim version for about the same price a while back

  • How many years of updates left? 2022 phone. Edit: one year major left update, 2 years security

A bit off topic but has anyone with an Edge 30 Fusion recently started to suffer from extremely degraded battery life? I can only go about 6 hours from a full charge now, and that's with only low-moderate use.

    • try turning off any 'smart' battery settings like OPTIMIZED CHARGING so the ai doesn't interfere with phone charging???
It's desgined to not fully charge your phone (to 80% only) so your battery degrades slower

  • Bought this yesterday when it went on sale to replace my Huawei Mate 20 Pro. So far I have no problems, battery life seems fine to me plus it comes supplied with a 30W fast charger and cable (I believe the phone supports up to 68W wired).

I recommend you check out their "ready-for" feature - it's actually pretty cool. In addition to a wireless mobile desktop on your PC you can run apps windowed on your PC, very seamless after you install the program from motorola.com/ready-for (chrome didnt like the link for me, worked in firefox).

  • This phone or Google pixel 7a, still undecided which one to buy

    • For $100 more, the Pixel 7a is a no brainer.

    Definitely better than G84
