Inflation or are we getting swindled?

    $16.20 S&S in Dec 2022
    $18.90 S&S in Jun 2023

    • +3

Inflation is a euphemism for swindled.
      same price woolies

    • I had this on S&S previously, and was charged $46! This month around they wanted to charge me $35 for the S&S, I cancelled that order and created a new one using the exact same item to get the price on this deal, bizarre.
You have to check the S&S prices every month to make sure you're actually getting a proper deal :-\

      • +1

I cancel every single S&S and just hunt for a bargain when I need it for that same reason.

    • +1

Don't worry about getting swindled - worry about getting screwed.

I purchased this product twice during previous sales on Amazon (great for retaining purchase history) and have just noticed the product has broken down and looks like a murky brown grease.

Unliver told me the product has a recomended 3 yr life - I told them that's pretty useless information when it the product was already 18 mths old when I received it.

They have been good about wanting to replace the product, but still waiting for replacement product.

But the lesson here is, check the date of manufacture (if not scratched out) when you receive it.

This is why they have these aparent super cheap specials, to turnover stock of old product building up in their warehouse.

      • Will have to check this when I receive my bottles. At my current consumption 4L will last me about nearly a year.

        • Same with me, I just stock up when it's on special and only recently got around to opening this product.

  • Check out https://www.eucaonline.com.au/product/laundry-cleaners if you want an Aus made/owned laundry product, works out to be better value than the supermarket stuff with all the fillers I've found. Have been using the laundry powder and dishwashing powder the last year or so and its very powerful, you only need a bit

    • +4

      $45 for 5L. Doesn’t seem cheap at all…

      • +2

Ahh yes, but it's magical forumula is somehow better than the manufacturers who have been making laundry detergent for decades! Cos you know,.its powerful and they use fillers and stuff.

        • -4

Euca liquid ingredients: Coconut Di Ethanolamide, Eucalyptus Oil, Alkylbenzene Sulphonic Acid, Xylene Sulphonate, NL-8, Preservative, Water.

Omo sensitive ingredients: Water, C12-C15 Pareth-7, Sodium Dodecylbenzenesulfonate, Glycerin, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Propylene Glycol, Tea-Cocoate, Sodium Diethylenetriamine Pentamethylene Phosphonate, Disodium Distyrylbiphenyl Disulfonate, Styrene/Acrylates Copolymer, Benzisothiazolin-3-One.

I know knowledge can sometimes seem magical, but reading can help reveal stunning truths such as there are a huge range of possible chemicals to make a detergent. Hopefully I don't need to explain why water is in bold. With the dishwasher powder for example, I use 1/4 of the amount of the other shit I used and the plates come out sparkling. If I use more than that they come out a bit soapy, so idgaf about marketing claims, I know its concentrated because it acts like a very concentrated product. simple really

          • @steve bennett: I'm all for Aus made/owned etc but your sales pitch is way off. You certainly havent provided any "stunning truth" in your post. Especially when water does a decent job of cleaning certain things all by itself. Lol.

"Huge range of chemicals to make a detergent"

So which of those specific chemicals in what dose makes it "very powerful". Do you have a link to anyone who has conducted a comparison?

CHOICE for one example constantly has OMO as a leading laundry detergent brand. Sadly doesnt have Euca in their comparison list though. Show me your actual evidence its cheaper and better and i might believe you.

      • This one - 5L does "200 washes" (25ml p/wash) / 4L "160 washes" = 22.5c per wash

        This - 4L @ 50ml p/wash = "80 washes" = 25.3c per wash

        Euca online wins

EDIT - You can buy 20lt Euca which brings it down to 19c per wash

        • +1

This logic doesn’t work when using a self dosing washing machine, like most that use liquid. It doesn’t analyse the liquid for ‘Euca’ and portion a smaller amount of detergent…

          • +1

@miasommers: My self dosing machine has 3 levels and I currently use the highest with normal liquid detergents, given its only double concentrated I'm guessing (after consulting the manual) one of the lower levels would be fine.

          • @miasommers: Well you can set your dose to small med or lrg on my bosch

      • -2

It's far more concentrated than most brands, like I said

    • +1

      Good to know, thanks

    • +1

Thanks, I’m super interested. How does the dishwashing liquid perform?

    • Does the powder have a smell? I like non fragrant washing powders

  • -2

Always 19 dollars in ALDI for 4 same size home brand. Seems to wash my clothes ok

    • Home brand is not OMO. It's comparing a cheap low end washing machine liquid to a high end.

      • +2

Normal OMO like this isnt high end though, OMO Ultimate is actually high end and worth the extra money, this is just overpriced low end liquid.

      • +1

Choice disagrees with you [1]. Omo Sensitive (this deal) scored 66% (General detergency score 58%) while Aldi Trimat Advanced is 74% (General detergency score 75%).

        [1] https://www.choice.com.au/home-and-living/laundry-and-cleani…

    • No omo, but your clothes smell funny.

  • I appreciate the deal as it's the "sensitive" type of washing powder/liquid that I need to use (skin condition).

There is a brand Purity Sensitive which used to come in 4Lt conc. bottles -that's now disappeared. Heres the 2lt link: https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/88870/puri…
    ($7 per 2lt - $5.60 on special atm)
I had a look and most/all ingredients are the same as Earths Choice and for me it doesn't affect my skin.
    https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/783347/ear…
    $18.50 4Lt (Conc.)

These are made by the same brand Natures Organics.

Recently I have purchased the Aldi sensitive liquid which I haven't done a load in yet - we shall see what effects that has.
    https://www.aldi.com.au/groceries/laundry-household/laundry/…
    $9.99 per 2L

I can't comment on OMO sensitive as I haven't tried it but bang for buck it is an ok deal for a well known brand - no way would I buy it at full price.

Which one wins - I should do the maths and look and compare ml per regular wash vs cost but cbf!

I'd say the Earth's Choice 4lt wins (better if on special) and surprisingly the Aldi one isn't that great in value.

  • -2

I'm surprised you are able to lift a 4L bottle with one hand and hold the cap with the other. I tried but it would have been too heavy to comfortable lift the bottle and measure out the cap at the same time. 2L is the comfortable size for me.

    • +1

I held onto a 2L bottle from years ago and just pour from the 4L into the 2L so that it's easier to manoeuvre. Also takes up less space on my counter.

    • 4L more usable with self dosing since you don't have to hold another item, just fill up the tray in the machine.

    • Please understand I'm not trying to be rude here, but if you are able bodied and struggle lifting 4kg with one arm you need to start going to the gym to improve your strength. The negative effects of Sarcopenia start earlier than you think and are largely avoidable if you start now.

  • Any consensus between liquid vs powder?

    • +1

From Choice testing the top 7 for top loaders were all powders and the top 3 for front loaders were all powders, coming in 4th for front loaders was this Omo liquid. The 3 powders above it were all Omo too.

      • Actually 4th is Omo Ultimate Sensitive with 81%, this is the regular Omo at 66%.

        • So it is, good correction.

      • Yup powder outperforms liquid.

        You're paying for water.

  • Normally $24

  • Thanks OP. Bought the ultimate sensitive ($7.2/L) instead.

    https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B09TL3Q2JP

  • I do wonder if these sensitive detergents are really 'sensitive'

    Or is it just diluted?

e.g. 1 cap full of Omo sensitive vs 1/2 cap full of Omo Ultimate is the same.

Most people use way too much detergent in the wash and then complain the detergent is too strong/ clothes are itchy.

    • I always thought the "Sensitive" ones just didn't have perfumes/fragrances in them.

      • You could be correct.

Although there isn't universally standard what it is, some state free of 'perfumes, dyes and enzymes'

I think some problem people have with irritation is due to using too much detergent which doesn't get washed away.

Even the recommended one scoop per load is too much. Washing in cold water also makes the problem worse. I'd try half the recommended dosage and washing in warm water before trying these "Sensitive" ones.

The "Sensitive" ones are tested to be less effective.
