Foxtel have launched their new streaming box

Is it called the Hubbl Telly Scope ?

  • Reviews I've read aren't real good for Hubbl, maybe it's just misunderstood?

    • +1

I doubt it. Fox are panicking due to the changing tv landscape and this seems like a move out of desperation to me.

  • +4

you do have to purchase their streaming box

    Nah…

    Happy with my Nvidia Shield

    • -1

      It's only $99 dollarydoos.

      • -1

I can invest those $99 dollarydoos instead..

        • Invest in jvcoin?

        • What u investing in?

  • +19

Good old foxtel, overpriced as usual,

  • No mention of whether the box will do 4K… Yep, 4K

  • +18

(profanity) giving more money to Foxtel.

Remember it was these idiots that lobbied against the NBN because they were scared of streaming services taking away from Foxtel revenue.

    • -4

      Were they wrong ?

      • +2

They were right about streaming taking over. Hence why they should have pivoted to streaming themselves and thrown their support behind the nbn.

    Who upvoted this ?

    Yeah, nah.
You pay for the box that's probably chock full of ads/spam from Murdoch and Co.
A big fat pass from me!

    • probably chock full of ads/spam from Murdoch

I doubt he's even heard about this.

    https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/thread/35r5yx19?p=1045#r2088…

"Why can't I use some features on Hubbl that I can use on other devices?
The below features are not supported on Hubbl devices:

    SplitView
    Key Moments
    No Spoilers
    Interactive Stats
    Odds on Kayo
    Fixtures
the ability to create profiles (including selecting favourites)
    a Kayo Continue Watching carousel
    a Kayo search bar
However, Hubbl has a universal Continue Watching carousel and search feature accessible from the home screen, which combines content from all your available apps in one view."

It's been confirmed that the box can only run in 60hz. Australian content is in 50 hz!!

Talk about being stillborn. Just another steaming pile of crap from foxtel.

    • It's been confirmed that the box can only run in 60hz. Australian content is in 50 hz!!

It does actually have a "Judder reduction" setting, that enables auto frame rate matching (but is limited to 50 and 60Hz), so FTA / Kayo / Binge are 50Hz, and apps like Disney and Prime etc switch to 60Hz.

Seems like a good deal until you realise the only apps you can stack are newscorp with the exception of netflix. To be honest you are better off with fotel now complete pack including sports and movies for $49. Will save $99 on the device and be paying just as much if not less for the same content.

    • +1

Yeah that current $49 Foxtel Now deal is not bad, especially for those like me who mainly watch sport via catchup, and want to watch on two screens at once:

      • Any 4K on Foxtel now yet?

    • +1

Foxtel Now is surely on its last legs, right? What is the discernible difference between it and the Foxtel iQ5 set-up if they're both streaming-based platforms now? Is it simply hardware?

    Does turkey offer hubbl? 😏

  • Foxtel hate aside, if you have 3+ subscriptions, you have the potential to save money and can use them outside of this box. Stan and Paramount+ are coming soon.

One kinda cool thing about the box is that once you log into all the free streaming apps, it combines all of the TV channel streams to have a FTA/EPG like experience. Good if you don't have an antenna. I suspect it might also add the Foxtel channels from the Binge app into the mix.

  • You can migrate other subs so perhaps if u had prepaid Netflix or Disney plus you could then migrate over to hub I without paying for them but reap the mass discount

  • Is this saying the Stack and Save discounts only last for 36 months? In the fine print — (“Expires 36 months from date of issue”). If so, after that what happens? Can you cancel services and resubscribe to get the discount again? Or is it a one time offer per customer?

    • Not sure, we might have to wait 36 months to find out.

  • Just cause Foxtel hands out some candy to get in their van, doesn't mean we should take it. Remember the old days! Don't let history repeat with overly restrictive plans, paying for ads and outdated\locked down tech.

  • Give money to that greedy old urchin Murdoch? No thanks.

    • It's even worse than that. You're not just giving money to them to buy the box, you're also allowing this spyware box to send back all of your viewing data and other telemetry so they can sell it.

  • What are the free Kayo and Binge offers with the puck purchase ?

  • Does anybody know if you can just pay for the subscriptions through Hubbl for the dollar savings and then watch the shows via another device like Chromecast? I'd rather not use Hubbl itself…

    • I'd assume so. You can get NF cheaper buying it in another currency.

      • Not anymore. They recently started cracking down. Last few posts in geopricing for NF have the newest comments saying their accounts were shut down without warning. Happened to me too.

People already on it before the crackdown though seem to be fine, for now.

  • I have not logged into kayo for a couple months. Now it has changed it's interface and coming up with Hubbl. I had vouchers applied to my account and have free service till Novermber 2024 but I can no longer see these when I log in. How do you see the vouchers you have applied and when the subscription ends?

    • Streamotion (who owns Kayo) is Hubbl.

  • Keep an eye out on your emails from Foxtel now. The wife and I both received a free Hubbl stream device. (Ex Foxtel Now customers)
