I'm not familiar with watches, am I asking too much, I assume there are some watches you can insert a sim card and turn it into a mini phone, please educate me (seriously at least I know what to ask and expect)
No, I am just surprised people want to actually take calls on their watches.
Why? I don't have a SIM in mine but I will take a call with my watch if my phone is still in my bag.
@jv: I’ve waited most of my life for my Dick Tracey watch and dammit I’m going to use it.
Easier than taking your shoe off all the time….
Not SIM card, but eSIM.
Is this for your kids? Normally a phone meets those requirements, so you want a phone replacement?
Wearing watch without phone means using internal GPS and LTE, which means daily recharge at least.
Or do you just need it to work occasionally without the phone, like going for a jog or to the beach?
what phone
android
galaxy? pixel? huawei? oppo? motorola? nokia? xiaomi? alcatel? lg?
some watches play nice with some models, some don't.
what's your budget?

I've had a Samsung Galaxy Watch active 2 LTE, and now a Galaxy Watch 6 LTE. been pretty happy. Replaced the Watch Active 2 not too long ago as it finally became too sluggish for my taste after 4 years of use.
Watch 6:
1. What's the application? Standalone GPS tracking for my runs is quite good.
But I've not seen/used any standalone Garmin-type Map apps — is that what you're referring to?
2. Tick. Also deliveres notifications from most of the other apps on your phone via LTE. You can "quick respond" to Facebook messages etc.
WhatsApp now has a native app that you use without your phone.
3. It's IP68 and 5ATM. might wanna check how long you can use it underwater for. I wear it to the pool/jacuzzi every so often.
4. It has lasted almost 2 days for me, I charge it every day when I shower and that's enough to usually bring it to 100%
I use a Google Pixel 7 Pro
Garmin Venu 2 Plus?
Only Garmin can tick the battery life box (IMHO) along with the other features.
Meets all 4 criteria. To be fair OP never mentioned it needs to be on their wrist.
Why so fancy?
Apple Watch. Years ago Apple showed in the keynote someone surfing with it in a lake, so swimming must be fun. They have a lap counter too iirc. The Ultra is basically a dive computer.
But battery life is shite
TicWatch Pro 3 LTE version.
If answering call isn't that important, then TicWatch Pro 5 (no LTE)
Telling you the time is not in your requirements.
Telling you the time is not in your requirements.
That's what their phone is for…
The watch is needed to make calls…
Makes sense now,
Thanks.
I like the Kmart watches.
yeah its for the kid, she can't bring a phone to the school so we need a substitute that performs like a minimal mobile phone plus she swims a lot hence all the requirements
wow
