    Hi OP,

Title says 4P, body says 6P, link confirms 4P.

    Please fix :)

        This guy camps.

        • 40 years shit showing my age

yea you might fit 1 small kid

my SIL has one from a previous deal, you wont fit a queen double and single air mattress! sure they are quciker and easier to put up but just keep in mind it comes at the cost of weight. Not so much of a problem if you can park near your site but telescopic legs with linkages vs poles it is notably heavier and a touch bulkier when stored

There is also a bit of tension on it when folded up and has put small holes in the base at every point of contact, (4 corners and middle) so hers needs repair patches if it storms. We take HD reinforced tape with us so that would seal it up as a temp solution for a few days

Apart from that its ok, she gloats when we have to put up a 9p tent she is pretty much done in less then 5 mins but she hasnt seen out 2p instant up which literally unrolls and pops up itself, then just peg it down

        • Are you saying the queen air mattress they're also selling won't fit inside that tent? What would you recommend for just 1 adult and child?

          • @fadaada: queen fits easy but not much room for anything else. going by eye it wont fit a queen and a single all that comfortably.

But to be sure I would get the measurements and compare sizes to work out exactly what fits and how much room you want to store other stuff, esky etc

The fridge freezer looks very much like a Kings 75L fridge that is currently $379 (albeit with a lesser warranty and it seems no cover).

    (I've been researching fridges lately)

    • Ryobi @449$? How does it compare?

      • It's 1/3 the size of this one.

    • +1

The Jaycar Brass Monkey fridges are the best bang for buck. Had mine 4 years now.

      • Really? They have a really bad rep for reliability

        • People talk a lot of crap online.

They also have the best warranty by several years so even if it was rubbish you can just return it.

Any thoughts on the solar blanket?

    • Yes please I need a portable solution to my battery box

    • It looks like good value. I would much rather it over something from Kings.

    • Cheaper options on eBay but at least if you don't get the stated output is easy to return.

    • +1

MPPT charger which is good. Also on sale at BigW for the same price. Although I'd probably consider the 160w version. Whiles it lower output, the style is easier to prop up to maximise its angle with the sun.

This is interesting too. Not much spec though

At 400Wh that puts the battery around 30Ah for a 12V equivalent.
I guess it has its uses but you're paying a lot for a little battery.

For the same money you should be able to get a 100Ah with a battery box and a 600W sine inverter.

      • about the same capacity and specs as the kickass one except this is pure sine wave if its to be trusted. be ok for cpap if true. dont think you can get LiFePO4 100 Ah for that with sine inverter?

        • I have one of these inverters which has been working well.
Battery box for $50. Couple it with a cheap battery from Outbax when on sale (I picked up one of these when they were even lower)

Of course you're not getting it all in a nice little package. These power stations are ok for a day trip I think, but if you are camping for a few days need something bigger.

          • @bamzero: So the whole setup would be Lithium battery + battery box + inverters + DCDC charger ?

Compare to say an all-in-one portable battery station.

Still can't decide which is a better approach for someone who goes camping once or twice a year.

            • @vash12: Haven't factored in the cost of DC-DC or solar charging. I assume this station will allow you to plug in 12V and charge albeit slowly, so running your car to charge wouldn't really be an option anyway.

That's me camping once or twice a year. Usually in shaded areas so solar charging is not very effective. A 30A battery wouldn't last me very long, a day maybe two at best. 100Ah can see me through the whole trip without charging. Personally I don't need the inverter much while camping anyway but everything else is in the battery box, solar charge ready. (couple of pics from an old post)

I've since gotten this cheap modified sine inverter which I usually use instead of my sine one now since it's nice and compact and most of the time I only need to run my Ozito battery charger.

      • Agree. Would be an ok unit if it werent for the low amp hours. Nice to see 1xusb-c @60w meaning it can run likely run 1 x laptop.

IMHO, should be 50ah becuase 30ah is suitable for far fewer scenarios and the size/weight would be negligible

I recently picked up the Gentrax 100ah Lithium batttery from this deal, as well as the Kings 200w solar blanket I got the blanket for $149 (which it is pretty regularly discounted to), however it doesn't come with the solar controller (which I picked up on amazon for $36). After running some tests on both, I'm very happy with the results. The battery is able to draw 95ah while still holding 12.5 volts, and the blanket is able to get 180-190 watts in perfect conditions. The battery may not have the same lifetime as the prismatic cells from the Voltx, but for around half the price I'm pretty happy.

    • What's constant current draw?

      • I didn't really test that, I only plan on using it for the camping fridge & lighting, so I had it running around 2-3amps on average (6-7 when the fridge compressor would turn on). The stats say it can continous discharge at 100 amps though?

  • 73L fridge. That’s bigger than the one in my kitchen

    • +7

What is it? A fridge for ants?

  • Thoughts on the tent?

    • It's intents

    • It is a good tent, easy to put up, roomy and lots of mesh for airflow, Fly only has four bits of Velcro and base clips so not sure how it would go in high winds. I am camping with it as we speak and use it regularly for overnights when MTBing

    • I have the 6p blackout tent and very happy with it - for the money spent.

  • The only good thing are the tent pegs. Buy ALL the tent pegs!!! They're extremely good value, don't rust and you'd pay $2+ a peg elsewhere.

    • +1

I've gone for the screw in tent pegs now. Drive them in with a cordless drill - they will go into the hardest ground.

Not the cheapest option but so much easier.

  • The lighting kit (the flip up one on a pole) is a great bit of kit. Had one for a year or two now, pumps out heaps of light, can be moved around, very versatile.

    • Guess it would be too much to ask of Aldi to include the lumens in the description…
From the blocky enlarged carry bag photo I can see what might be 2400 lumens, that sound about right?

What do you use for it's power source?

      • +1

that's correct, it's pretty much the same as this one, apart from wireless remote, https://www.snowys.com.au/led-area-light-kit but half the price. It was handy on a recent long trip away as a light to put over the dinner table. It has a pretty long cord so you can move it around easily, stab the holder into the ground and away you go. Has various brighness settings and colours (yellow, orange, white).

        • +1

Thanks. Gotta hand it to Snowys, their product videos are thorough! :D

I've been hanging my Ozito cordless worklight from a tree when we go camping but might take a look at this one too.
I recently got one of these when it $16. Don't know if I believe the 3500L claim but it is still damn bright. Haven't taken it camping yet though.

    • Tried one out, pretty impressed. Just wish it started on natural colour mode (all LEDs' on) instead of warm white then wouldn't have to touch the control at all on start up but at least it remembers the setting until power is disconnected. That and if they had made the mount just a little longer so the panel would fold down properly flat while attached to the pole.

Surprised there is no heatsinking of the LED panel, not really needed I suppose.

  • What is the RRP of the tent?

    • +1

Its not a brand you can buy elsewhere, but kmart has a similarish one for $20 cheaper.
Aldi doesn't market things as discounted from RRP like other stores.

  • Bought the tent. Hopefully it's good. Not too pricey for a rookie
