18 Nights Sydney to Honolulu Cruise on Celebrity Edge, 2 Persons (Depart 14 Apr): Interior $3,036, Ocean View $3,338 @ Celebrity

110

One way trip so you will need to sort out flights back. Might be cheaper to book a return flight (Hawaii to Sydney, Sydney to Hawaii) and skip Sydney to Hawaii flight.

A pretty good deal IMO. I have been keeping an eye on this cruise for a few months. Works out to be $84.33 per person per night. That's unlimited food, accommodation, travel, entertainment. Won't beat that value living in Sydney. Food and service a bit better than Royal Caribbean cruise line.

Has many sea days. But might suit someone that really wants to relax and unwind. Unpack once, don't cook or clean. All done for you. No phone reception (unless you buy internet pack) which can be a bonus if you want to disconnect from work and social media.

Might be cheaper to book a return flight (Hawaii to Sydney, Sydney to Hawaii) and skip Sydney to Hawaii flight.

I always thought that if you skip a leg, the whole flight voids

    • +1

Yes, but you are skipping the second leg here, so it doesn't really matter.

I guess if you book Hawaii to Sydney RTN, then yes

        • That is what the OP said and you quoted? And that is what makes sense, since this is for a one-way cruise from Sydney to Hawaii.

  • I think the similar RC repositioning cruise was about $2400 for 2px/twin share for an interior. Is the Edge 25% better?

    • Newer ship

    • +1

Easily! And far fewer kids and prams at the buffet.

  • is there wifi? can i work remotely on a boat full time for less than the cost of living in a capital city

    • +2

Yes but it costs extra. I am not sure on connection quality especially out at sea

    • Basic wifi is included and fast wifi for streaming is additional around $20 per person per day. I'm assuming it will be slow for basic web and text.

      • Basic wifi is enough to check ozbargain a few times many a day

  • I have been keeping an eye on this cruise for a few months.

Did the price go down during few months or just stays at this level?

Prices I observed for interior cabin (no window) per person:
      27/10/2023 - $2,552
      31/10/2023 - $2,552
      14/11/2023 - $2,673
      19/11/2023 - $2,561
      21/11/2023 - $2,807
      24/11/2023 - $2,744
      5/12/2023 - $2,744
      7/12/2023 - $2,989
      10/12/2023 - $2,914
      13/12/2023 - $2,914
      17/12/2023 - $2,914
      20/12/2023 - $2,989
      30/12/2023 - $2,914
      8/1/2024 - $2,914
      12/1/2024 - $2,989
      28/1/2024 - $2,902
      30/1/2024 - $2,702
      14/2/2024 - $2,050
      3/3/2024 - $2,065
      5/3/2024 - $1,518

Today is the lowest price for Interior and Ocean View that I have seen since October 2023. Might go lower if there are empty cabins.

Are you manually monitoring this or is there a tool?

Cruise Sheet has a historical price tracker.

          • @donga100:

Cruise Sheet has a historical price tracker.

Is it that tiny low resolution graph?
            I can't find any easy-to-read table there.

            • +1

@SickDmith: Yes, it's normally much easier to see but the suite was briefly being sold for $32,912 so it's thrown the graph off.

  • Have a look around. We booked similar a few years back, and found the same price except it included an unlimited drinks package.

A bit of a $hit show as Celebrity changed the conditions 2hrs after the cruise left the dock (went from an unlimited…to limited to drinks under $14). Basically base level beers, an spirits ok. Very select/ basic cocktails were included.

Didn't really matter in the end. But poor form from Celebrity to do so only after the boat moved off the dock (but apparently it's in their right to do so in the T&Cs), and they only notified us by putting a flyer on our door. We were at the bar during sail away, and the bar couldn't work out why the drink processing started failing. Front desk had no idea either. Only returning to our cabin it all made sense.

So just a 'keep an eye on things' with this mob…

Celebrity have never had an unlimited $ drinks package, ever since they were introduced. They do have unlimited drinks packages, which means that you can have as many as you want. This is because they have some high end drinks e.g. $500+ a bottle, so obviously if all drinks were included it would be cheaper to buy the package then to buy the drink on its own, which would make no sense. BTW, the $14 is in USD, so covers most types of alcohol, though as you say the entry level ones rather than high end/top shelf.

There may have been some miscommunication, but if you just saw "unlimited" that refers to number of drinks, not the $ value of the drink, which has always had a limit.

With the market the way it is, I doubt there's much likelihood now of getting that price including a drinks package. Of course, you never know, but if you hold off just for that, you'll find accommodation and airfares will have increased more. So even if it was to happen, you're unlikely better off overall (and I very much doubt it will happen).

I believe they called it a Premium drinks package. We got relegated back to a standard package.
It was a bit weird as, for example, Corona was included when we boarded. 2 hrs later, it was no longer an option (as it was a "premium" beer). They offered to "upgrade us" back to the Premium (that is printed on our ticket) for $30 a day. Just a d1ck move really.

        • Ok - Premium package also has a $ limit, but it's a higher limit ($US19) than the Classic package you were on. Premium is included with Suites, whereas Classic was included with most other cabin grades (now it's an option).

Still sounds like miscommunication somewhere as I've never heard anyone downgraded like that before (and if they were, there would be outrage). It isn't part of the T&Cs to do that i.e. if you get Premium, you'll get Prem onboard, and same for Classic. But yes, if you have Classic you can upgrade, at extra cost. So the flyers about upgrading are something everyone gets. And if you booked an Inside or Oceanview as per this deal, it would not have had Premium drink package included, as that was only included with Suites.

@odysseus: No miscommunication mate…and yes there was outrage!
The ship left Sydney going to Vancouver via Hawaii.
We were only on the second leg. However, people who did the full itinerary were angry as cut snakes, as their package changed mid cruise. FWIW the bar staff put some drinks through anyway, as they thought it was a d1ck move.
We've cruised quite a bit. Celebrity didn't offer anything special, and this behavior only hurts their brand.

  • who are the celebrities?

  • If you have reward points it might be worth looking at using them for the return journey.

    • Good in theory, but only a month out, and from Hawaii, very unlikely to be anything available now.

      • Worth a look, particularly in economy.

  • Anyone know how much each are the shore excursions items? Is it better we book activities/excursions seperately during the port stops?

I can't find exact breakdown of free vs. paid benefits and inclusions and their costs other than restaurants and some boat activities.

Also once reached Hawaii is there a mandarin speaking packged tour 7 or 10 days long including accomodation and travel that can be recommended?

    • Shore excursions are usually extra and not included with cruise fare. There are discounts if you book before the cruise. Booking excursions through cruise company can be more expensive than if you do it yourself on the day, but then it's less hassle and you get a guaranteed spot. Look up videos on YouTube. Lots of them show what is included with a cruise fare.

      • If you choose an excursion with an external provider and come back late, the ship will not wait for you. You will be responsible for all costs to rejoin the ship at its next port.

If you miss the ship departure time while on an excursion booked through the ship, they will cover all costs for you to rejoin the ship, or they wait around a little longer for your excursion group.
