Tourism has been down significantly since the closure, people are not interested in gimmicks like riding segway scooters around the outside of the rock.
Unfortunately, they lost a huge customer based of cashed up tourists from Japan and other asian countries who came just to climb the rock.
As a person who lives in Darwin, please look at Darwin news before wanting to come here, we're currently crime central. Just my 2 cents. And yeah, without Uluru climb, all you have is camping and fishing in the dry season.

I was in NT for 11yrs. The mud racing was a favourite, Supercars was awesome and even better when they had drags to go with it, fish feeding!! we had a blast and went twice a year, Katherine hot springs I did weekly and the two below there every few months. Bitter springs was our fave. The rock we never wanted to see or go to or climb.. Fishing charters out of Dundee were always amazing.
