Cebu MEL/SYD One Way to: Manila from $181 ($311 Return), Hong Kong from $223, Tokyo $315 and More [Aug-Oct] @ Beat That Flight

732

Probably gotta act fast on this one, Cebu has great sales, but very often not many at each price. I actually switched to showing one way because some of the return tickets had changed price in the time i searched again.

However, some examples valid at time of posting below. You can see that sometimes, two one way tickets are cheaper than a return

Sydney to Hong Kong - $517 return
Melbourne to Hong Kong: - $476 return
Melbourne to Manila: - $311 return
Sydney to Manila: - $340 return
Sydney to Tokyo: -$671 return
Melbourne to Tokyo: - $616 return

Summary:
Sydney - Hong Kong (1 Aug - 31 Oct) from $234
Melbourne - Hong Kong (1 Aug - 31 Oct) from $223
Sydney - Manila (1 Aug - 31 Oct) from $191
Melbourne - Manila (1 Aug - 31 Oct) from $181
Sydney - Tokyo (1 Aug - 31 Oct) from $416
Melbourne - Tokyo (1 Aug - 31 Oct) from $315

Good deal! FWIW I once got a $140 return ticket Sydney to Manila. The Uber to the airport cost me more than the flight to Manila.

    • +7

Like any civilised, first world airport, why didn’t you just take the tra——- ohhhhh

    • +1

CebPac pre-pandemic deals were great! I once paid $400 for Manila to Sydney (one-way) for 4 persons during the Christmas peak.

    • +1

      Same. I think $144 return in 2015.

      • That’s the one!

  • +28

FYI: Do not transit in Manilla, it will genuinely be your worst experience ever. Lack of information, small, hot and crowded terminals, long lines, lack of transportation within terminals.

If you are transiting from Melbourne -> Manila -> Hong Kong, you will need to fully clear immigration and customs and go to a shitty transfer bus that runs every 30mins and start the whole process again.

I have had attempts of extortion by security and immigration personnel, its just a shitshow

    • +8

Philippines just no, use to be a good destination like Thailand, now just don't go there even transit.

      • What things changed in your opinion?

    • +1

Doesn't help they have one runway open at any time and therefore frequent delays and cancelled flights. And since manila is PAL's home airport, Cebu usually gets kicked down the priority list.

    • Way better to use Grab to a Red Planet, stay the night, and catch a Grab back to the airport.

Aseana City red planet has a good ‘up market’ Ramon place next to it.

      • Ramon

Weren't the Ramons regulars at Club Dredd back in the day?

    • +4

The worst part is the corrupt FREE transfer bus driver will ask you for a fee :)
      3rd world corruption tings

    • +3

Oh..I did that 40 years ago when I was a poor student. Same experience at that time. So the situation continues for so many years :(

    • +5

I got escorted by two armed guards through security /passport control to identify my bag, then ushured back through passport control to my seat in transit. I've always debated if I got to count this as having entered the country ;)

      • No stamp, no entry.

Regardless I have never considered you have entered a country, ie can tick it off as visited, if you don't leave the airport, even if you have gone through Customs.

    • +3

Given that all Cebu Pacific Air flights arrive and depart from Terminal 3, I don't know why you would of been directed to take a bus.

    • +2

Similar experience here. They take your passport off you which I'm sure is illegal. No food or water, kept waiting for 3 hours with kids, then transit shop only accepted local cash. They then bring up your checked luggage to the gate, open it up in front of everyone and pretend to search it. Never transit there, I don't care how cheap.

      • Never had my passport taken off me, that does seem a little worrying. But if you had a 3 hour wait for your flight connection, why not just exchange a small amount of money to the currency exchanger? Like a lot of 3rd world countries cash is king, but I'm sure one of cafes/restaurants would've accepted card.

Never had my checked luggage searched at the gate, but I know on flights to Australia they search your carry on again even though you've already cleared security. I asked them one time and they claimed it was an "Australian government requirement"…

        • There was no currency exchange there, no atm, nothing
We were all penned into a room while they sat on our passports

          • @Kanjus: How long ago was this? Are you talking about terminal 3? Was it cebu pacific staff that did this to you or security/ border staff?

        • Yes they searched me again in Vietnam too where they had a proper sign about how it's an Australian government requirement that you can't take liquids (over 100mL of course) on board.

          • +2

@electioncliff: Yeah this is common in ports with a final destination into Australia (or USA), eg LAX, SFO, YVR, DOH, AUH, DXB, HKG, KUL, SIN. Can't remember if HNL had it, I think so.

    • +1

Never again. Both Manila & Cebu airports, worse experience ever.

  • +3

Always book direct with the Airline.

  • +4

I booked via this site a few years ago , it was for syd sing on sing air then sing to davao via scoot. When we arrived in davao they cancelled our flight from davao to sing, when we spent 5 hours on the phone they said we have to pay 50 usd for them to talk to the airline. Then they started hanging up on us. I would wait 5 hours to get through to an indian, who would make me jump through all the hoops and then simply hang up.

Hours on hold to singapore airlines and they refused to help. In the end we had to buy new flights home, and the flight network said we were a no show in singapore (how the (profanity) would we get to singapore from davao)

Travel insurance denied the flights, stating that the airline was responsible and the flight network simply ignored us, im guessing because they know we are (profanity)

    • +1

That sucks that happened, but note that you can't book through beatthatflight, as it's a search engine, and that Flightnetwork is just one of the OTAs indexed, just in case that's not clear. I've had good experiences with almost all the ones I've used, except one that was during covid (and I still in theory have credit with them). Most of their customer service is not great tho, definitely not where they put their money :/

    • +6

Reading experiences like that make me pay the extra to deal with reputable airlines. Only needs one bad experience to wipe out your entire savings you had along the years.

Not to mention some airlines are much more difficult to deal with that others.

      • +2

The first problem is booking through a cheap OTA, even with reputable airlines you're going to have problems as they generally palm you off to the OTA and these cheap OTAs have no customer support. The second problem is a budget airline. Always book direct and book full service airlines if they're not much more (which they often aren't once you add luggage). Booking direct means you get proper support as well as not being hit with random fees when something goes wrong. Full service airlines usually can put you on other airlines to get to your destination if there is a cancellation, the larger the airline the better in this regard.

    • +1

Yeah similar experience when I booked with @beatthatflight for Bamboo Airways flight (Now bankruptcy and only fly domestic within Vietnam). They reschedule my flight, then Bamboo contacted me telling me That I haven't paid for my trip?? Then I spoke to someone from the agency, they told us they had paid the carrier (Previously flight confirmed, 4 flights in total and we made one flight, obviously the airlines ticketing system faults. The customer services was not great, but I messaged the carrier directly and they were happy to help).

And yes, nothing to do with @beatthatflight. They just put out the cheapest flight and we just suck up if the agency shit

  • I've flown Cebu Pacific a few times, around 2015 - 2017,
and I had no issues with them, nor Manila Airport.

I just took in stride, that it's a budget airline
and Manila Airport just felt like one big bus terminal,
unless things are much different post-Covid.

    • +1

      around 2015 - 2017

Long time ago, not the same.

  • Is Cebu Air service similar to JetStar?

    • +1

Similar, but crampier seats. Less international cancellations though.

    • The product is a little bit worse than Jetstar long-haul on the 787 but nowhere as bad as Scoot - the main issue people have flying with CebPac is the transit at Manila's Ninoy Aquino International, which leaves a lot to be desired (albeit CebPac, both domestic and international, flies through T3 which is no doubt the better of the terminals - serves international legacy airlines like Qantas and United). The seats on their A330 though are not ideal - think lightly cushioned church pew - but at those flight prices, you can buy a seat cushion from Amazon and still be much better off. My best comparison to CebPac's product is Jetstar domestic (like no IFE, no power at seats, etc) but you're in the air for longer

      • I'm 6'2 and survive the seats fine. They have USB outlets at all seats now.

  • +4

Did anyone else think the thumbnail was a Pterodactylus with curly blond hair?

    • Yes, I did too. Took me about 20 minutes of staring at it to finally realise it was a lady in a hammock.

    • LOL I just assumed that it was a prehistoric Jetstar plane

  • My wife went recently she was very happy with plane and service they provided.

Beat that flight is complicit with scam companies and they will shrug it off as "well we dont do anything we just refer customers" as said above.

You can see what your experience will be like if you follow any of beatthatflights deals. You will be extremely SORRY.
