  • This stuff is good and one of the cheaper places, recommend to grab some.

    • 4 hunters is still much cheaper at $55/kg, albeit more sodium.

Another difference is that Biltong.com.au's biltong does not contain preservatives.
It's also made fresh and harvested and packaged directly for your order; it does not get pre-packaged and sit on the shelves for several weeks (hence, no preservatives)

        • Mmmyeah, but peeps add preservatives to their products for an obvious reason. I assume that because your product contains no preservatives, it would need to be consumed within a very short time after opening the pack, right?

Also, 'preservatives' are not by definition unhealthy to eat … this is just a common misconception flung around by hippies/pinkos/air-heads; and some companies attempting to prey on people's ignorance.

It's a bit like the misconception that all 'natural' ingredients are healthy. Many companies write 'ALL NATURAL INGREDIENTS' on their packaging. Cyanide is 'natural', and so is arsenic. These are both deadly poisons.

        • Another difference is that Biltong.com.au's biltong does not contain preservatives.

          Isn't salt a preservative?

I love you biltong by the way

@OzBragain: I agree that there is a semantic issue with the word 'preservative'.
Our product's method of preservation is dehydration. In this context, our product is 'preservative-free'; the salt in this context is not used for preservation, although it may contribute to preservation.
However, where a manufacturer adds something like potassium sorbate, or sodium nitrate, or nitrites, then there can be no confusion, these ingredients are specifically used as preservatives. These tend to affect the taste of the product, although to be fair, it is often necessary to use such preservatives for retail biltong that is sitting on the shelf for many weeks and months. They do tend to create an aftertaste in the product.
Our product does not contain any such ingredients.
So my point has been that to compare the price of so-called "super-market biltong/jerky", with preservatives, that gets packaged and sits on the shelves for several weeks/months, with our product, which is preservative-free, and is freshly harvested and posted to you, is not a fair comparison.

  • Used to be my go-to and wouldn’t even look at a competitor, but since they stopped the chilli stokkies and didn’t bother responding to a customer service email, they lost me

    • Hi thefluffyduff. Very sorry that your email slipped through the cracks, that is something we are working on and truly hope we havent lost you for good,
It hurts us whenever we let our customers down, and we aim to do better.

Regarding chilli stokkies, unfortunately do not currently sell plain chilli stokkies/snapstick online (but chilli-garlic stokkies we still do sell online)
But we still sell plain chilli stokkies at our weekly market stalls, as well as our physical store in Brookvale NSW.

Alternatively have you tried our newer products: Beef Jerky - Chilli Flakes Flavour, or Wagyu Beef Jerky - Chilli Chutney, both of which are online and applicable to this discount EVERYTHING15.

If you are in the are in the Sydney area, we trade at the following markets every week: Chatswood Corso market on Thur and Fri,
Manly Markets 2095 on Sat and Sun, Hornsby organic food markets on Thur, Kings Cross organic food market on Sat.

  • any discount on the other south african shop? I would love some tennis bikkies and some bobotie spice mix

  • What's the preferable way to enjoy biltong? Unsure what to pick for between moist / dry / wet for the Chilli Garlic and Classic biltong.

    • I buy moist, classic, uncut and store it in the freezer. Take a chunk from the freezer when required and cut it thin.

  • Put my order in, thanks again :)

  • 450g,950g…. Shrinkflation? Why not standard half kilo and kilo? Just wondering

    • +1

Australia Post charges postage based on various tiers of weight, e.g. 500g, 1kg, 2kg, 3kg.
Unfortunately they are very strict. A parcel weighing 502g is charged as 1kg. a Parcel weighing 1.005kg is charged as 2kg.

When you add the weight of the plastic pouch used to vacuum-pack the biltong, and then the weight of the packaging materials used to ship the product, and the shipping label, plus anything extra such as an invoice or business card, then the weight will exceed the tier of weight.

We use express post, which is very expensive. Although we charged $7.99 for Express shipping, the true cost is about $15.00+ per order.
As postage costs have skyrocketed and are a major threat to ecommerce ventures such as ours, it has become more and more important to ensure that we do not pay any more than necessary for postage costs.

  • What is the shelf life of your jerky?

  • Been tempted to try for a long time, finally pulled the trigger now - chili chutney, garlic chilli and the pet treats so I don't end up in the doghouse…

  • Any more coupons?
