Motorola G62 5G 4/128GB (RRP $399) + Prepaid 28-Day 30GB Plan: $229 (Public Offer), $109 (Targetted Offer) Delivered @ amaysim

90

Not sure how this compared with the G54 (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/833674). It looks like this G62 has better cameras, speakers, while having less RAM than the G54 (4GB vs 8GB)
Price is half of RRP, free delivery.

I got a voucher from Amaysim to bring it down to $79, plus the minium $30 prepaid plan, so I paid $109 for the phone and SIM. I also got tracked $10.5 cashback from CashReward.

The G54 is the better phone. It is 2 generations newer; faster CPU; more RAM; better camera (OIS); newer BT - but at $109, the G62 is a steal.

    • Thanks. I didn't realise that this G62 is 2022, while G54 is 2023.
Is MediaTek chip is still an issue these days?

Averell, the 3G network is shutting down

I got this email from them. I'm their active customer, with 1 PAYG plan. Here are the prices of 4 phones included in that email. Will need to add a $30 plan (it's prepaid, so I will cancel before 28 days)

      S24: $1099
      G62: $79
      Optus X Pro 64GB: free
      Optus X Lite 4G 128MB: free

      • '$109 (Targetted Offer)': UN-likely that many readers can access this deal…marketing by Amaysim?

'$229 (Public Offer)': may be wait for G54-sales, $200 to $250 ? Imo, G62 is worth $175 to $225: review the link-below & make your own judgement.

Read widely & make sure G62 has features that are a 'must-have' to you & the negative that you can live-with.

Ideally, visit a store & play with each demo-phone yourself.

It's most likely that G62 can CALL @ 4G: expand 'view all specifications' & note the '4G: LTE band'-> https://www.motorola.com.au/smartphones-moto-g54-5g/p

  • Also received this promotion today. You do need to be an existing Amaysim customer with a plan that is about to expire. I'm on the $120 1YR plan that's about to expire in 3 weeks, auto renewal turned off

    • Do you know if we can use the existing Annual Plan renewal to take this option of the new phone? If we renew existing $120 plan, will it start rightaway or after expiry of the current plan?
Also, can this be stacked with the ~15% off renewal offer that we get if Auto-renewal is turned off?

As a side note, how much discount did you get for renewal of existing $120 plan?

      • I quote from the promotional email:

As our valued customer, we are offering you a further discount on selected Androids when you early renew an eligible SIM plan with amaysim. These discounts are deeper than our current advertised offers, and they are just for you! Savings are off RRP and not available in conjunction with any other offer. This offer is personal to you and replaces any other in-market offer currently advertised. One discount code per customer and offer ends 3 March 2024, unless extended or withdrawn.

You can renew your $120 annual plan with the discount or renew at full price and get a discounted phone, but cannot take advantage of both.

        • Thanks mate. Ironically, 5G is not included in the $120 annual plan. So even if we get the phone, we wont get 5G.
Also, this requires us to renew the plan early, which would mean losing all existing validity (whatever 3-4 weeks that is left).

I'd like it if I got this offer closer to actual plan expiry. I still have 3 months to go, and yet have been targeted for this same offer. I am skeptical of renewing the annual plan so much in advance.

          • @djoz: An option would be to do what OP has done. Don't renew your plan. Purchase the phone for $79 with the voucher code and the cheapest prepaid plan at checkout ($30). This will bring the total price to $109.

        • Yes, I tried to buy a new standalone $30 plan (which cost only $4.5 after cashback), activated it, then bought the phone. The website still asked me to pay for an additional $30 plan and consider that as an early recharge.
I chatted with the support team, and luckily, they refunded my initial $30 plan.

          • @Averell: how much did you pay for the phone? did you receive the $79 offer?

  • Have one of the G62 coming, planning to use it with an Ethernet dongle as a cheap 5g router.
The USB port is only USB2.0 so this will be limited to 480Mbit half duplex but that will be plenty with my local 5g speeds.

Its not 100% clear if these are locked or not (there is a FAQ for "is the phone locked" but this lists iPhone, Samsung and Pixel as unlocked and Oppo/OptusX as locked so Motorola is not mentioned).
Hoping to get it unlocked for free if it is locked with the above not mentioning it as locked (to use boost sims).

    • Before buying, I chatted with the support team, and they said it was not locked.
Will be plugging a Vodafone SIM into it this weekend to test.

      • Received mine today, it is not locked and the speeds are pretty good, however a roadblock for my setup is that it does not seem to want to charge and run the USB Ethernet at the same time.
If the dongle is attached with charge cable it will charge but not enable the Ethernet, if no power is attached it will operate the Ethernet but not charge even if a charge cable is connected later.

        A quick google and I found someone logging a similar case for a G53 5g: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/moto-g53-5G/Ethernet-Tethering-…

So not expecting it to work unless I figure out another way to power it (maybe take it apart and hardwire a power source to the battery connection).

        • Was your boxed unsealed? I was surprised to find mine was and suspected it was pre-owned.

          • @Toph Beifong: Nope mine was sealed, was dead flat and had no security updates since early 2022 so pretty sure it was old stock.

  • The only offer I got from Amaysim for the G62 5G was $199 until 3 March. Now it's $249. I'm not interested in paying this much for a phone with Android 14 as its last OS update. I'd consider it for the $109 price though.
