Excellent value. Just no DV. I have the S95B that was gimped after the latest firmware update.

      Samsung really hates DV.

      • Since they hold 30% of the global TV market, I suppose I'm safe without DV !?

        • +2

They could release DV with a firmware update. They're just sulking because DV is better than HDR and don't want to pay $$ for it.

    • +2

It's not a visible dip in the S95B, the bigger issue is the longevity numbers they're seeing to want to keep making these changes.

      • Yeah, the Accelerated Longevity Test doesn't look good.
I put it in another room and went back to the Sony A80J.

What happened at the latest firmware update?

      • There was a reduction in peak brightness and PQ EOTF tracking.

        • -1

Isn’t this happening with all manufacturers of oleds though , decreasing peak brightness from the spec’s they sell them at ?

          • +1

@beach bum: Most severely with the Samsungs as testing has shown the QD-OLED degrades MUCH quicker than W-OLED as they have to put higher voltage through the diodes to achieve the same brightness. Samsung also doesn’t have MLA tech which helps boost brightness at the same usage

            • @Anthropomorphised: MLA is new tech this year , right ?
or at least not in last years C2 ,
where they continually gimp the tv with every other update ,
any bet they lower the brightness of the G3/C3 once the 4series comes out .

Sorry , don’t know about Samsung so much ,
but I know it was sold as last years brightest tv .

              • @beach bum: MLA was new on the G3 last year, the new G4 will be the second year it’s around.

I wouldn’t be hugely shocked if they lower the brightness of some models, but the G series have a heatsink to reduce panel wear, so there shouldn’t be this issue there at least.

Surely one could make the case that brands hobbling the brightness of their screens after purchase is agains ACL as bait and switch. All they need to do is have a toggle for users to choose to prefe longevity or panel performance

                • @Anthropomorphised: But in practice , they say the latest update improves performance or something vague along those lines and dim it down again , and most don’t notice another incremental change .
Then in 5years they’ve saved 50 mil in warranty claims for every year .
Everyone’s so fixated on the new features and the next generation.
I mean look at Sony , they run away from last years models like they just sold you dodgy tickets on the street .

Need the 65" to go on proper sale. Missed out on the $2200 deal few weeks ago. And now best I can do is $2560 on the edu site which includes 5% off and a $50 voucher. Wondering if I should roll the dice for April sales or just buy it at that price.

It would look great on your living room 😬 Go for it. I got one last week from edu at this price and love it.
