      It depends on which gift cards you are talking about.

      TCN HIM, TCN Shop

      Sort of.

      The TCN Him and TCN Shop gift cards in this deal are multi-retailer physical gift cards that can be redeemed at a specific list of participating retailers (much like an Ultimate Him or Ultimate Shopping gift card).

      However, you cannot add the TCN Him and TCN Shop gift cards in this deal to a mobile wallet (unlike Ultimate (Visa) gift cards). Instead, the two options you have for redeeming TCN Him and Shop gift cards are:

      • Instore: you need swipe the physical gift card on the EFTPOS terminal, select SAV and enter the PIN on the back of the gift card.

      • Online: you need to go to the TCN website and exchange the full or partial balance of your TCN gift card for a digital gift card from a participating retailer. For example, at the time of writing this comment, you can go to the TCN Him webpage and exchange your physical TCN Him gift card for a digital JB Hi-Fi gift card.

      Not all participating retailers will support both these options, so make sure to check the TCN website first before committing to purchasing a TCN gift card.

      TCN Good Food

      Sort of.

      The Good Food gift card in this deal is a physical prepaid eftpos gift card that can be redeemed at merchants using MCC 5812 or MCC 5813, except:

      • Merchants who choose to not accept eftpos prepaid as a payment method.
      • Merchants using Square EFTPOS terminals. Square does not process payments over the eftpos network if you swipe a card on the EFTPOS terminal… and the only way you can redeem a Good Food gift card in this deal is by swiping it.

      There is no way to exchange the Good Food gift card in this deal for a digital Good Food gift card (nor add the physical Good Food gift card to a mobile wallet).

      TCN Pub & Bar, TCN Cinema

      Mostly.

      The TCN Pub & Bar and TCN Cinema gift cards are physical prepaid eftpos gift cards that can be redeemed at merchants using specific MCCs, except:

      • Merchants who choose to not accept eftpos prepaid as a payment method.
      • Merchants using Square EFTPOS terminals.

      Having said that, you can go to https://choice.gift and exchange your physical TCN Pub & Bar or TCN Cinema gift cards for a digital Mastercard version that can be stored on Apple Pay, Google Wallet or Samsung Wallet. (I believe you need to register your TCN Pub & Bar or TCN Cinema gift card first before you can request an exchange.)

        I haven't found the upper limit. I used 56 gift cards to buy my DSLR camera because I couldn't find enough $50 gift cards and had to buy $30 ones. This was only a couple of weeks ago. I tried to be nice to the cashier and went on a Tuesday morning when I was working from home and knew it would be kinda quiet.

    How can you use the full value of the TCN Good Food cards ? Most restaurants I find have the EFTPOS linked to register and can only charge the full value of the transaction.

      Probably 80% of the Restaurants I've been to allowed split payment and yes that includes EFTPOS machines linked to the register. It's always worth asking.

      One way to see the MCC code and/or category of the debitor is to have the transaction take money from an account with institutions including Bank First and those affiliated with Teacher's Mutual Bank.

      TCN cards show the merchant code in the transactions in the TCN App. So just use any old/depleted TCN card at your local, it will decline and list the MCC in the app. Works for online too.

        I think that is only true for the Android version of the TCN app.

        If you look at the category of a transaction on the iOS version of the TCN app, it should only say PLACEHOLDER.

      No you cannot use points or gift cards to buy gift cards… you can use discounted prepaid visa cards, but even split transactions at the checkout using multiple forms of payment are not allowed. So you'd have to make sure the discounted visa card is just 1 card for that 1 transaction…

          if you have any eftpos giftcard on apple pay/google pay, then you can tap. just tell them that you are paying with card and not a giftcard and it should work. if you tell them you are using a giftcard they will cancel the transaction and tell you that you cant do that.

          but you didnt hear that from meeeeeeeeeee

      Ummm it was super easy to purchase apple gc using Ultimate at JB (changing Ultimate to Apple, not Ultimate-JB-Apple) I’ve done at multiple stores different states and they were all fine with it.

          Got a friend trying to buy some Apple gift cards with the physical TCN gift cards at multiple JB HiFi physical stores (in WA) and they are flat out not allowing them to buy them anymore with these.

          This is even trying to say that they are trying to do this as a payment method and not explicitly saying they are using a "gift card" to pay for the Apple gift cards, as we have all done before.

          Apparently they were given the heads up about this last week and are enforcing a new "policy" that was only updated "recently", even though the above policy was updated in November 2023.

      The TCN Good Food gift card is not new. OzBargain seems to suggest it has been around since November 2021.

      It has not replaced the TCN Restaurant gift card.

      Both the TCN Good Food gift card and the TCN Restaurant gift card are officially permitted to be used at MCC 5812 and MCC 5813 (subject to its acceptance at a particular merchant).

    Tried at my local metro at 7.45am and scanning everyday reward card.. But it was NOT reducing the price..

    Manager was not really helping, not knowing what to do as it should be automatically discounted.

    I bought these to buy something from JB HiFi, they price matched it online and terms said I cant use TCN gift card on their JB Deal link, has anyone tried it?

      You cannot redeem the TCN gift cards in this deal directly on the JB Hi-Fi website, because these gift cards operate on the eftpos network and do not support online transactions.

      You should be able to get around this by going to the TCN Him gift card webpage and exchanging the partial or full balance of a TCN Him gift card for a digital JB Hi-Fi gift card. Someone else mentioned a few weeks ago that you can only redeem a maximum of ten JB Hi-Fi gift cards in a price-matched online transaction. Do the terms of your price-matched offer say that?

    Anyone managed to puchase $100 pub and bar card? Discount didn't show up at the register and store and customer service have claimed that only the $50 one is on sale (despite the catalogue and poster saying otherwise).
