This pizza oven has just been reduced a further $50 for Spotlight Vip members and is now $150 (reg price $400).

You can get it for $130 with this $20 off coupon
RFHBU567

And apparently (read comments) get a further $5 off with click n collect.

Else it's FREE SHIPPING

It's free to become a spotlight VIP member (just need to provide your pH and postcode to sign up).

Dimensions for the pizza stone are not on the website, but judging by the size of it (boxed, in store) it looked big enough for a 12in pizza.

It has no reviews - I would be interested to hear how it compares to the Bunnings Jumbuck Portable / Ooni knock off.

IF ANYONE HAS ONE ALREADY - CAN YOU PLEASE POST PICS OF YOUR PIZZAS? (The jumbuck portable one from Bunnings looks like it nails neopolitan pizzas every time…. Does the spotlight one? )

  • Any recommendations on the best pizza oven?

    • +3

Ooni karu imo, but they are expensive.

    • +3

      Gozney Dome.

      • Or if gas only is your preference, the new Gozney Arc or Arc XL which are half the price of the dome.

        • +2

Agree but he asked for best. I still think having the option for wood or charcoal is a bonus.

Don’t have my glasses on and thought you said “Impossible to cook up a pizza” until I squinted a bit. :)

      • +2

I read that as "cook up a pizza" and thought that's not a glowing review ಠ_ಠ

      • How long do the batteries last for that turntable?

        • -1

          It’s mentioned in the review.

          • @huntabargain: Ah, my bad. I started looking up the device itself, as I can't watch that YT video at work right now.

            • +1

@pizzaguy: If I remember correctly ~40/50 hr on battery or can use the supplied power cable. Double check when go home.

              • +1

@huntabargain: Yep, official line is 50 hours, or just plug it in.

      • That's the one I'm getting unless the local distributor of Morsø pulls their finger out and get's the Forno Spin approved for use here. https://morsoe.com/en/product/indoor/accessories/morso-forno…

    • -1

If you got solar then an electric is best. I got a HIZO e12 unit from Kegland. https://www.kegland.com.au/products/hizo-e12-electric-pizza-… very happy with it. I put it under the range hood and cook pizza rain, hail or shine.

      • +4

If you got solar then an electric is best.

"an electric" suggests that any electric is good (or "best"), which can't be farther from truth.

Unless "an electric" oven can reach above 400 and is roomier than 10", I wouldn't even compare it to this deal's gas oven, about which we only know it's $150 at Spotlight.

        • +4

Yes but this HIZO E12 is 12”, can reach 400c and on one of the pictures they measured stone temp of 425c and it does not require turning the pizza as much and can be used indoor and it cost $199, so I think it could be good option for some people. Saying that, I am happy with my Koda 16.

          • +3

@huntabargain: From my experience with Hizo E12:
            - it takes longer to heat up and to bounce to the reasonable temperature between pizzas; given the pizzas aren't huge, it takes some time to feed the folk,
            - you can use it indoors, but it's hard to avoid the smoke if you're using any sort of flour to launch your pizza, which is usually a must when it comes to high-hydration dough, like neapolitan style; so either you know what you're doing with the dough or having it under a proper rangehood is must
            - not that easy to clean all the nooks through the small door

Sure you can get great effects with Hizo E12, but it's not as good as a gas one. If I couldn't use a gas one, I'd probably try a ~$100 clamshell pizza device next - link to illustrate only, I have no idea if that particular one is good or whether any of those would be good, TBH.

The bottom line: Hizo E12 isn't the best, even on solar. Especially compared to any gas pizza oven.

            • @pizzaguy: Well I think you get lots for $199, compared to other indoor elec oven such as Breville $1000 or Ooni Volt $1500. They all would still need time to heat up and recovery time as they are limited to 10 amp power. By the way according to AVPN true Neapolitan style is not high hydration.

              • +1

@huntabargain: I may be getting downvoted for my opinion on E12, yet it doesn't change the fact that it's slower to heat up, harder to clean, and that running it indoors is rather risky (because of smoke).

Yup, it's cheap and couldn't be simpler - you can't even open the enclosure, it's not repairable. But the oven in this deal is even cheaper, even simpler, and way more effective. Please, keep in mind that I'm fighting the seemingly random claim that "an electric oven on solar is the best".

AVPN true Neapolitan style is not high hydration.

Today I learned! Now I wonder why all those YT chefs tell you to do 70%+ hydration dough. Might be because it's much drier in a home pizza oven compared to a restaurant's big oven.

                • @pizzaguy: Not sure who downvoted, but you missing the point, no one is comparing HIZERO E12 with this gas oven, they are different application and some people have both gas for outdoor use and elect for indoor use. Your argument would apply to ALL electrical ovens and obviously there is still some people buying otherwise Breville and Ooni among others wouldn’t have made their ovens. So don’t see the need to attack someone who bought a HIZRO E, specially if they are happy with it..

            • +2

@pizzaguy: I have the black masterpro clamshell oven without the window - it works pretty well (my memory is hazy but I vaguely recall my last temperature readings were c. 330, or in the low 300s in any event, about a 20-30 minute preheat time is sufficient). It makes a really nice thin crispy pizza and the crust is crunchy, but what it will not do is a Neapolitan style with a puffy/crunchy/chewy crust which I am really keen on upgrading to try making. I cook on maximum heat and to avoid overcooking my toppings I par-bake the base with sauce for 4 minutes (rotate 90 degrees once at about 2:30) and then add toppings and cook another 2:30 (rotate at 1:30). Was actually a really good and cheap way to get into the hobby to see if I liked it (growing my own basil helped a lot with that equation).

I think the point about the more expensive Ooni, Breville and Cozze electric ovens is that they actually can reach those 400+ temperatures (I'm assuming a lot more of the cheap gas ones can also do so) and cook a fully-loaded Neapolitan style pizza in one go in 90-120 seconds - if there's an oven that falls in between those parameters (e.g. 3-5 minute cooking time) I'm not sure if it brings anything new to the table.

      • Interesting! How hot does it actually get and does it allow a crispy base? How much power does it draw, 2kW?

        • I have not measured the temp but you can set the contoller to 400c. If you are not carful the base will be charred and black. I make my own fresh dough and I normally set the bottom to 400c and top to 350c - cooking takes about 5-10 min. Pizza comes out crispy. Check out the photos posted on Kegland community FB page for evidence. Haven't measured the current draw but it runs on a standard 10amp socket so less then 2.4kw.

          • @Stivo: I think the bottom temp should be lower than the 400, say 300 and upper element on highest ie 400, so don’t burn pizza bottom and should be able to cook it faster and get some leopard spots.

            • @huntabargain: My two cents - some home ovens can reach 300 degrees and heat up a pizza stone to that temperature too. Most of the modern ones can go to 250 and have a grill/broiler-only function, ie. only the top element is in use and it's certainly hotter than 250 directly under it.

If you need 5-10 mins to bake a single pizza in the tiny E12, you may as well try the same in kitchen oven, as long as the stone is properly hot.

Saves you money, space and effort operating the E12. And you probably already have a rangehood over the your kitchen oven.

              • +1

@pizzaguy: Most home oven reach 250, so 400 is some 160% more heat.. and to soak the pizza stone in a home oven would need to preheat it for around 1 hr, so not very economical.. You can watch Vito baking a pizza in his home oven using a biscotti stone, but that would put you back few hundred dollars to buy from Italy..

      • Really happy with the results and the ease of use of my HIZO E12

    • +2

I have a kegland hizo 14 gas and it's great, got a good discount for a small group buy of 5 too.

      • Can second that good results are definitely possible from the hizo g14.

      • I finally nailed my dough/temp combo on the hizo last night and I'm stoked. Didn't pay anywhere near what an Ooni would cost and it's just as good as far as I'm concerned.

  • Hope it comes with a peel or imma have some very ouchy hands.

    • I doubt it at that price, go grab one from ebay for cheap.

  • +2

It comes with no peel or bag, just the oven. If I recall correctly it has a 14x12 inch stone, I could measure it later.

I bought a peel on Amazon for 30

I have used it twice, in my opinion it worked great, but I haven’t used any other one.

    • If you rate the peel you bought would you mind sharing a link?

        • +7

          Why even ozbargain.

          • -7

@pizzaguy: To share and find good deals that aren't available anywhere else?

            • +4

@magic8ballgag: Why not just search Amazon yourself and read the offers? :)

              • -8

                @pizzaguy: I do.

"Please share a link" is short for "I'm lazy and can't be bothered researching for myself".

                • +8

@magic8ballgag: Ah yes, because there's one pizza peel on Amazon and we should all be able to tell what @Pelta bought without asking :D

What you're saying might be right somewhere, sometime, but surely not in these circumstances.

                  • -6

                    @pizzaguy:

Ah yes, because there's one pizza peel on Amazon and we should all be able to tell what @Pelta bought without asking

Who cares what a single member on some random website recommends? Amazon have a built-in review system where millions of people shop and leave feedback for their purchases.

The hard work is done for you, and a small amount of effort is required to make a decision, but that's apparantely still too difficult for some, hence the "please tell me what to buy so I don't have to think for myself" comments are posted on most deals here.

        • +1

You're a bit special aren't you. I'm asking because I trust, rightly or wrongly, that @Pelta is a real human, with experience with the particular item which I have just purchased. Who can offer first hand experience using a product I'm interested in with the exact parameters of use that I will have. as opposed to the AI drafted, often purchased, curated reviews on amazon which are known for their reliability /s.

So yes, I'm lazy, I don't want to have to order and return a number of devices, but I do this because I trust the feed back of my fellow hooman on this here Forum rather than the crazy market place over there.

          • -5

            @maxwellian:

            You're a bit special aren't you.

We're all special in our own way, at least my specialty isn't taking advantage of others.

So yes, I'm lazy, I don't want to have to order and return a number of devices

I know you are. And what you're suggesting isn't necessary when you can just read the reviews on Amazon which consist of more than just one human.

beware with a perforated peel you will increase your chance of the base sticking to the peel

          • +1

@Aldonis: This is not correct information.

          • @Aldonis: So which one you use?? I have both timber and perforated metal and most time use metal one as it shake excess semolina/flour.

        • +2

Yeah, that’s the one I got, some reviews complain about uneven edges where the dough gets stuck, but I had no issue with mine. Great for the price

        • Thanks for the tip. No issues getting under the pizza with the peel one in the oven? Only asking as I foolishly bought one that looked similar from AliExpress for a secondary (hizo g14) oven and it was awful - not flat or rigid and had minimal (if any) tapering. Ended up just pushing pizzas into the jets trying to get them out. Now I just take the gozney peel from my first oven.

    • Yes please - if you could check the Stone dimensions that would be greatly appreciated!

I'm the OP and am tossing up whether to buy this or a similar one. The pizza stone dimensions will be the determining factor.

I'm also wondering whether I'd be able to replace the 'new' style gas hose with the older style as I have so many unused older style hoses lying around and I'm not keen on moving to the new style just yet (it's like when Apple bring out a new connector… And is why I'm an Android user lol 😂)

      • +1

        You won't be able to.

But remember the new style connector is backward compatible with old gas cylinders afaik. There's a chart online

        • why not it's only a spanner to undo, I get you can no longer find the old style gas hoses to buy in the likes of bunnings but plenty still around

        • Fwiw, my green connector bottles aren't compatible with the new black connector on the jumbuck.

I did connect it, and when I opened the valve I could smell the leakage and also hear it.

Annoying cuz I've got green and black bottles now

      • +1

I have an old style Webber BBQ and can confirm that the new bottles are compatible with the older connector/hose.

      • +1

Straight burner at the back above the pizza stone.
The pizza stone is 14" wide and 12" deep.

The back of the stone gets to 450+ in about 20 mins

    • +2

jumbuck pizza oven comes with a peel for $199 so it isnt much more for a known oven

  • +1

Description has 4 legs, but that picture definitely looks like 3 as an ooni clone.

    • yes, description is wrong, it has 3 legs but still seem stable

  • +2

I got this one a few months ago (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/819145), and it's impossible to use.

Gas seems a better idea. Wondering if it is possible to get the temp up to the 400deg mark? And how it goes doing a run of 3 or 4 pizzas?

    • +1

I can't tell for certain, but I'm pretty sure it gets at least 400 degrees.

Depending on the burner, it may take 20-30 mins to reach such decent temperature.

    • Explain?

    • +2

I'm out of the loop. Why the need to boycott them?

      • +3

You don't, there is a particular user who irks a lot of people invading posts from stores saying to boycott. He links them to Israel or the likes. I think he's an intrusive troll and the community also tend to think similarly but it hasn't stopped yet.. not sure why the mods are allowing this but whatever.

You can hold yourself back from the sufferings of the world, that is something you are free to do and it accords with your nature, but perhaps this very holding back is the one suffering you could avoid

          • +2

@eddyah: They are not correlated by default. The user and like minded followers are implicating that these are directly connected.
These posts are not places to bring politics and agendas. There are forums which are more appropriate place to discuss these concerns.

            • +2

@maverickjohn: The hint for leaving a comment is Share your thoughts

This is a forum of healthy and open discussion. I have no problem with people posting random shit in deals (e.g. jv). I don't pick and choose what I like and don't like.

People can say things like "don't buy from Gerry Harvey" or "don't support this genocide company" (or even like what @D0nny did and make a JOKE about it but get downvoted for it).

At the time of writing you've got +2 on your post by people believing only what they want to hear should be posted on these forums. This kind of mentality is against open discussion of posting things which I consider cowardice.

Bots, spammers and hate speech in general should be immediately downvoted and banned.

Raising issues, talking about things and bringing things to light are general things people do which is healthy IMO

              • @eddyah: I do disagree that its against open discussion, i just think theres a right time and place for these discussions.
I haven't negged you because i do see this as a healthy discussion, i just think we are doing it in the wrong place..
That is purely my opinion, but i know is similarly felt with others.

                • @maverickjohn:

That is purely my opinion, but i know is similarly felt with others.

                  100% - it's why i posted the kafka quote.

I struggle with it too but the fact that I am uncomfortable about it is a good thing (rare instance, along with public speaking).

    • +13

You either saved me $20 or cost me $130

      • +3

I wasn't planning to drop $130 on an unreviewed pizza oven from Spotlight (of all places) either…

    • +3

      Thank you too.

Managed to convince myself not to buy this when it was first posted. At $130 though, I just could not resist :-)

      • +1

Also $5 voucher if you click and collect, I couldn't be bothered though

    • It was a "might buy" before, but this code made me buy it. Thanks, or not haha

      • +5

        You're welcome and/or sorry about that…

    • +1

The real MVP - cheers to you and OP, this was too tempting to not snag one.

  • Anyone used this oven yet? Keen to hear how hot it gets, and the pizza stone dimensions!

Also - how easy would it be to replace the 'new' style hose with the older style hoses. I have so many unused hoses lying around and want to use them up!

    • +3

Assuming it's identical to the Coles Monro one as commented below, I find it gets stone to about 250-300 C, the oven itself probably doing 400. It's a bit below the Ooni it is a clone of but having used my friends Ooni and Gozneys, there isn't much difference until you step up to the big boys in teh $1000+ category

  • Thanks OP, ordered. First time I’m owning any gas powered thing, is there any specific gas cartridge/canister that I should be looking for at Bunnings?

    • +2

A 4kg or 8.5kg Gas bottle would be a good start. Probably pick the over up first and see if it uses the new or old type bottle fitting

    • +8

You’re going to need this canister

    • +2

You'll want one that has the new LCC27 fitting. Grab an old expired one for free off marketplace then do a swap and go from bunnings and just make sure it has the new fitting. You can tell the difference as the LCC27 has large threads on the outside of the connector, the old POL fittings do not, they have internal threads only.

      • +2

Thank you! At least I’ll have some words to throw around at hammerbarn

        • Its the black connector at Bunnings, the old ones are green connectors

          • @Kammi: I have two 9kg gas bottles full of gas.
Is there an adapter that i can buy to use the old bottles ?
