This looks kind of cool, but I'm completely wary of any baby monitor that tries to drag you into a subscription for 'premium' features after a free trial.

Has anyone had any experience with these and how necessary the subscription features might be?

    • +1

The following functions and features are included with your CuboAi purchase and do not require a CuboAi Care subscription.

      Basic Camera Functions:

      Cough Detection Alerts
      Cry Detection Alerts
      Temperature & Humidity Alerts
      HD Night Vision
      7 Day Notification Events
      18 Hour Playback
      Two Way Audio
      Built-in Night Light
      Family Sharing
      Multiple Baby Monitor Support
Smart Home Integration (CuboAi Plus only)
      Built-in Lullabies (CuboAi Plus only)

      From https://help.getcubo.com/hc/en-us/articles/900001969346-What…

Actually a decent amount of core features above. We have 4 months left of our 1 year included plan, won't make much of a difference for us when it finishes.

    • +3

People I have spoken to who have this rather said they no longer found a need to go premium after 1 year as the baby is also now 1year old and those functions arent of too importance as they are in the earlier months of birth.

      • +2

Second this - you don’t need roll over alerts when they’re old enough.

2 years 10 months down and this thing never fails. Even when nbn goes down it still works seamlessly over wifi only. Incredible piece of kit - 10/10 would recommend.

    • +2

We've been using one for the last 2.5 years, and have purchased a second (wall mounted) for the next baby due in a few weeks. We've never subscribed and never felt the need to.

Also worth noting that they just implemented a feature for multiple cameras and viewing side by side which is very handy for us and something we never considered before having our first child.

    • +1

Have had one and used it for 2 years.
Has needed a reset a few times, we use the sound / noise feature, turns off after an update - eg once a month.
Otherwise has been solid and worked well. The ability to look at the last 24 hours is really useful, more so than i expected. temp is off but helpful as you get used to how far out it is and still helps understand if too hot / cold.
We dont use any of the notification stuff, it seems to work, but didn't want all those updates. To me becomes mostly irrelevant once you don't mind if they roll over.
      Good luck

    • I have used it for nearly 2 years. It came with a 1 year subscription. After that we didn't renew the subscription. It's not really needed unless you want to record your kid crying for a long time. You lose some recording capabilities, and most of the lullibies. But the main features (cry detection, roll-over detection, etc) don't need a subscription.

  • Ozbargain Alert done its job on this, ty for the post.
Have been waiting for a sale to popup.

  • +1

We have one of these - 3 years old now.
Came with an included 12 months of the subscription but havent purchased it since. Cubo were also pretty easy to deal with when our temperature sensor was malfunctioning - had a replacement in a couple of days.

It works well as a camera - cant fault it really. We can access it remotely (not sure if this is a pro or a con tbh) and have invited grandparents (Aus + european) and everyone can access it.

We never really used any of the sleep reports, historical records, etc. which I think is what the premium tries to push.

I cant fault it, but I can help but think it was overpriced and our needs would have been served just as well by a simple TP link camera

  • I tried many and Cubo is definitely the best, they are missing features like picture in picture… and the video monitor on the phone is lacking.

After 1 year you wont need the premium mostly.

Get it, unless they are releasing a newer version soon.

  • just get a tapo c110

    • +1

      Yep.
i bought two tapo c200s for the kids
then one for the elderly parent
      then one for the delivery-cam

      now i have 4
      Those tapos are so useful.

  • It's not bad - alerts on phones is useful. This has been reliable for us. The feature which lets you view footage has been interesting. We briefly looked at sleep data, but second child - much less data recording in general.

We're out of the subscription now and don't really need the premium features.

It also has a white noise function, but I found the sound to be a bit harsh compared to a Google home speaker. I never used the night light and have a colour smart bulb that can be set to red.

That said, for our situation, overkill. We used a non video analogue baby monitor for our first child and it was perfectly fine. I mainly bought it as I wanted to try it out.

  • +1

This is definitely overkill. Any cheap camera will do honestly, don't spend more than you need new parents!

  • Do we know when this deal expiry? I can't seems to see anything on their page, like it is a 1 day only birthday sale?

  • +1

Just get one with a dedicated parent unit, I can imagine it would get pretty annoying getting your phone out and opening an app each time to have a look.

    • This is the approach a sibling took. They like the dedicated monitor that you can leave set up.

I prefer cubo(or similar) as it's one less device to deal with and I don't really care about video feed unless there's an alert.

      • +1

Use an old phone or iPad and it’s the same thing - but you also have the option for using more devices as well

    • +3

i thougth this too but glad i got talked into the cubo in the end because everyone looking after the baby can access it. i can even sneak a peak when i get a nap alert and his at work

  • Also available at Amazon for the same price (with a $199 coupon), if you want faster delivery and amazon support etc.

    • How does this one differ? Seems cheaper with fewer stands but adds a wall mount?

      https://amzn.asia/d/9sWLXDA

      • Extra stand options come with a stand alone floor stand and a crib mount option. Both super versatile in my opinion than just the fixed wall mount. Their website has more details

    • Definitely get from amazon.
The support from Cubo direct is beyond bad (you have to pay them to send the device back + a bunch of extra fees).
Amazon support is amazon…super easy to deal with and have seen comments on previous sales that they have helped out even outside of the warranty period.

      • Returned mine to Amazon AFTER the 12 month warranty. No questions asked. Full refund. Cubo were absolutely awful to deal with. Tried twice and gave up both times.

Camera crapped out and just literally stopped turning on. Replaced it with a cheap Tapo camera and honestly functionality is basically the same for what we actually used it for. The whole sleep pattern stuff really is a huge wank and MOST people will rarely touch it would be my guess.

Absolutely worst part by far though was taking it away with us on a trip and then realising we had no way to hook it up to hotel wifi and therefore couldn't use it at all. In hindsight I would have needed a portable travel router etc. I also had to block it form making a LOT of outbound connections which didn't seem necessary (and didn't stop functionality when blocked).

  • +3

Don't get from Cubo, get from Amazon for better warranty claims if required.

  • I have this. Doesnt need premium to be good, didnt resub after trial, its a great product!

I dont pay after free trial, cant record in app is biggest issue but you CAN screen record inbuilt within phone - and manually watch last 16 -20 hours of video and record what ever you choose…

Great product. expensive but im 3 years in and thinking of 2nd one for 2nd kid.

  • Gday
Buy as many tapo C200 cameras as you want, and using an RTSP/ONVIF app to your already-owned tablet.
    plus 1 bt temp sensor

This is what i do for my kids

  • +1

Seems like a decent product but overpriced. Don’t let the AI in the name fool you. Computer vision is classed as AI.

If I had to, I’d just get one of the c210 Tapo cameras. Unless you find your baby face down all the time you wouldn’t need this.

  • I used the CuboAI - the movement/AI recognition image features have never worked properly. Literally never during the whole newborn period with my son.
Support didn't do anything, just apologised every time the app continued to ask me if I was happy or not and I said no.

  • +1

DO NOT buy direct from Cubo. Their support is atrocious - just google it.

After 1 year, a lot of people including me have had their camera fail. It will cost you at least 100USD to get fixed.

Now using a Tapo C210 and it's great.

    • Exact same issue. Trash company truly. Their support was garbage.

If you really want it (i'm 50/50 recommending this to anyone tbh, the features really just don't get much use once you leave the frantic first baby stage), buy it from Amazon and save yourself the pain.

  • Is it just a notification if baby cries? Prob wont hear on my phone unlike a traditional monitor..

  • This or eufy baby monitor?

Same price on Amazon, better customer support.

Great camera, easy to set up.
Don’t need premium after the first year.

  • +1

    Bought exactly this in Novemnber.

Using it with little one for 10 weeks.

    • App quite good and easy enough to use
    • Notifications are great - a clear bonus over a basic camera set up
    • temp and humidy sensor has been good on hot days/cold nights (Melbourne)
    • Camera quality is good, especially in the dark
    • white noise generator is basically the only sound setting we have used and worded well
    • night light is a bit weak, but no biggie for us
    • Subscription not needed unless you really want those extra features.
  • We have Cubo, great product highly recommend. Have used it for 3 years now with no issues.

  • It looks like Amazon no longer has the same price? Just went to buy this. Can anyone else confirm?
