Holy shit i was literally looking at this phone on Officeworks not 2 mins ago and thought "might as well see the historical price on OzB"

    • +8

That’s awesome. Love it when that happens

      • +4

If I was considering it at $788 on OW, you can guess how fast my clicking was at this price.

        • lol

Why not ultra ? Is this phone decent ?

        • Why?
Should have just walked up to the OW Desk and get it price beat

    • I just sqw a youtube short on this being one of the least repairable phones (first time i heard of it) and i open ozbargain and it appears.

      • depends on what you define as repairable, outside of warranty repair costs for most phones are expensive, so after the 2-3 yrs warranty it’s time to upgrade if broken, if you have a flagship phone take out extended warranty.

      • +2

Most phones don't just break themselves, with a few years life, I don't think most people care if it's self serviceable

        • +1

And just because some don't care that phones can be user serviceable doesn't mean no phone should ever be user serviceable.

If the phone user don't care that their phone is user serviceable then it won't matter to them that it is.

You see how the ones that don't care about it should not have to dictate or speak for the ones who do. Because it was never going to matter to them.

      Google: "We know"

    • Glad to know I'm not the only one to whip my phone out and search ozbargain history while standing in the store at Officeworks or JB hifi.

  • 85hr endurance and no SD card. Bit of a bummer. Most of mine have been over 100.

    Nice screen and camera though.

They have really lopsided specs. Really good then really bad.

    • I always see people complaining about the camera, so good to hear!

      • I did no research but on paper should be good?

        • +3

Yeah on paper the camera always looks impressive, but I’ve learned otherwise from people’s comments over time!

          • +1

@Edamamme: a lot of the camera is software which they update over time anyway, sensor wise not many manufacturers so sometimes people say one phone is good and other phone is bad it might actually have same sensor so it’s software.

        • +2

Mostly nowadays when it comes to picture quality it's more about the software processing rather than the hardware specs. So companies like Motorola that invest less into their software will typically always lose out over Apple, Google and Samsung. Motorola seem more interested in keeping hardware costs to a minimal and support their hardware less so you upgrade more frequently.

          • +2

@Ronnnie: the frequent upgrade is not a bad thing, fresh battery life and if you break screen affordable enough to buy a new phone. When friends hos me their photos i’m not fussed on quality, it’s the boring topic and composition I notice more.

    • +3

Most higher end phones don't have microSD card support now though? Can't see how this is unusual.

      • That's cause they can charge $800 more for the 1tb versions.

There is a handful. Didn't think this is high end personally.

        • Don't buy the 1TB version then? I don't know of anyone that would need even close to that much storage on a phone. It would make far more sense paying for cloud storage at that point.

      • the architecture in the phone and card speed is making it less relative compared to flash built unless on a really tight budget. I can’t fill my 256GB even after 2 years. But i also have a PC so phone isn’t my sole storage place or where i look at photos or videos.

  • so much better value as Samsung counterpart

    • +4

      What about the camera quality?

      • I can bet that Samsung's colours are overdone

      • Might be fixed using Gcam try link below

  • Gen 1 nah sorry

    • +2

This price gen 1 with flip phone gimmick is a bargain plus updates for 3 years

  • +3

I really like mine (although the tiny cover screen kinda pointless), got in October, but has just developed a crack in the crease on the screen protector. Just started looking around at warranty and seems they don't cover it. Time to lean on Australian Consumer Law.

    • +1

So the folding screen is ok just the protector not lasting?

    • Is the folding gimmick really useful? That's the selling point

    • Can’t you just replace the protector? Or is it a factory fitted thing that cant be replaced?

      • +2

I believe it is laminated to the display layer itself. So it's basically a replacement of the whole display unit.

        • Can't you get separate two piece glass protector for this? Weird if it's sealed and embedded inside and under the screen

          • @neonlight: Nah. The screen is flexible not just at the fold line, so you can't use a glass screen protector X 2 halves. You can only get the hydrogel or TPU films to apply on top of the stock display as these materials bend, unlike glass type. But that is different to what the poster is referring to, he's referring to the stock 'protector' film, which isn't suppose to become delaminate or break due to the flexing.

    • Yep, this seems unavoidable with flip phones which is why I have never taken a risk on one. Read enough problems to avoid a regretful purchase

  • -6

By looks and design it seems to be Samsung flip 1st or 2nd Gen, rebranded as motorola…

Going by that avoid it as death. Within 1st year it will develop issues with screen, hinge, power cutting off when closed/opened, weird green screen tinting. No thanks.

    • +6

Completely different designs, not even comparable.

  • Can you install Gcam on this then no issues with camera me thinks

  • -1

    This is the way!

  • +1

I hate swapping phones, have to re login all the apps, re authenticate cards in wallet, re enrol device for work apps, log out apps from old device, re registered esim which takes upto 1 hour.

    • I love doing it. It's exciting. And rids you of whole lot of crap that you don't use.

      • Glad diversity exists

    • I have tried transferring WhatsApp data from iPhone to this phone 4 times, every time have to reset the moto and start from scratch. But whatsapp data transfer fails. So annoying.

      • +1

+1, still don't understand why can't WhatsApp have their own cloud. It's owned by meta which is huge

        • True.
Unable to transfer my years long Whatsapp data is giving me grief. Lost the excitement to use Android again.
Any one knows any work around?
My last option is to buy a Samsung phone from marketplace and try this using smart switch app and then backup whatsapp to g drive.

  • Had a RAZR 2019 awesome phone only thing missing was Samsung Ui…Motorola smart rescue assistant is yuck…..

  • +1

Might be targeted but shows as $647 with a code with ebay plus.
