Mine came with miss hongkong 2022

      • miss hongkong 2022
        Dellete it

  • +1

    Thanks op!

My zipper wrecked on my laptop carry case so this works!

    • One of the zippers on the bag had the dreaded “disconnection” and the stitching is not the best also at the zipper area. Otherwise it’s a good sized bag for the money

      • +1

        I agree with this statement

  • +19

    Dell Essential Backpack

    Name is misleading…

    I've survived without one…

    • +18

People don’t die instantly without essentials, it still takes time.

      • +5

        Now you have me worried…😟

    • +1

It will cushion your fall on your escooter

      • -4

        on your escooter

        I don't have one.

        • +2

Mine is big enough for two. Come ride up Victoria Parade to my other office.

          • +5

            @Clear:

Mine is big enough for two.

            Stop bragging…

  • +3

I had a dell one. the zipper was broken in one year or so.

    • +5

      Did dell replace your pants?

    • Mine lasted about a month

    • Mine lasted 2 months

    • +1

My bag’s zipper was also broken within 8 months and also the threading holding the zipper component unstitched so it is much harder to use now.

    • +3

I put in 2 8kg dumb dell and carry it for after dinner walking. It has been more than 1 year, not yet broken.

      • +1

        I like your style, Thbloke.

  • +6

Note that the main zip is behind the straps. It's a bit strange and awkward to use.
But… $15.50 is hard to pass up.

    • +18

For security. Hard to open while on your back

      • +6

Exactly this. To unzip once off your back, you just quickly flip the straps over the front of the bag. Easy.

      • +2

dang that is a good idea

  • -6

    Super ugly

    • how?

      • +14

        aesthetically…

  • +3

isn't someone got this and comment its quality is on the sh|t side?

    • +6

i've one, it feels pretty cheap, like you bought it for $15
      but it works fine

    • +2

I have got this and quality is pretty good.

      • I had this, and the quality feels slightly less than a cheap decathlon bag.

    • +2

this place really no love, i saw comments before and try to confirm its quality before I want to buy and got negged?

      • +14

they probably negged your grammatical skills

        • -4

lol so we also got grammar police here too?

          • +3

@kaikor: Yes. No one needs to see your comment 30 seconds earlier, it's not a live chat.

    • +2

Its a shit backpack..worth $15. Source: I bought one last time when it was $15.50 and felt ripped off.

      • +1

        felt ripped off

Let me guess. Even if the price was $5, you would still feel ripped off?

    • +2

I bought one a year or so back. It was great but we overstuffed it on a holiday trip which busted the fabric between the laptop and main compartments. At this price happily buying again

      • You might able to claim warranty on it.

  • +1

Fits most laptops up to 15inch, don't get unless you have up to 14inch Ultrabook.

  • -1

I think they got zip wrong way by mistake 😁

    • +11

or security. Hard to open while on your back

      • lol true

      • -2

Aren't all backpacks hard to open when on your back?
Unless you're double jointed I guess.

        • +3

          By others..

  • +4

I bought one of these two years ago.

Quality is good. It has a small strap that can loop over the handle of a wheelie suitcase.

Delivery was slow, as it came from Malaysia.

    • well advertises 3 day delivery for me in Melbourne so hopefully not that bad as i bought it already

    • +2

      nope - security feature

      • The idea of this bad zip design being a security feature is laughable.

Australia is a very low crime country for starters, and in high crime rate cities in other countries, theft is either people snatching your stuff and running, or on crowded public transport where your pack is sliced open with a razor. The fabric on this pack would be no help- it's not tough at all.

A badly placed zip is of no help.

It's not a manufacturing defect though- this is deliberate design. I bought one of these packs last year, and immediately got rid of it.

        • +2

Your inability to understand things doesn't make them mistakes. Security doesn't just mean people trying to take things, it also means securing things against accidents and failures. Having the zip on the back side takes all the stress off the zip while you're wearing it, and means that the zip is less likely to fail - and if it somehow does fail then your bag won't fall open.

          • -1

@macrocephalic: Over decades of using decent quality backpacks, have never had a zip fail on a single one of them. None of them adopted the dumbass design that Dell decided to use on this one.

I'm curious- do you own one of these to make a call on it? Because I bought one, assessed it as shite, and got rid of it.

Edit: Just read a bunch of other comments here. Looks like the zipper does have to be placed in a bad spot for security reasons- because the zipper is substandard quality and prone to breaking. Not surprising for a $15 bag, I guess. I'd trust Decathlon more.

            • @rumblytangara: I don't own this backpack, but I've owned plenty of other backpacks over the years - and a good portion of them have the zip like this - including the bag that I use right now. If they're intended to carry expensive goods (e.g. photography gear) or they're intended for on-road use (i.e. motorcycle bags) then they will almost always have the zip like this.

              • @macrocephalic: Every serious camera bag I've ever seen has far better access design. If there's panel access on the rear, it goes around the entire pack yet doesn't need the shoulder straps to be moved. My previous and current camera bags certainly have proper fast-access panels, though neither have been of the serious load-hauling variety.

Zip failures on proper camera bags (I have no familiarity with motorcycle bags) are just not a thing that I've come across people worrying about. Either online or with the handful of pro photographers I've known over the years. Buggering about with straps in the way is the last thing you want to do when you're trying to quickly change large, expensive lenses.

But of course, camera packs cost at least 10x the Dell so will not use such flimsy zips in the first place.

So perhaps this is a 'security' feature with the low capacity Dell pack in so far in that it compensates for poor quality, where the zip is reported to fail as a common issue.

Thanks, OP. Cheap as the proverbial - at $15.50 how bad could it be…. I guess I'll find out. ;-)

  • the "I work in IT" special

  • Thanks OP from me too, son said he doesn't care about quality, current backpack is peeling off, need a new one asap.

    • Quality is very good.

  • I can't tell from the pictures, but does the main compartment have any sort of support/structure?

And it doesn't look like there are any good spots for your keys or phone.

    • +2

If you go to the webpage and scroll down there is also a video of the backpack

  • Love Dell cases, always found them to withstand abuse without shifting the contents or the bag structure itself.

  • Guess it's more pickpocket proof but the zip is in an awkward position under the straps. Quite annoying to access

    • +1

      You get used to it

      • -2

Disagree. It's awful and always seems awful!

  • QC were bad , the shape on mine one was not symmetrical.

Better off waiting for the Dell gaming backpack 17 to go on sale. Had it for a few years, it’s great. https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/dell-gaming-backpack-17/apd/…

    • this is basically on sale @ $39.60 (discounts to $38.60 delivered). Best price anywhere else is $44, frequently $49+, and was $33 ‘on sale’ Feb 2022.

    • Do you use it with a 17" laptop? Or is it not too bulky for a 15" ?

I have an old Targus 17" laptop backpack, and even with the 17" laptop in it there is way too much extra room.

  • -1

Ugh, should I jumped the gun to store my beautiful macbook in this common looks laptop bag…

  • +1

These are awful. Just don't waste your $15 as they're poorly built and considered and you'll just end up getting something else.

  • Is this any bigger than the tiny Aldi backpack sold a few weeks ago?

  • +2

I believe they have redesigned this backpack.
I bought one 2 years ago under the same name (Essential Backpack 15) and SKU (ES1520P), but its side pockets definitely cannot fit any water bottle or umbrella.

However, the one I have is still big enough to hold a Macbook Pro 16" + iPad Air + MX Keys (tight fit, need to put it diagonally) + MX Master 3 + large power bank + small snack box + a few other small items, which I find pretty amazing.

I don't use it everyday but so far it's still holding up pretty well.

    • Which is which? The current one they are selling is bigger?

  • I've got a few backpacks now but only the super cheap ones (Kmart, Aldi) have main compartments which are remotely big enough to store my lunch. Any brands do this well?

  • +1

Beware this is too small, I look like a tortoise with that.

  • +2

    Omg 1 dollar….

  • Judging by the comments, its cheap for a reason.

  • +1

Garbage pack. Bought one as a deal last year.

For me, it was a waste of $15.

Materials are cheap but above average for the price, but as others have pointed out, the zip arrangement is frustratingly inconvenient- every single time you want to use it you need to faff about with the shoulder straps.

My pack was tested then tossed into the nearest donation bin.

I can be cheap, but some things in life are not worth putting up with. Shitty substandard backpacks that are used day in and day out are one of them.

  • The 17 inch gaming backpack is also half price.

  • +1

    Fwiw,

I got the item today and the courier (Team Global Express) carded me and didn't even bother to knock. We're both wfh!!!!!!!

So had to drive to BP and pickup the parcel from there (not even my local BP petrol station).

So $15.50 + my petrol and time 😆

The front pocket is a bit lacking, I've got a dell 13" bag? And the front pocket is a bit more organised and not 1 half size of the bag deep. I like the zip how its under the straps.

  • I the price of $15.50 is too expensive for a Ozbargainer, Big W sells sleeves to fit laptops for $8.00.
