Which provider is this? I need to churn through my nbn as I’m with origin on their $69 plan

      • I need to churn too. I think commonwealth Bank maybe best deal at the moment

        • +2

my 30% off with 24 months cba deal is ending next month and found out that the cba app yello displayed 40% off for 12 months. have a chat with more telecom this morning, the rep is going to apply the 40% off from next month for 12 months period.

        • -8

          I need to churn too.

          You're still using ADSL?

        • More 100/18 is only 61 kangaroos a month with yello.

      • -5

I need to churn through my nbn

        churn applies to ADSL only.

      • Leaptel got it wrong it is 1000/50

    • I also want to know which provider

      • Leaptel got it wrong it is 1000/50

    • -1

Yup same. No problems so far with them

  • $49 for same plan if you have home loan at CBA.

    • Where do you get that offer, Yello?

      • I popped somewhere in my home loan 50% off for 3 years. I also have 40% off in Yello for 12 months and give it to a friend.
        It is also listed here:

they didn't honour me 30k points last time after 3 months.

    • +3

What was the reason they gave for not honoring the deal?

    • +2

Did you call Flybuys. They would probably be the one to handle it. Show your proof of being with Optus for the time. Also their flybuys deals are only for new customers. If you were an existing customer you would be eligible for discounted price, but not the flybuys promotion.

  • After 6 months. Is there an option to return the modem to avoid the charge? - NBN Churner asks

    • You can choose to use your own modem I believe

    • +1

FYI, unless you are still FTTN, the modem is provided by NBNco. The main reason for wanting the optus modem would be 4G backup.

This means you can use any old wifi / router, including maybe your old one from ADSL days, if it is fast enough for you.
You could even plug your computer directly into the NBN box, and even share that over wifi hotspot. But most people will want a router :-)

    • Yes but have to pay $8.50 per month pro rata… over 36 months. So if you leave after 6 months ud have to pay 30 x 8.50$. If you are going to do this then better to get ur own router.. Then u wont get 4g back up..

Just a word of warning: a few months back I moved to Optus to get flybuys points. It was the worse service ever. I quickly moved back to Exetel.

    • Thanks for the heads up fozzie… I am considering a new ISP, could you tell what sort of plan/connection type and what specific issues you had? Cheers.

      • I was on 100-40, I was getting abysmal speeds. No problems with Exetel. You could always try and then in case cancel (like I did). I managed to somehow qualify for the points (despite cancelling after a few days). Husband wfh twice a week so needed a reliable connection

        • Ive never used Optus before. Just connected midnight last night. Download speed for a torrent is almost at maximum now. Consistently between 10-12MB/s. Just having a quick peek from time to time. So could have easily reached the max of 13MB/s aswell. Thats at evening peak time too. So far no complaints. We'll see how it is for dropouts as the days go on…

    • +1

I agree. With outages I wasted 5 hours with their offshore chat to resolve their issues

  • +5

Awesome, but I'll just post all personal my data up on the web and knock out the middle man though

    • Hahahah

      • Then you'll not be supporting the future of Gladys. Think it over.

    • I'm going with Google and Facebook to misuse my data, are least they aren't charging me for the privilege.

  • -2

100/20 at $75 a month then $88 after that is a ripoff (both). No deal here. Plenty of far better deals around for 6 months.

    • +3

But let's say you do the min 3 months for the $150 worth of Flybuys points. Comes out to be $25/month so surely that's good?

      • -1

It's not a $150 saving though, as you could go elsewhere for far less per month, with immediate savings, and not have to change again for 6 months (saving even more).

    • Any suggestions for better deals than this one? Planning on switching soon.

  • -2

This is not a bargain at all. Their NBN service is not the best from reviews online.

  • I am still churning More till Apr. hopefully offer get extended

    • I thought the 6-month initial discount is provided by NBNCo, so nobody can extend it, and you need to keep churning. Is that right?

      • No, it's not provided by NBN. NBN provide retailers $120 for each FttN or FttC customer that switches over to full fibre/FttP, it's up the the RSP what they do with that $120.

      • oh I am hoping this offer get extended. MORE one is unlikely.

  • I ported from Optus 6 months ago and that was the best thing I ever did after being with them for 10 years. Should have done it years earlier.

Terrible support, they find ways to increase the price and push you onto newer poorer value plans, to then give you 'discount' to make you feel good.

Don't fall for it. Better value with More. Tangerine, Exetel etc.

    • +3

Tangerine just had a massive security breach. I haven't been with them for many months. They just sent me an email saying all customers, new and old have had their details leaked.

      • So basically they're following the Optus business model is what you're saying?

  • +2

Just churn from tangerine to this deal. 30000 flybuy pts equal to $150. So U paying $50 pm if U also shop in Coles. Hope the speed is good with HFC. Time will tell

    • HFC effectively makes no difference on NBN as the speed is guaranteed.

  • I don't get the hate for this deal. Pay $300. Get four months of NBN and get 30,000 flybuys points, which buys $150 of Coles gift cards.

    Pretty awesome price for NBN.

I say four months, cause I want to make sure I get the points from flybuys.

    • I'm getting 1000/50 for $89 for 12months with Leaptel.

    • Can you cancel and leave/churn away from Optus straight away or do you need to give 30 days' notice like you do with Exetel etc?

    • Yeah who knows when the exact date will be when the flybuys is received. Origin NBN plan at the end of last year said 45 days to receive the 35000 everyday rewards promotion. But it was after less than 30 days everyone got it.

The hate for this deal is because of the Optus leak for peoples details ages ago. Plus some people in certain areas get bad internet reception from them. I always knew there'd be a lot of hate but I'm sure a few people might get some good use and savings out of it. So even if it helps out one person its still worth posting

      • I hate them because I had to pay myself for my driver's licence to be reissued after the data breach. Compensation was pointless.

Support is terrible, pricing is meh, new customers pay less than existing loyal customers. I would have to demand them give me a discount, which then runs out every 6 months.

How about this question….what makes Optus good? That you would want to go with them?

        • Ive never been with Optus for anything before. Not even back in the day for old brick mobiles. Only reason I thought I'd try them is the $150 flybuys deal. If you look at it with that, then it will be $25/month over 3 months for internet. All ISPs treat existing customers like crap. Customer service is pretty average with all companies too. I've used around 10 ISPs over the last 3-4 years. For me Superloop was the best for internet. Although I never had to use their CS. Tangerine gave me an email saying my details have been leaked along with their whole customer base. All these companies are awful. Just pick one and hope they work out ok.

  • Lots of providers doing better 6 month discounts, many of them packaged with cashback or voucher redeems that go up to $100, delivered after that same waiting period.

Given Optus' service quality and customer support, this isn't really a deal at all.

  • Seems that a renewal isn't the same as 'new'.

So I'm sitting around and will hoover up suggestions for who to rage churn to.

    • -1

Yep! I had to argue with Optus support every 6 months as their special discount runs out a d I would pay for 1 month of full price. The new customers pay less than existing customers. Makes no sense to be loyal.

To me Literally any provider is better than Optus.

      Options are pretty easy.

      More (if you have yello)
      Exetel/Leaptel

  • +1

but I pay 68 bux with superloop for the same thing

  • Rubbish company!

  • -1

I think Launtel for churning. Pay daily for as long as you need then pause. Use as a backup for free if your primary NBN goes down. Never worry about churning again.

I also think Tangerine is a good deal at 200/20 for $79 6 months then $89 pm if you forget to move. Not too much pain. Otherwise few others offer 100/20 for $64 to $69. I reckon $10 more for bit faster. Because I'm new I get 5G 150GB SIMs thrown in for 2 months free.

  • Never received my Flybuys Points from last promotion. Contacted Optus who have been useless telling me to wait a bit longer (which I did and pay another month for). It's already been 5 months. No communication from Optus since.

  • +1

Don't waste your time with Optus! I ordered this last week. Chat with them to change activation to today, told all done. Recheck with another rep yday and told all good to go tmr. Waited half day today and no msg received. Chat with another rep today and was told activation date in 2days. I need internet for work so ask if they can activate today instead. Then was told have to wait. I immediately cancel it. Sign up with superloop 100/20, $69/m, which is cheaper and line activated within 30min. Never Optus again! Bad service, those rep definitely don't know what they doing. Filed a complaint online with them, doubt will see any feedback or improvement.

  • don't forget (to sign up when) increased/upsized cashback :)

  • Is it possible to set the activation date when signing up or do you have to call/message Optus?

    • I just joined, same as OP mentioned "There was no choice to select a later date ".
mine activated at next day after applied, though missed a call from Optus not sure if possible to postpone by chat to someone.

    • Absolutely, you can definitely set the activation date. You'll need to place your order online since they can't provide the Flybuys deal over the phone. After completing your order, wait a few minutes, then call this number directly: 1300929949. That's the team responsible for confirming orders. Ask them to change the activation date. This method worked for me.

      • I was on call with them for over 2 hrs bounced desk to desk. They couldn’t change the date and ultimately had to cancel the order. Absolutely garbage in terms of support never again

  • i snoozed and loozed.
    ended up with $89/month as I couldn't find a better offer 😭
