Free to Watch - Nimona @ Netflix via YouTube

1210

Rated 7/5/10 on IMDb. Looks like a good family movie.

When a knight in a futuristic medieval world is framed for a crime he didn’t commit, the only one who can help him prove his innocence is Nimona — a mischievous teen who happens to be a shapeshifting creature he's sworn to destroy.

Typical comment from a sociopa.. nevermind.

An excellent animated film. One of the best in the past few years. An animated film that targets teens and older audiences.

    • +4

Can you specify what part of it you specifically dislike? What is the objectionable content?

    • +10

made-up male character likes another made-up male character 😭😭😭 society is crumbling, how can we ever move forward as a species

      • +1

        There's a certain irony there.

      • There are armies where being gay isn't allowed, but historically there were armies where it was damn near mandatory

Seems to be set in historical times, accurately

  • +9

It's nominated for Best Animated Feature at this year's Oscars

    • -3

That just means it ticked all the diversity ++ boxes then, since the quality or entertainment value of movies is no longer of importance to the Oscar voters.

      • +1

        How dare you….

  • +2

This is my favourite movie in years. Not for every family but my 6yo watched it.

    • -3

      didn't realise this was ozginger

      • +7

You should have really. Not noticed the ozbargain colour scheme?

        :P

    • Would you say the same thing if the protagonist was black, or Asian, or unusually small or tall? Y'know, all things that people can't change about themselves? Or does your bigotry only revolve around redheads?

  • +5

Normally I dont mind these kind of 'deals' but why is this movie being posted now? Not a new release, not rated exceptionally, not hyped. just a normal, above average movie?

should i go around picking my favorite movies from streaming sites and post them as deals?

    • +18

If your favourite movies from streaming sites get released for free on YouTube then go ahead?

      • +9

        Oh shit I'm dumb

  • +3

    Rated 7/5/10

    either rated 0.14, or 14?

    • +7

Rated 7th May 2010 or 5th July 2010, thirteen years before it was released.

    • +3

It may be good but it's no 5/7.

      • Not as good a the Dark Night then?

      • I'm saddened people have missed this reference

  • +1

Must be because no one was subscribing for their overpriced service, or the Basic plan was finally gone /s.

In all seriousness, this is quite the character change from Netflix’s perspective.

    • Maybe this is one way to get people who isn’t on netflix yet to join

      • Netflix have been giving away subscriptions for free now in about every way possible overseas for the better part of two years.

It's all in an effort to artificially raise customer numbers for investors, as the metric they use to rate shows is basically made up and in no capacity able to be tested or verified in any meaningful way.

  • +6

The animation in this is top drawer. Worth a watch for that alone.

  • +2

I missed that this is on Youtube, and not just announcing a movie being released on Netflix.
    Nice!
    Fire up that yt-dlp

    • Fire up the what?

      • Give it a Google but its essentially a tool to download youtube videos for offline watching.

        • Got it. Thanks.

I unfortunately happen to be someone who can't stand the YouTube ads, so I'm a Premium member. I don't think there's a way to block ads TVs. But if there's a way, I'm willing to try.

@BadGiraffe: SmartTube on Android TV or WebOS (LG) as mentioned. I use both but still pay for YouTube premium.

        • Idm is another good one. Been using it for years.

Enjoyed this one, good comedy bits & a good message. Very entertaining and great animation.

  • +4

enjoyed this movie quite a bit with my housemates (early-mid 20s). Animation is wonderful

  • -8

Good animation and storyline but do they have to make the protagonist gay ?? Especially since it’s a kids/teen movie

    • +10

What the big issue, can a kid not even look at a gay person without blowing up into a million tiny rainbow coloured pieces or something

      • -2

Every story and character made has a purpose so for the movie to make the protagonist to be in a homosexual relationship really makes you wonder what is the purpose of that scene/idea.

        • Because gay people exist, always have and it's okay to be gay?

People like representation in media. I'm sure you'd be very upset if there were no cisgendered heteronormative caucasian male figures in media.

Hell, even gay characters are predominantly white, because a gay Asian or a trans black person is too far away from the white hetero male normality that it blows their little minds.

    • -1

This is inspirational and ground breaking, never been done before….😜….This has to be on 99% of media for the 98% of straight people to be awaken ed to the 2% of people who identify this way…you are going to be cancelled for your outrageous views !!!!!

      • +5

Your language suggests you somehow think it's a choice. I would say you've somehow time-travelled here from the 60s and are slowly catching up, but such a feat would require research and curiousity, so I think that might cancel you out of the equation.

        • -1

          Brutal

    • +9

why should they make the protagonist straight? you want kids to watch a straight couple do exactly what gay couples are doing on screen? what's the difference?

      • -1

Why are you covering and pushing the topic and agenda of sexuality at all, in a movie for 5 and 6 year old's? Kid's that young have no capacity to even grasp what sexuality even is. The only reason why you'd be projecting that topic on them is to groom them.

        • +6

Do you make these sorts of comments on kids movies where the lead characters have an attraction to someone of the opposite sex?
          Cinderella?
          Frozen?
          Snow White?
          Sleeping Beauty?
          The Lion King?
Beauty and the Beast must make you go crazy.

          • @colblair: Serious consent issues in sleeping beauty too!

            • @UnrealMacaw: Some people will defend those old stories to their grave, but completely agree that the times have changed and those stores aren't really for modern audiences.

              • -1

@colblair: "Modern Audiences" are made up of unemployed people and the mentally ill on social media. They don't pay for entertainment and their ignorant opinions are worthless to anyone making any form of entertainment product or service, as they won't pay for or watch the end-product no matter what it is.

The sooner entertainment companies ignore them and focus on normal people, the sooner they'll return to a state of financial viability & even one day maybe even profitability again.

  • +8

I don't have an issue with characters being gay or straight or black or white but there is undeniably an overrepresentation of minorities in today's movies to align with some virtue signalling liberal agenda in America. Then they wonder why only a very small percentage of the population pays to see these movies.

    • +4

You know these companies work globally now yeah?

      • +3

thankfully some of their share prices are nose diving

    • +6

It got nominated for an Oscar and they're just creating more buzz for it, they've done this before. Only virtue signalling here is yourself over a kids movie…

      • +1

Wasn't trying to virtue signal but rather point out the disparity of representation in movies today. I guess some people find ways to be offended by everything sigh

        • +1

What representation are you talking about exactly? Do the best picture nominees suffer from this issue as well?

    • +5

Go look up who created the Nimona character, then look at the imdb rating, read some of the reviews and then see if you can work out why this movie was created.
Those who would enjoy the movie more if the only change was the character was 'straight' really are missing out on a lot.

I can enjoy a movie about doctors or lawyers without being a doctor or a lawyer.
I can enjoy a movie about soldiers, astronauts, vikings or romans without being any of those things.
What % of the world do you think make up those sorts of people?
There's a bazillion movies about superheroes and they don't exist at all… yet something like Nimona is going to cause a stir?

  • +13

    Boy kiss girl: how cute

Boy kiss boy: ARE YOU TRYING TO GROOM MY CHILDREN

  • +3

This is a great movie. I forgot that there were gay people in it, but lucky some commenters here seem to really focus in on the gayest part of any movies they see and think about those parts a lot

  • +2

Looking good. Added to my weekend's list.

One way Netflix offers a free movie to watch. First free movie I guess.

  • The only "politically correct" messaging that is shown directly in that movie is the gay couple and if that is the only thing that would stop you from watching it then you will be missing out on an actually good film with an interesting art style, future-medieval aesthetic and a good story about feeling like you "do not belong in the society" (come on, we have all been through this phase, do not (profanity) deny it!).

Now that I have watched it for free, my biggest gripe is the ending - there could have been a powerful life lesson about sacrifice and putting others' safety above yours/heroism etc. but I guess they could not have that in a "children's" movie.

Also, massive L for Disney…. they shut down the studio who started making this film because they thought it would suck and now Netflix is raking in the dough after taking it on. I love watching Disney suffer, especially with the whole Oscars thing.
