Free eSIM with 30-Day 1GB Data for 148 Countries @ BetterRoaming

312

Another eSim freebie for your collection from provider BetterRoaming. :-) 1GB of data for a period of 30 days in an impressive list of countries.

I managed to install this freebie eSim following the instructions on their homepage with my Esim.me esim for non esim Android phones card. No luck with my 5ber card (in theory same functionality as the Esim.me card but a lot cheaper) which refused installation. So… the disclaimers… YMMV obviously. And I installed this freebie from the Netherlands so I am curious if it works from Australia as well.

  • Is there any code to obtain?

    • I didn't have to input any code to install the esim and get the free 1Gb

This is the message that I received after registering the esim: https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/492616/110554/betterro…

        Thanks

      • Do you get 1GB for free automatically? when does it expire?

      • where is the free 1GB data?

        • If everything works as it worked for me, after registering the esim you will receive a text message with a unique link where you can access information about the free 1Gb and data usage.

Is there another one like Roamless with no expiry? At 5 dollar or so per gb is actually pretty good to use locally.

Currently got it in the back up phone with the amay 365 days payg for data.

Do I have to activate it straight away? I’m going to Vietnam at the end of May.

  • QR Code goes nowhere.

    • Worked for me.

      • Not on my iphone with 2 QR Code apps

    • +2

How so? That's for a 7 day SIM. This is for a 30 day SIM

  • QR code and sim installation worked well enough, thanks. There is no mention of 1GB free data allowance but it does connect to 4G.

    • but it does connect to 4G

Just keep in mind that a plan can connect to 4G even if your plan has 0 data inclusions. It could also be a case where the data has been exhausted but it still shows connected to 4G. All it really means is that there is data signal wherever you are at that point in time. It doesn't necessarily mean the eSIM includes any data.

  • I could't not see any mention of FREE 1GB data anywhere on their webiste. We could be swindled.
I'll neg this deal if no evidence of the FREE 1GB data

  • Got the esim connected but the text message has no mention of free data

    • Have you tried browsing the internet? It works for me without needing to sign up anywhere, so there is free data of some sort.

  • I scanned the QR code and successfully installed the eSIM. I received the text message, but upon clicking the link, it states that "my plans" show "no active plans." There is no option to activate the 1GB data or select the start date.

    • Same, but it connects you to 4G regardless.

      • lol, I'm planning to use this eSIM overseas in 40 days. If it's operational now, it will be invalid after 30 days.

  • Got the SMS confirmation, when you open the link, it says "no active plan", can't find anywhere it says 1 GB free.
However, it does connect to 4G, I disconnected wifi and turn-off my current sim data and set eSIM as preferred for data and test send a message on WhatsApp and it does work.
Still not sure, how much data and how long it's valid.

  • For me..

Successfully added and installed the eSIM
Phone picked up LTE/4G after turning on Data Roaming. But there's no data. I tried sending a WhatsApp message to test it and it's been stuck.

I also received a SMS welcoming me to my "free travel eSIM" in the middle of all that. Thought it might be the trigger for the WhatsApp message to be sent - but nope..!

  • @ajutrecht or anyone, i'm interested to join esim.me or 5ber, and still deciding, so I guess no rhyme or reason why this doesnt work on 5ber?
I never had either before, could I ask please, must it be definately from a QR code for the esim to be stored in esim.me or 5ber, or are there any other options like manual code, or profile download directly from your phone?

    • For 5ber you have to have a QR code

    • Indeed, 5ber takes QR-codes only, Esim.me takes manual text input as well. Although 5ber takes most of the QR-codes I throw at it, it is my impression that Esim.me is the most universal esim card. 5ber gives error codes with some esim providers. Yet Esim.me is much more expensive.

    • Thanks really appreciate this, from your experience does 5ber accept the telstra esim QR code?

Usually Telstra tells me to use their app and esim profile is download without QR code, so im investigating if telstra shop can help with QR. Or anyone know of any workarounds?

Also based on your experience with 5ber is it true the exp option you can put in 15 esims, or is this more theoretical?

      • I think you should find out of Telstra can even generate a QR code for you, because if they can't, it's not even necessary to consider whether or not 5ber will be able to take it

      • Unfortunately I cannot tell you anything about 5ber and Australian telecom providers as I live in the Netherlands. The 5ber card indeed has a maximum of 15 stored esim profiles, but I have never had more than 10 on the card at the same time.

        • I ended up ordering the 5ber card.

How do you add multiple esim profiles at the same time?

Is it possible to add them without activating them? (like 5 at once)?

          Thanks

          • +1

@movieman: Yes, you can add up to 15 esim profiles maximum. Yet only one profile can be active. There is toggles in the 5ber app to enable and disable profiles. Sometimes you have to restart your phone after switching to another esim profile. In this respect the 5ber product is bit more buggy than the Esim.me card and app.
