  • Damn you air Asia.. Booked flights a week ago between Singapore, KL and Phuket.

  • any actual details?

    • +10

If you are going to go to the effort of booking an international flight, I think you should be looking into things like time zones and the sale start time etc yourself.

      • -2

True, but the point is not whether the buyer should look up the sale times factoring in the correct time zone (which I agree, they should).
The point was made about the content of the deal and simply stating "3am" was inadequate.
Hats off to the OP for fixing it :)

    • +23

      Qantas … obviously.

      • -5

Thanks for that.I just dont know why people neg me.I never book through this website before thats why I am asking. Is that bad to ask a question???

        • +8

Air Asia is the airline - they have their own planes. (Giggidy was just having a bit of fun.)
Its a promotion for the Airline 'Air Asia'. Its not a booking website. Its been around for 10 years, & wins awards as a discount airline "Worlds Best Low Cost Airline 2009-12".

It is assumed by those negging that you would have noticed the posts, promotions, advertising, the link above with Air Asia on their planes, their award referred to, etc - so some (not me) have negged your comment. We are not all experienced, and even experienced people may misunderstand. Don't worry about it. I collect negs as well.

What sale (on Oz flights)? Not worth losing sleep over!
The current KL-Australia price is little more than a 'FREE' seat ($9.50 more on KL-GC)
      529MYR $176 ($167 if paying in MYR) KL-GoldCoast $224 GC-Kl
      459MYR $153 (Perth) $202 Perth-KL
(in travel period or not) (Booked from Malaysian site - dearer on Australian site!!)

12 days ago I bought Scoot GC-Singapore for $99 (bought at $78 a while back).
Thats $125 cheaper than AA! But is Singapore instead of KL.
Flights KL-Sin are cheap (au$19 KL-SIN, au$31 SIN-KL with AA, similar with Jetstar & others).

And Scoot's carry on is more liberal (7kg + 3KG small bag/laptop) against total of 7kg with AA. (I can get my luggage down to 10kg, but never down to 7kg for a 6+wk holiday.) That saves me another $16.66.

      • -1

Slight correction… AA allowance of hand carry is 7 kg. plus another (laptop / handbag / etc) up to another 7 kg … I fly with them all the time with laptop ..No issues .. Can feel the fun with AA sales , so good luck ..

        • "Unchecked Baggage : Passengers (except infants) are allowed two (2) items of baggage to be carried on board. The items of baggage may be a combination of any two of the following: cabin bag or a laptop bag or a handbag. The cabin bag shall not exceed the dimensions of 56cm X 36cm X 23cm and must not weigh more than 7kg. Such baggage must fit under the seat in front of you or in an enclosed storage compartment in the cabin. Items determined by us to be of excessive weight or size or of an offensive nature will not be permitted on board." http://www.airasia.com/my/en/airasiatnc.page

So you are correct about weight of cabin bag is in addition to other item - AA told me the wrong info. 7kg cabin bag plus "laptop or handbag". But weight of additional bag is not stated & would be clearly stated if 14kg total was allowed. An additional 7kg "laptop or handbag" does not seem to meet that description. Or can that be interpreted as 2 cabin bags of 7kg each?? Trouble with unclear T&C is that it up to staff on the day to interpret them.

Others have posted they have been refused to bring on second bag. It is up to AA staff on the day. A bit risky, as will charge double baggage fee if placed in hold on the day!

eg "Over-sized/over-weight/over-allowance items were taken from passengers and required to be checked.. At the counter this resulted in additional bag charges.. At the departure gate I am not sure as I did not wait to see what the outcome was." http://www.tripadvisor.com.au/ShowTopic-g1-i10702-k3589363-A…

"Unfortunately the last trip home to Australia wasn't as smooth as the others and for some reason they didn't allow any of our hand luggage on, apart from 1 small bag, it was confusing since we transited through the LCCT numerous times over the last few weeks with no problem. All our luggage was under the 7kg" drspy00 http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/80195

I have flown with AA a bit & see a lot of arguments at KL's LLCT over baggage.

          UPDATE:
I was correct - new Cabin Baggage Policy in effect 1 Dec 12!!!!
          1 Item only!

What are the rules for cabin baggage?
You are allowed ONE piece of baggage onboard.
          Size dimensions: Cabin baggage should not exceed 56cm X 36cm X 23cm
Weight restriction: not more than 7kg
Said baggage should also fit under the seat in front of you or in the overhead compartment in the cabin. The approved cabin baggage must be tagged with a cabin bag tag.

What has changed about your cabin baggage rules?
Only ONE (1) item of cabin baggage is allowed onboard the aircraft. The approved cabin baggage must be tagged with a cabin bag tag.

Has the number of pieces allowed changed?
Yes. You are only allowed ONE piece if cabin baggage weighing no more than 7kg. A laptop or small musical instrument which meets our weight and size restrictions now accounts as ONE piece.

Why are we only allowing one piece of cabin baggage?
Your safety is of utmost importance to us, for cabin safety we have limited the number of pieces and weight per guest. This restriction also means that we have a speedy embarkation and disembarkation process.

What if I was not able to get the approved cabin bag tag for my cabin baggage?
You will not be able to bring it on board. You must return to our check in counter and contact a member of our staff.

Where do I get the approved bag tag from?
You can get a bag tag from our counter staff while you are checking in at counter or performing bag drop. If you don’t need to go to the counter, make sure you get a bag tag from one of our staff before you enter immigration.

          Have the size dimensions changed?
No. The size dimensions are still the same of 56cm X 36cm X 23cm. Please note: Said baggage should also fit under the seat in front of you or in the overhead compartment in the cabin.

          Has the weight allowance changed?
No. The one piece of cabin baggage must not weigh more than 7kg.

Can I pay extra to bring more items / weight on board?
No. For cabin safety and speedy embarkation and disembarkation we will not allow more than our mentioned cabin baggage policy

What if I have expensive / highly valuable items (e.g. photography equipment worth more than RM10,000) weighing more than 7kg that I need to bring on board?
You will need to pack some items that are not expensive in your checked baggage and only pack items that are expensive/valuable in your cabin baggage and it must be within 7kg.

Can I bring my ladies’ handbag onboard in addition to my main piece of cabin baggage?
          Yes you can

Can I bring my laptop bag onboard in addition to my main piece of cabin baggage?
No, the laptop is considered as ONE piece and this would mean you are carrying TWO pieces. Either the laptop is packed to the cabin baggage and meets our weight restriction or it is the only bag carried on board.

What about shopping bags (plastic/paper bags), is it considered as one piece of cabin baggage?
Yes, any bag regardless of type is considered as one piece of cabin baggage except for items purchased at Duty Free shops.

Can I bring my suit/coat/garment bag on board in addition to my main piece of cabin baggage?
No as we have limited storage space for suit/coat/garment bags on board our aircrafts. This will be considered as ONE piece of cabin baggage and you will need to store it in the overhead locker.
          etc
          http://www.airasia.com/ask/template.do?id=580&locale=en_GB\

        • OK..Its not another "up to 7kgs". But my point is just to point out AA has the same 'liberal' weight as scoot at this point in time. Should have spent more time clarifying instead of rushing (assuming) on my last note (was on a tour holiday at that time) :)

Having just completed 7 sectors with AirAsia (within the last 3 weeks) , I didn't encounter any problems at all with laptop bag. Thanks for posting the new regulations below from the 1st Dec, but my main point originally mainly just to correct your earlier statement (until 1st dec 2012 :)) .

        • Um… my statement was based on what AirAsia told me - for this booking period. That is all that matters for this deal!

When you said what I posted was wrong (based on greater experience) I looked up the current T&C, which sort of agreed with your experience, but some travellers experiences did not support yours. I can make mistakes, so posted a correction to my statement.

Luckily I checked before I bought my flighs! Taking your advice would have made each of my flights more expensive - I would not have liked that!!

But advice based on T&C that do not apply to this deal may have led people to make decisions that will cost them extra money (double prepaid baggage fee) & cause frustration - on every leg of their trip. This is OzBargain - we like to save money.

Of course it is wise to check conditions & fees before booking.
But it is particularly difficult to find clear carry-on conditions before booking with AirAsia. (I was able to persuade Scoot to rewrite their Carry-On FAQ to make their T&C clear before Scoot started flights from Oz. That was a 'major achievement' in the complex wording used by airlines - helping travellers make an informed decision.)

        • Relax champ. Please re-read my statements again.

          • What advise did I actually give? Please clarify? I was just filling in my experience, NOT to advise anyone to carry on more luggage.

          • Your original statement said "total of 7kg with AA". So I just said slight correction to that. I never said you were 'wrong'. In fact, I appreciate your hard-work in the investigation and follow-ups. So take it easy :)

        • Your advice, while interesting & well intentioned, was not relevant for travel on this deal travel period & was misleading for those buying this deal, if they did not check it themselves.

I was surprised by the change to baggage in the cabin since I was in Malaysia 2 months back, that's why I posted about it & suggested Scoot. But I did not have the date of change, only that for my travel dates next year, Air Asia told me conditions were changed. After your post I realised my advice may be wrong. Unfortunately the only information I could find was the current baggage conditions you had discussed. Booking flights with discount carriers can be confusing enough without us adding to the confusion.

Its all about the deal on Ozbargain, not us. That's all that matters.

Now Air Asia has made their carry on conditions clear, there should be less misunderstandings, less arguments at check-in, but more expense for us.

I'm looking forward to my next Air Asia flights (Burma).
          Happy travels :)

Going by past AirAsia sales, there will be frustration, lost sleep & few if any good Oz-Kl deals.
Its mainly the Asia flights that are good value.
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/79966
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/75010
Bought my flights KL to/from Myanmar (Burma) on SALE last Sunday at $45, $66 on Monday, and down to $33 today not on sale (same travel dates)! Who knows the price tomorrow! But Taxes are $21, so may be $21.
    Oh well!

  • Sale prices are already available before sale starts.
Sale prices also available outside travel dates for flights I checked.
    So don't wait up late!

    • All I get is a blank Unavailable on all flights…

  • What a bugger, I could have done with this deal But I need it at the end of October :(

    • Sale prices on other dates as well - just search for a flight you want & check price!

  • Cheapest SYD-KL I have found is $249 out + $189 back. Any better?

    • +1

Pay in MYR from Malaysian site to get best price eg 529MYR = $168 back
(hard to find that price now, but plenty of seats at that price BEFORE sale!)
And use 28degrees Mastercard, CitiBank Plus Visa Debit etc for no forex fees.

  • Some prices have gone up since yesterday!! eg KL-Singapore
And Promo fares (outside travel dates) that were available yesterday have disappeared today.

  • Phew, I was worrying that they were going to come out cheaper than my Scoot flights to Singapore for $400 return

    • Very unlikely! Scoot is still establishing itself, so is likely to undercut AA for a while. $99 flights 13days ago.
But Scoots food is terrible from recent experience. I got it free (unopened) as others refused to eat it. But I could not stomach it, even for free! AA food was fairly good.

  • Only 1 carry-on bag (up to 7kg) plus handbag during this deal's travel period.
Changes from 1 Dec 2012. See my post above for details.
