Watch Servicing Recommendations in Melbourne

Looking for a reputable company to take my watch to get serviced in Melbourne, preferably around the CBD area. It's not a high end watch but it means the world to me - its a Tag 1887 which hasn't been serviced for quite a while.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated and would like to know what you're experiences have been.

Thanks.

  • Micheal at precision timing has done my omega speedmaster the last few times. Not cheap, but probably the one of the best around. Not many options left unfortunately.

    • Thank you, I will reach out to him

      • Fyi precision no longer service tag watches…

    Rory MacDonald at Fairfield

    • Is he any good? He seems nice, but I have never serviced with him.

      • Yes, he is - that's why I recommended

        Not cheap though

I paid $1,250 in Nov-17 for a major service on my IWC Yacht Club auto - apparently seals had turned to goop inside

Watch is now over 53 years old and still going strong

Try MigiTech, I had my Tag CV2A10 get a major service there last year. I've been told that Migitech are the only ones that have a license to get official parts from Tag Heuer. Whether that's true, i'm not sure. They did do a great job with my watch.

    • Cheers, I'll flick them and email

  • This place has good reviews. Haven't used it though.

Think I’ve used migitech for an omega quartz minor work. Haven’t tried for automatic. They seemed ok though

Pretty sure they’re not the only tag authorised service centre though.

  • Not to hijack the thread but the equivalent for perth?

  • I've always wondered when to service automatic watches.

I have one that about 11yo and has never been serviced before. Usually gains 2 minutes per month (equal to about 5 secs a day), it use to be more accurate.

Not that bad to annoy me as I usually reset it most months when I adjust the date.

What's the worst that can happen if I don't service it?

    • I've had my tag for 10 years without servicing, I've noticed over last 3 months it loosing more time then normal.

I assume the finer parts will need to be replaced over time due to wear

    • The oils dry out and parts wear. New synthetic oils are much better than the old days, but remember it’s ticking around 21600 times per hour.
Worst case, you wear out a part that makes it either impossible or uneconomical to repair the watch.

I have an omega speedmaster and they’ve been making those (in various forms) since the 1950s and still do today so parts will be fine. A tag is usually a version of an ETA movement (owned by the Swatch group like omega), so parts should be fine for that too. But rarer watches need more care.

Bob the watchmaker at 104 Russell Street has always done really solid work. Doesn't charge excessively either. I've had three watches serviced there to superb results.

    • thanks mate

unfortunately can't remember the guys' names there atm, but i've been going to Swiss Watch Service Centre on level 5 at 343 Little Collins since the turn of the century - afaik they're certified/authorised with top brands, and luxury watch shops use/recommend them
