I much prefer the "side can opener" like this:

    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006007446134.html

(you may find it cheaper elsewhere)

If you are unfamiliar with them, you can watch an explainer here:

is it me or demo on that link shows opening of an empty can?

That video was at least 16 mins too long

I purchased that one and it's horrible. Tears the can and puts little bits of tin flakes everywhere. avoid.

      • That's disappointing. Mine works great and I'm never going back to the old style can openers.

        • Are you 20, because what you linked is the "old style"..

          see: https://www.bigw.com.au/product/brilliant-basics-can-opener/…

EVERY house had this can opener.

          • @foursaken: No, what I linked it a totally different device. You didn't even look and making a comment.

        • I am very disappointed as returns to aliexpress aren't worth it when you consider the postage costs.
I should have known it was dodgy when they used an empty already opened can in the demo video

Personally, I hate this side opener business. Much prefer OP's sort

      Magican $13 never look back

      • I used like the Magican and it lasted me a long time. Then I bought a replacement, and it broke immediately. Which is why I went looking for a new can opener and found the side opening type, and it is so much better.

        • My mum has one that looks like it's from the 80s that thing still goes strong to this day. I've heard the newer ones aren't built as well / can break but @ $13 I'm currently very happy with it. If you ever see an older magican in an op shop worth picking up probably last you a life time.

          • @Budju: Yep. I agree, the old Magican was great.

Don't cans these days come with ring tabs?

    • +1

Only the rich people cans have them!

Also, sometimes the tabs break and you need to use a can opener.

The elderly and the disabled may not be able to use the tabs to open and require a can opener.

      Some do, but many don't.

This is a fantastic can opener, use it everyday to open my dog food, highly recommended.

    • Mate, I have this and can't figure out how to use it.

"Usually dispatched within one to two months"
    Righto.

$18 for a can opener. Is this the Australia tax gone crazy

    • +1

      Apparently it was $29.99!

  • Real men use a P-38 or FRED.

  • I don't know why would you cut the top of the lid off so it sinks into the can (as illustrated). Much better to cut around the outer edge.

I used something like this culinaire from ww. Currently $15.

    • You got ripped off.

Good timing, somehow ours went missing.
