GUYS I MANAGED TO GET IT TO WORK IN MINUTES HAHAHAHAHAHSHDBQWEBJ (sorry I'm just so happy). Payment proof :)

ok ok before we get too excited, as always:

Welcome to the ultimate guide of Netflix subscriptions (Nigerian Edition)

Netflix has once again rolled out a 2nd price hike for Türkiye within 4 months. I said enough is enough, and decided to explore other avenues. Decided to test the Nigerian Prince to see if he'd give in. I did encounter some errors, but somehow managed to bypass them within minutes. The result? I managed to sign up to the world's cheapest Netflix (or second cheapest, idk lol) in less than 10 minutes (without gift cards), and for the record, it was my first time trying as well. That's insane in my books. There is also no 30 day local region restriction as confirmed by myself and you guys.

This guide is the latest updated guide I've made so far (with screenshots)! Please see the statistics section below for an interesting read and show some love. Any comments, concerns, suggestions or feedback are welcome :)

  • Nigeria is the cheapest country in the world for Netflix. See plan prices below.
  • Turkey is no longer the cheapest country for a Netflix subscription on all tiers, after they keep increasing prices every few months.
    • However, obtaining a Turkey-based Netflix Gift Card is extremely easy and effortless, making it one of the easiest and therefore cheapest country to sign up with.
  • Pakistan is the cheapest country for all Netflix plans, however, obtaining a Pakistan-based Netflix Gift Card to sign up is almost impossible. Egypt is the next cheapest, but impossible to sign up for the same reason. If you have a bank card locally from these countries, feel free to sign up directly otherwise.
  • @Scrooge McDeal's post for Netflix Kenya is slightly cheaper than Netflix Turkey, however many members have had their memberships cancelled and payments refunded.

Instructions

Please read the following instructions carefully. Please review screenshots at each step if you are stuck.

  1. Activate a VPN service, turn it on and set it to Nigeria. I used Surfshark VPN (Shopback currently has 98% cashback)!

    https://my.surfshark.com

  2. Open Netflix on a new tab (not being logged in), enter your email (a new one, preferredly) and press "get started" (see screenshot):

    https://www.netflix.com/

  3. On the "Step 1 of 3" page, press "Next", then set a password. On the "Step 2 of 3" page, press "Next", then choose your desired membership plan, then press "Next". On the "Step 3 of 3" page, click "Credit or Debit Card" then enter your CC or Debit details (I used Suncorp Debit Card). Tick "I agree" then press "Start Membership". If you get a payment error, try a different Credit or Debit Card and try again.

  4. If the payment method is accepted, then the next page will be phone number verification (I'M SO SORRY I DIDN'T GET A SCREENSHOT OF THIS PAGE AS I COULDN'T GET THE PAGE AGAIN AFTER). I entered a random number in from the PingMe app and it redirected me to the next page to enter the verification code. PingMe didn't send me a code and it was dinner time so what I did was back click on the browser to the previous page (the payment page). I entered the payment debit card again and it works as expected, bringing me to a new phone verification page (or so I thought). This page (after reading it carefully) actually said "Welcome to Netflix! You've started your membership and emailed the details to [email protected], with a mobile option to set up password recovery (just ignore this). I pressed "Next" and voila - I'm now on Netflix Nigeria baby! At this stage you're done! Enjoy your membership :)

You can probably use PingMe (similar to Turkey deal) and it will still work I think. I couldn't try as I managed to bypass the phone verification step as explained above, but if anyone wants to give it a try let me know.

FAQ

Q: I just got a "Payment Declined - Update Payment Method" email from Netflix. What do I do?
A: This issue is being reported by many people who have recently signed up to Netflix Nigeria. They seem to only a few months after signing up, but once fixed, it usually does not happen again. There are two ways to get around this issue:

  1. You can contact Netflix Live Chat and enquire about the "Payment Declined" issue. Make sure you chat with your Nigerian VPN activated. If they ask, say you're in Nigeria for a holiday, or came up with another excuse. Tell them that your payment has declined and you'd like to add a new credit/debit card. They should (if not, request them to) be able to send a payment form popup directly on the chat so you can add your new payment details. If the agent refuses or has no idea what you’re trying to say, end the chat and start a new one. Once the payment is accepted, the "Payment Declined" issue shouldn't occur ever again.

  2. Log into your Netflix account and update your payment method (Nigeria phone number required). When you follow the prompts to update your payment method, Netflix will require a Nigerian number. You can use the PingMe service to obtain a Nigerian phone number for the purposes of this SMS verification. It will cost you a few dollars to buy credits for the purpose of receiving this SMS. Download the PingMe app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play store. Create an account, and recharge with "coins" (credits). 1 coin ($2.99 AUD @ App Store) is enough for 1 Netflix Nigeria SMS verification, but you can also buy 5 coins ($10 AUD @ App Store) for the price of 3 in case you need it in the future. After obtaining your coins, click on the "Verification" tab on the bottom of the app and follow this screenshot: select "Netflix" for the App/Website and "Nigeria (+234)" for the Country/Region. Proceed as per the PingMe app and use that to validate the Netflix SMS verification process.

Q: My current card expired. How do I update to a new debit/credit card?
A: See the FAQ directly above this question. If you're sticking with the same credit card account (i.e. just getting a new/replacement card against the same account), you may not have to do anything. Your Netflix account may automatically update to your new card details, due to a connection provided by Mastercard, Visa, AMEX, etc. See here and here and here for more details, thanks to @NitroJolt.

Q: How do I add Netflix Nigeria Gift Cards to my Netflix account?
A: There are no Netflix Nigeria Gift Cards available.

Q: Will I need to turn VPN on everytime I watch Netflix?
A: No! You no longer need to have VPN on every time you watch a show or movie. VPN is only required for sign up. After signing up, use Netflix without a VPN and you will have access to the Australian Netflix library.

Q: I want to watch a show/move that is only available from another region or country. Can I do this?
A: If you want to watch a show or movie that is region locked to another country, you can do so by setting your VPN on your phone, laptop or PC to that particular country to watch it. Yes, you will need a VPN service for this, and most VPN providers should work.

Q: I got charged a different rate compared to the prices on this post. What happened?
A: Due to foreign exchange rates constantly fluctuating, prices will differ by several cents each month

Q: My bank blocked my payment, what do I do?
A: Some banks block 1st attempt and then text to confirm it's you. Once you reply, 2nd attempt may work. If after several attempts it does not work, just go through the Gift Card method and avoid the pain

Q: Is signing up to Netflix Nigeria going to affect my Netflix library/catalogue?
A: After setting up this sub, you may or may not notice the Netflix catalogue may be weird with brand new shows, etc… It might not even change anything, but if it does change, your Netflix catalogue will adjust to what you’re watching and soon it will look like nothing ever happened

Q: GST/VAT and Tax related questions?
A: See here. Don't worry, there really isn't any tax you need to worry about.

Once signed up, can you change your payment method to another card?

  • Why is this post flagged as Expired?
Oh I see on page 7 of comments Nigeria is no longer working… (in addition to Turkey)

I reckon it is a bad move from Netflix by purging the Turkish/Nigerian accounts of non residents. Are they seriously expecting that the cancelled accounts holders will subscribe to the much more expensive plans of their own country that also lack content? Netflix will just lose a huge number of subscribers by making this move.

Collecting a dollar from a billion people is better than collecting $100 from a million people.

    • Absolutely! And the price they charge in Australia with no sharing outside the household doesn't represent the value you get. They've also blatantly said they'll be increasing prices multiple times in the coming months. They are canabalising themselves

    • Half the people will I reckon, sooner or later after they get over it. Plenty of other stuff to watch in the meantime whist we wait for the next hack.

  • +1

Turkish cancelled too, without any email or notification.

  • It's game over, folks. We should all move on

    • Not before we get our credit/debit card chargebacks if we haven’t done so no matter if it will be a hassle. Don’t let Netflix use this as a money grabbing opportunity.

  • Netflix are a bunch of greedy C**nts but I'm pretty sure that this will bite them on the arse in time.

I won't miss Netflix, I have only used their services a few times over the last year as I have cheap rates to Disney Plus and other services thanks to OzBargain.

Don't believe the narrative that Netflix is pushing regarding record profits and the surge in new customers.

Give it 6 months to a year and when the actual figures are released you will most likely see Netflix making record losses!

    • They should be concentrating on increasing subscriber numbers but not trying to mess with subscribers and in turn they are only digging a grave for themselves.
Like many international platforms and multimillion companies, once you have a loyal customer base in the 100’s of millions/billion, it becomes a valuable asset that you can lure all sorts of investors/advertisers. That’s how you make big money.

      • huh?

Netflix added almost 30 million subscribers in 2023 after cracking down on password sharing in May. Customers balked at the idea, but in the end Netflix prevailed

        https://www.businessinsider.com/netflix-password-sharing-cra….

reckon they care about the 1000 of us on OzBargain?
I'll get it again one day after there is nothing else to watch.

        • reckon they care about the 1000 of us on OzBargain?

Not just us. They are also clamping down internationally. Even if every single Aussie subscribed to them, it’s only like 26 million and that’s not gonna happen. We’re just a drop in the ocean.

          • @FrugalNotStingy: yes exactly.

          • +1

@FrugalNotStingy: Yep. My 6+ year old turkey account just got cancelled :(

            • @cooleagles: You've had a good 6 years of savings.

Just having a look at mine

              2016
Plan: 1 screen at a time
              Plan price: A$8.99 per month
              BR 2020 $10/month
TR since 2021, and prices have only ramped up since.

Anyway I won't get it again straight away and watch stuff on other services. NF is the obvious choice though if you were to have only one streaming service, and most people would have it.

plenty of better ways to spend my time, easy to end up watching any old crap these days.

Will miss your presence on my Tv and ipads…🤗🤗🤗

So many countries offer netflix for so cheap. If they can offer it so cheap there, why the F are we always being charged so much!?
Not only for netflix, but on lots of subs or sales. Absolute BS and seriously thinking about getting rid of netflix for that reason.

  • -1

I have to ask here, because reedit i don't have "status" to post .
If someones make a Netflix TR using gift cards.
There is a 30 day Geo lock , if after 2 , 3 months i cancell the subscription and after 1 month or 2 , i resubscribe using gift cards.
Do i get Geo lock once more? Or not?

    Thanks.

    • Yes.

      • Man that is a crap.
        They geo block it again?
Ok, better perhaps the BR gift cards, the price is a bit cheaper , plan with ads , but don't get a geo block.
Not even phone number to register

    • Why would you cancel again after all that effort?
They will probably boot you, so I'd wait and see if anyone has any success with it.

      • TO save money.
And i dont use the netflix.

        • So why are you trying to sign up to it and spent $50 on NF Gift cards, maybe I'm missing something?
Sounds like a nice challenge for you anyway :D.

You paying for Real-Debrid, which tier is best for the money?

          • @G-rig: Just watch some series and cancell it , that's it. i dont need netflix running straight for 2, 3 months.

Pros ans Cons of Netflix TR if after 1 month u cancel it , and resubscribe , 3 months latter, you got geo lock again that's a crap.
By know netflix BR basic plan with ads is cheaper , don't need phone to register, and you won't get geo lock, downside is only ads countries . But well you can cancel it get back and wont geo lock you.
I remember a time netflix TR was cheap.

Real debrid , you can set Stremio , and Kodi with it. And is blazing fast even faster than netflix..
Debrid , is cheaper and i think it satisfies the majority of people. Why u don't try it for a month. And see it?

            • @Peterrav: Yes no need to have Netflix for 12 months of the year if there isn't much to watch - I agree and have said this before as well. Needing a TR bpn on and all that is too hard. I would just do the Aus one in that case (and still saving over the year if deactivate).

No guarantees they won't block you on Brazil either.

Yes I've started setting it up, which tier of RD did you go with/recommend?

May be a good rest, I was watching house of ninjas in 4k Atmos, can you see that one?

              • @G-rig: The Brazil i'm talking about is using gift cards also.
Not a credit card, or else is gonna be blocking also.
If they would not block Netflix TR after resubscribing with gift cards, 3 months latter, would compensate , but they will geo block it again for 1 month. If you buy the BR gift cards , the basic plan , is pretty much the same cost as TR gift cards. Won't ask phone number to register , and not geo lock. But is the plan with ads (downside)
So for watching just 1 month or 2 , is better.
What you mean tear RD? I just set up , in stremio , is called. Torrentio RD , the api key you just put on the configuration if u wanna watch on Kodi , is a addon called The Crew . You got a chrome extension to download the links of RD, but still have to see it working.
                And that's it.
In therms of speed is better than netflix even.

                • @Peterrav: Pointless wouldn't worry about gift cards either. Not sure why you are if the torrents are so good.

                  Was asking about RD.
                  There are three pricing options.
                  Ta will check it out.

                  • @G-rig: Just try it for 1 month see if what feets ur needs.

                    • @Peterrav: Yes may as well finish testing it out. Sounds a little bit more secure with the paid RD having built in VPNs, and sounds like it all runs within stremio. Bit wild manually searching on torrent sites, you wouldn't want to click on anything except the magnetic link.

                      €4.00 = 30 days ($6.63)
                      €9.00 = 90 days (~$15 = $60/y)

Ps. Was midway signing up on NF BR, I've had it before and was going to use the same ccard. Wonder if they would boot you off again (with or without doing the 30 day geo-lock)

Edit: funny how everyone is up in arms about AU pricing when BR is only $6 less per month (1.5 coffees). Ain't $10 anymore.
I get it though, the fun is in the hack/challenge.

                      • @G-rig: No on stremio and kodi , is not necessary , to download using RD.
It streams straight :) , just will depend on speed of net.

About Netflix BR , same thing credit card will be removed and also plan deactivated.
But there are Netflix Br cards, doesn't have geo lock, and no mobile number to confirm account.
If netflix TR card still work, I guess BR gift card would work either (until they removed that option too :(.
There are some BR sites, that sell BR gift card at the same cost, or slightly expensive .

                    • @Peterrav: All set up, it integrates quite well and that reddit guide is great.

I installed Stremio on the PC, and all the addons are installed on the Google TV as well.

Whoever said it is faster than Netflix is on drugs, however it is pretty good overall on the Google TV. Just have to allow some time to cache and catch up when first playing (tested Halo in 4k). I was expecting you'd have to download manually first instead of streaming the files directly :).

                      • @G-rig: I do think is faster than netflix, just click on arrow behind to see it, sometimes netflix gets working to 99% and takes ages.

You install the subtitles addon (If you want) and configure on Stremio , set with torrentio RD , and ur good to go:).

                        • @Peterrav: Yeah, I have installed everything as per the reddit guide, will test it out more tonight :)
Subtitles remain as one of the ones you don't uninstall from Stremio.
Once it's playing it's as fast perhaps, not the rest of the process starting a vid.

It's handy to watch those titles that are pretty new, and would otherwise have to buy.

                          • @G-rig: What is the link to the reddit guide? Someone in the US told me to look into RD ages ago but I never got around to it.

                              • @G-rig: Just to see all these streaming companies policies,
I had 1 free month US amazon prime subscription they offer me one more month :) .
Disney + trick via turkey (they won't care about it).

                                And so one.
And Netflix. well No you have to pay the price in your country.

Well i guess Netflix only problem is that main revenue is from streaming.

                                • @Peterrav: Yes and they are kind of the biggest streamer and have become a household name so that can charge whatever they want. Bit rude all the price increases.

Anyway this new setup has been great.

My first Apple TV+ trial is up on 3/03 and will be able to setup the new 2 month trial after that just before the new promo ends. Always other options so don't mind having a break from it.

                              • @G-rig: Hi G-rig, thank you very much. Appreciate it. Will give it a go. Definitely not going to bother with another Netflix subscription.
How are you finding the RD setup? Does it have most of the content you want to watch?

Just did it now and it’s still working

  • I have been blocked the second time today, and no refund yet.
Luckily I have finished DTS season 6 yesterday…

  • +1

I signed up for this before it expired. It only lasted a few days before I got the notification that account expired. So I signed up again and paid for the charges to give it another go. Nope it expired. Anyone run into this issue?

    • Yup same thing happened to me

  • You need to do a chargeback, if u want your refund. I asked on livechat they will not issue anyone with refund since they remove ur CC details when they remove your account.

    • -1

Don't understand why removing CC details means they can't refund

Does that mean if you pay cash for something you are never entitled to a refund because your payment details were never taken…?

      • Livechat requested i do a chargeback since they dont have my CC on record.

  • anyone able to get netflix to give them a refund, or going to chargeback on their credit card? I'm with WISE, so probably too much of a pain to try and get my ten bucks back - I know we were all doing something a bit sketchy, but it still feels wrong netflix robbed us back,!

    • Requesting a chargeback with Wise isn’t difficult at all. I asked them for a chargeback a couple of years ago on a small transaction and it took them a short time to process.

    • I didn't get a refund when my Turkey plan was cancelled. I did a chargeback request with Latitude 28 Degrees and received a refund in about a month. Took me about 2 minutes to get a $10 refund. But I would have spent an hour to get it because fk Netflix lol

      • I didn't bother it cost about $1 a day for the 10 days I used it.
        This is Ozbargain though, 🤣.

        • You paid more than Australian prices at that rate 😂

          • @nicholasv: No point being too much of a tight Kent and wasting time on it , have saved hundreds and am saving a lot more with Stremio+RD.

People on here go bananas for 1 or 2 dollars though.

  • I was on Türkiye, but it got cancelled.
When I tried to login on Türkiye VPN, it showed incorrect credentials. I then tried forgot password without VPN connected and opened the password reset link after connecting to Türkiye again. I reset the password and then was able to login.
Tried talking to support to reactivate it but I needed to provide Türkiye phone number.
I was unaware of the Back & Forward trick, so I ended up giving up on it.
However, Support did process the refund though! Hope I get it in a few days.

I then found this post and gave it a try using the same Türkiye account.
This also asked me to enter phone number, but I tried Back and Forward method (as motioned in the description) a couple of times.
HSBC then sent me a text message to confirm the transaction and after that I was on the "Welcome" screen!!!
Not sure how long this would last!

    Thanks OP!

Read the comments, there's a reason this deal is marked as expired

People were able to successfully create and pay for a month of service but then after a few days people's accounts got locked out and lost membership.

      • my account is still active and its been almost 2 weeks

        • Which country ?

        • Nigeria? What is your payment method?

          • @CodeXD: Yep Nigeria, and i used my commbank credit card, also have my AU mobile number on the account.

I've only ever logged into the account however with Nigeria VPN, and will do so for the first 2 months

    • ppl not sure why the problem about it.

You already know credit cards won't work , or function for long.

      Just use gift cards.
You have sites that sell GC for almost the same price, so don't bother try to enter CC.

Gift cards work until now. let«s see.

  • Going back to the salty waters. I used to use a paid service back on the day with iinet. It was like torrenting but I remember it as overnet. It was way better than torrenting. I've googled it and it's not it. Does anyone have any idea what I'm talking about. Please DM me.

Do u mean "usenet" like www.newshosting.com.
I think most people will be turning to being pirates once more and sailing the seas.

      • that's the one, usenet! It's been years but I was struggling to find certain things on current torrent sites. Much appreciated!

        • Have a look at Stremio & Real Debrid if you just want to stream things

I remember a time when certain isp's (Internode ) offered free usenet accounts Those were the days

The first month it worked fine. Now that the payment is due again it stopped working and asked me to pay Aussie prices. All that work for nothing. Im back where I started

  • They cancelled mine in just few days… NETFLIX bait urgggh

  • My Nigeria account is still active, maybe I'm in NZ?

  • Just logged on to discover my account is cancelled. Bankwest CC was removed. Support refused to give me a refund. Billing period ended 10/3/24. Was nice 'living' in Turkey. They're cracked if they think I'm paying full AUD price for it. Back to the high seas I go.

    • Support refused to give me a refund.

      Call your bank to dispute.

    • I'm sure you saved a lot over that time :l

      • I received chargeback + Netflix refunded me, just need a few mins online chat.

  • Asked Revolut to do a charge back and they said no…hmmm

  • Got the Turkish acc a few days ago and it worked fine. Now I am getting this message: account cant be used in this location. Any way I can get around this or is it game over now?

    • When it worked fine a few days ago was it via Turkey VPN?

This is normal for new turkey netflix sign up and mentioned in the netflix turkey deal page, ctrl+f FAQ and it is the first question listed

They will cancel you after a period of time.

  • Sooo… is this working now?

    • 9 pages of goodness. It doesn't look like it, unless

      a) you use the country's gift cards; and
      b) stay region locked whilst using the service or logging in from anywhere.

Waste of time but I'd give it another month or two to see if those people get cancelled.
Too much of an inconvenience anyway.

      • If using gift cards, does it stay region locked the whole time, or just the 30 days still, or does no one know yet?

        • No one knows.
          I've come.moved on lol

    • Nah

  • Still seems to be working for me. I used the Crypto card issued in Singapore.

  • I wanted to ask if anyone knows, if getting the AU Netflix, can you change regions with a VPN (to access other region's libraries) if it's on the same user profile and no-one else is using the account, or is this still classified as account sharing?

    • +1

      that should be fine.

      • Thanks. I was able to do this with the Turkish account, but I thought I was only able to do it because they don't have the sharing rule in place.

Can anyone explain how they detect accounts are being shared? I thought the VPN switching to different regions like I do might set their account sharing algorithm off.

Do they still allow you to use it if you legitimately travel overseas and there is still people at home using it?

  • Mine is still working. Its a netflix mobile plan that i havent used yet. I just set it up to see if it will get cancelled.
    Second payment just went through.

    • Yep same, my second payment went through although I never used it in the past 30 days. I’ve already moved onto Streamio but will try using it from tomorrow and see if it gets cancelled

      • Lemme know if they do.
Im planning on keeping it parked for 6 months, then adding australia to countries visited

        • What does "parking" do? I don't remember seeing this option.

        • Have been using it for the past month without VPN. No issues and just got charged again for next month. Feel like they will catch on in a few months but until then I’ll just keep on using it. I have Streamio + RD to fall back on anyway.
