GUYS I MANAGED TO GET IT TO WORK IN MINUTES HAHAHAHAHAHSHDBQWEBJ (sorry I'm just so happy). Payment proof :)

ok ok before we get too excited, as always:

Welcome to the ultimate guide of Netflix subscriptions (Nigerian Edition)

Netflix has once again rolled out a 2nd price hike for Türkiye within 4 months. I said enough is enough, and decided to explore other avenues. Decided to test the Nigerian Prince to see if he'd give in. I did encounter some errors, but somehow managed to bypass them within minutes. The result? I managed to sign up to the world's cheapest Netflix (or second cheapest, idk lol) in less than 10 minutes (without gift cards), and for the record, it was my first time trying as well. That's insane in my books. There is also no 30 day local region restriction as confirmed by myself and you guys.

This guide is the latest updated guide I've made so far (with screenshots)! Please see the statistics section below for an interesting read and show some love. Any comments, concerns, suggestions or feedback are welcome :)

  • Nigeria is the cheapest country in the world for Netflix. See plan prices below.
  • Turkey is no longer the cheapest country for a Netflix subscription on all tiers, after they keep increasing prices every few months.
    • However, obtaining a Turkey-based Netflix Gift Card is extremely easy and effortless, making it one of the easiest and therefore cheapest country to sign up with.
  • Pakistan is the cheapest country for all Netflix plans, however, obtaining a Pakistan-based Netflix Gift Card to sign up is almost impossible. Egypt is the next cheapest, but impossible to sign up for the same reason. If you have a bank card locally from these countries, feel free to sign up directly otherwise.
  • @Scrooge McDeal's post for Netflix Kenya is slightly cheaper than Netflix Turkey, however many members have had their memberships cancelled and payments refunded.

Instructions

Please read the following instructions carefully. Please review screenshots at each step if you are stuck.

  1. Activate a VPN service, turn it on and set it to Nigeria. I used Surfshark VPN (Shopback currently has 98% cashback)!

    https://my.surfshark.com

  2. Open Netflix on a new tab (not being logged in), enter your email (a new one, preferredly) and press "get started" (see screenshot):

    https://www.netflix.com/

  3. On the "Step 1 of 3" page, press "Next", then set a password. On the "Step 2 of 3" page, press "Next", then choose your desired membership plan, then press "Next". On the "Step 3 of 3" page, click "Credit or Debit Card" then enter your CC or Debit details (I used Suncorp Debit Card). Tick "I agree" then press "Start Membership". If you get a payment error, try a different Credit or Debit Card and try again.

  4. If the payment method is accepted, then the next page will be phone number verification (I'M SO SORRY I DIDN'T GET A SCREENSHOT OF THIS PAGE AS I COULDN'T GET THE PAGE AGAIN AFTER). I entered a random number in from the PingMe app and it redirected me to the next page to enter the verification code. PingMe didn't send me a code and it was dinner time so what I did was back click on the browser to the previous page (the payment page). I entered the payment debit card again and it works as expected, bringing me to a new phone verification page (or so I thought). This page (after reading it carefully) actually said "Welcome to Netflix! You've started your membership and emailed the details to [email protected], with a mobile option to set up password recovery (just ignore this). I pressed "Next" and voila - I'm now on Netflix Nigeria baby! At this stage you're done! Enjoy your membership :)

You can probably use PingMe (similar to Turkey deal) and it will still work I think. I couldn't try as I managed to bypass the phone verification step as explained above, but if anyone wants to give it a try let me know.

FAQ

Q: I just got a "Payment Declined - Update Payment Method" email from Netflix. What do I do?
A: This issue is being reported by many people who have recently signed up to Netflix Nigeria. They seem to only a few months after signing up, but once fixed, it usually does not happen again. There are two ways to get around this issue:

  1. You can contact Netflix Live Chat and enquire about the "Payment Declined" issue. Make sure you chat with your Nigerian VPN activated. If they ask, say you're in Nigeria for a holiday, or came up with another excuse. Tell them that your payment has declined and you'd like to add a new credit/debit card. They should (if not, request them to) be able to send a payment form popup directly on the chat so you can add your new payment details. If the agent refuses or has no idea what you’re trying to say, end the chat and start a new one. Once the payment is accepted, the "Payment Declined" issue shouldn't occur ever again.

  2. Log into your Netflix account and update your payment method (Nigeria phone number required). When you follow the prompts to update your payment method, Netflix will require a Nigerian number. You can use the PingMe service to obtain a Nigerian phone number for the purposes of this SMS verification. It will cost you a few dollars to buy credits for the purpose of receiving this SMS. Download the PingMe app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play store. Create an account, and recharge with "coins" (credits). 1 coin ($2.99 AUD @ App Store) is enough for 1 Netflix Nigeria SMS verification, but you can also buy 5 coins ($10 AUD @ App Store) for the price of 3 in case you need it in the future. After obtaining your coins, click on the "Verification" tab on the bottom of the app and follow this screenshot: select "Netflix" for the App/Website and "Nigeria (+234)" for the Country/Region. Proceed as per the PingMe app and use that to validate the Netflix SMS verification process.

Q: My current card expired. How do I update to a new debit/credit card?
A: See the FAQ directly above this question. If you're sticking with the same credit card account (i.e. just getting a new/replacement card against the same account), you may not have to do anything. Your Netflix account may automatically update to your new card details, due to a connection provided by Mastercard, Visa, AMEX, etc. See here and here and here for more details, thanks to @NitroJolt.

Q: How do I add Netflix Nigeria Gift Cards to my Netflix account?
A: There are no Netflix Nigeria Gift Cards available.

Q: Will I need to turn VPN on everytime I watch Netflix?
A: No! You no longer need to have VPN on every time you watch a show or movie. VPN is only required for sign up. After signing up, use Netflix without a VPN and you will have access to the Australian Netflix library.

Q: I want to watch a show/move that is only available from another region or country. Can I do this?
A: If you want to watch a show or movie that is region locked to another country, you can do so by setting your VPN on your phone, laptop or PC to that particular country to watch it. Yes, you will need a VPN service for this, and most VPN providers should work.

Q: I got charged a different rate compared to the prices on this post. What happened?
A: Due to foreign exchange rates constantly fluctuating, prices will differ by several cents each month

Q: My bank blocked my payment, what do I do?
A: Some banks block 1st attempt and then text to confirm it's you. Once you reply, 2nd attempt may work. If after several attempts it does not work, just go through the Gift Card method and avoid the pain

Q: Is signing up to Netflix Nigeria going to affect my Netflix library/catalogue?
A: After setting up this sub, you may or may not notice the Netflix catalogue may be weird with brand new shows, etc… It might not even change anything, but if it does change, your Netflix catalogue will adjust to what you’re watching and soon it will look like nothing ever happened

Q: GST/VAT and Tax related questions?
A: See here. Don't worry, there really isn't any tax you need to worry about.

On Turkey NF, Was in middle of watching Avatar…
    “Error.
Sorry this account is no longer active. Please sign up again or sign in to a different account.”

    😭 party over ???

    • +1

I am here to say this.. I got the same error message just now on Turkey account.

    • Better to not mess with it once it's working

      • +1

I didnt mess anything on my TR acc, didnt even jump on board this deal. Go check your own TR acc if u got any.

        • +2

Yep me too. Back to the high seas

        • Oh right, all this has probably pricked them up about it though, and probably having a round of crack downs.

Payment has been taken out this month already, but signed up quite a while ago. Hopefully remains unaffected.

Isn't Aus only $22/m anyway? Only 2x the cost of turkey now, but the $5-7/month days were good. Just swap a spot with someone else for another streaming service.

    • Yes same happened to my Turkey account too, although funnily enough my Nigeria account is still active

  • Erdoğan caught you with your hand in the cookie jar.

  • +2

Tukey account being running for over a year - kaput an hour ago for membership and want me to sign back up.
They took $$ out on the 19th for Turkey Netflix
Going to have to do a chargeback I think.

    • same thing happened. now i can't find a way to get a turkey phone number. pingme doesn't have turkish numbers for netflix anymore. any ideas?

      • +2

probably would't bother, got booted from Nigeria, signed up again & booted 1 day later, charged twice, if you do resign choose the cheapest option, they''ve got some new funky tech, this is war

        • +1

ah damn. alright i'll wait see if other ppl have some other suggestions or workarounds. Aus subscription is too expensive

          • @yayo321: Agree, think if there is no way of getting cheap Netflix again, best way is to rotate streaming services month to month, 1 month Netflix, then binge, Stan etc.. fck being loyal year around content isn’t that great

            • +1

@RogueWolf: agree netflix's content not good anymore and defintely not worth the price in AUD

            • +1

@RogueWolf: Exactly, people shouldn't feel locked in and complain about price. Easy to cancel and rejoin anytime. Agree that each service isn't great 100% of the time. Just rotate a few.

Turkey is hardly cheap anymore either at half the price.

        • War for who? ehehhe

  • +6

Turkey account cancelled. Time to hoist the sails. 🤷

    • +1

      Ha, back to 2008..
That's very tedious if you want to watch something and finding them to start with, none of those sites really work anymore and filled with banners and spyware.

Wouldn't you just look at that Plex membership?

Anything but pay, people's cut off must be about $11.50/month spend, $22 too much.

      • Current member of a private fleet of fellow seafarers so it's not too bad for me. It's mostly just the effort of getting it onto USB and plugging it into the TV that sucks, I wonder if there's an easier way?

Yeah you're right, I don't value Netflix enough to go over that cut off of around $11.50 that you mentioned. Have been watching it less and less over the years anyways.

        • +1

I think it is alright if you don't pay for any other streaming, a lot of people would have 3 or 4 etc and be hard pressed watching it all. Can always binge a few series etc then rotate different services.

Maybe look at Plex pass next time it's on sale, never that cheap either these days.

2 month apple tv+ trial has been good, plenty on YouTube and catchup anyway.

        • +2

Map a network drive in Kodi on googletv/shield to whereever your storage is (PC, NAS etc). Or similar via Plex/Emby etc. No need for USB sticks.

      • No more tedious than its ever been. If that's how Netflix want to roll, so be it.

        • Used to be heaps more torrent sites and content, didn't they shut most down sites 14y ago?I had a look a year or two ago couldn't find much.

Point is, looking for and setting up a download, waiting for it, copying to USB or casting to tv is more tedious than streaming I would have thought. Most people will just settle for 1080p again, unless 4k +Atmos content is the norm on the uploalads.

$23 a month isn't bad but adding $7 spots outside the house is a bit much, wondering if limited for 4 streams at once still

          • +1

@G-rig: They might push that narrative in the media, but not really. If you use DNS from your ISP your probably getting filtered access to the internet and not seeing certain sites. I mean this respectfully, but sounds like your a little out of the loop when it comes to the high seas and how convenient some of the options are such whether manually or via RD / similar.

Netflix price these days, with all the restrictions, is just bad value. So much Junk its been getting worse every year. I only kept it for the Ms and sharing with 2 other very mild users. That's OK, im fine to give them no money at all.

            • +1

@Xizor: No, as I said I haven't even googled those pirate sites for over 10y. Everyone is a bit coy about them obviously.

That's fair, everyone can decide if it's going value or not. As I said earlier if you're not paying every month then it's not bad - just rotate a few services no need to have them all at once. They way people are carrying on you'd think it was a much bigger sum of money (and probably buy coffee out every day).

              • +2

@G-rig: Buy coffee out? Never! Even bigger rort!

                • @Xizor: Glad we agree on that.

Would be fun copying movies to a portable HDD again and hoarding stuff like 15y ago.. your time is with something.

                  • @G-rig: Much easier and quicker ways these days, but sure that still works.

                    • @Xizor: Go on.. easier than streaming from an app on Google TV?

I know but all involves effort and/or cost.
                      - I don't have a Nas (never been cheap to set up)
                      - would have to leave PC on to cast with vlc and dumb controls.

                      • Kodi and HDD prob nicest to use. Don't have Plex pass
                      • @G-rig: A HDD plugged into the router can work as a basic network attached file share. Or you can map a network path to a PC on the same LAN.

Plex/Kodi you map to that share path. There you have it, streaming from an app on Google TV.

Plex pass is not required, that's more for remote network viewing (i.e. on your mobile when away from home). But there are other apps.. VLC, Emby, and so forth.

          • +2

@G-rig: Everything is available in 4k Atmos these days. And who on earth still uses USB drives when NAS is so easy?

            • @atlas: Who even uses a Nas these days, everyone was into those back when torrents first came out lol.

              How big are the files..
Easy but not cheap. Price me up one..!
Always be running out of space too again.

That's a lot old-school and stubborn than streaming.

              • @G-rig: A great many people, as there are many types of network attached storage. It does not need to be a separate mini pc type thing.

It can be cheap, it can be expensive. Just like subscriptions its choice how many, how long etc. it all adds up.

Running out of space? Delete mate :)

Old school stuff evolves, there are newer ways, options within options. It's a big big world out there :)

                • @Xizor: Lol yes mate and it's evolved to streaming and online cloud storage and sync.

I am aware of all of my options but usually too clunky and or expensive (and too much effort when you can just evolve and stream.

                  A synology ds423+ = $780 (ds224+ $500)..
                  plus a few hundred for 2x 12TB

GTV cannot add additional storage reliably.
Not leaving PC on all the time just for streaming..
                  Etc.

Netflix isn't even a great deal of money and most people have it (and haven't even been getting cheap VPN prices, so consider it a saving to date). As I said I wouldn't bother paying for too many services (just Netflix, tidal, Amazon for deliveries- free prime, not bad). Swapped NF for Stan etc.

Easy to wait till there is enough decent content, binge it including trials, there are no lock in contracts so no need to feel locked in for the whole year. Site

              • @G-rig: Mate NAS in this day and age has so much more utility than just downloading. Local backups of data like photos, security camera recording, private cloud storage, and of course media management.

Yes it's true it takes time and some money investment at the beginning but it's generally a set and forget affair. I login and tell the server what shows or movies I want, and it goes and finds them. When they're available (generally earlier than streaming services), it will download automatically and I just fire up Kodi or Plex on any of my devices. A 10-20gig rip with NBN these days will download in minutes.

If you want a simple setup, you could use any of the refurbed mini PCs that get posted here for like $1-200 and add a USB drive. Generally I think 14tb is about $2-300 on special?

                • @atlas: Yeah may have to revisit the idea sometime, could be an excuse for some tax deductions before eofy.

Don't need old PC's running all day just incase I want to watch the odd thing so Nas is best.
To be honest I don't need much of a setup, already got online storage (google) and have cloud services (OD) for various work places. Don't have cameras.

Will still probably have Netflix though. Most people would choose that if they were paying for any. Can certainly live without it for a month or three, plenty of other stuff on the other services (and sick it to them for a while).

  • +2

Like a few others here my Turkish account got cancelled. Looks like its back to the old way of getting the shows i want to watch.

  • Turkish account got cancelled and redirects me to sign up screen :-) bye bye netfilx

  • +1

The same here - it was a good run

  • +1

yes Turkish running for long time and just stopped working this morning.
Looking at the AUS pricing, if you want to share with 1 other person not in your house then it's $7.99 for an extra member.
    https://help.netflix.com/en/node/24926

  • +2

    Same Turkey account kicked RIP

  • +1

It would seem the party is over everywhere

    • Hmm just checked mine too, that sucks.
Doubt they would refund remaining monthly membership.

What's the go with extra slots, can it tell not on same network for sharing?

      • +1

same happened here. I've initiated a chargeback via credit card for the month as a final FU to netflix.

        • I should do that too, they could have let us finish the month that's paid for already. did you have to call the back?

  • Got booted from my Turkish account that I've had for a year or so. Sad :(.

  • My Turkey account that I have since 2021 is still active probably because I rarely watch anything. Maybe as soon as I start watching something it will go kaput.

  • +3

My Turkish account after so many years has finally got cancelled. Pretty annoying when the kids were about to watch something.
Was about to come on here to start being a Nigerian prince but looks like thats over too

    • Yeah, bummer, am the same, was fine last night but now asks to sign up again. Similar to issue with Nigeria one.
My Turkey one was totally separate *Name, Email, Address, Payment" so doubt it is related and suspect Netflix have now reached to updating/auditing the Turkey Servers and kicked out all foreign subscribers?.

  • Can I still share Netflix Australia within the same city? Some said the restricted it by IP and have to login to same IP every 30 days but not everybody have static Public IP address.

    • No, Sharing is not permitted (as such). The IP is based on the Primary accounts household IP address. One needs to check back into that house once a month. Fine if close by and just using a PC or phone, but would be a tad hard if using a TV as you would need to bring it to the subscribing house once a month.

      • Was wondering that too, sounds like they've got it sussed.

Better if it just sent a code to the tv like Amazon and the original account holder logs in online.

Once a month isn't too bad, but annoying. A CCwGTV is easily portable.

Couldn't you set it up initially hot spotting your phone and do it that way?

      • The IP is based on the Primary accounts household IP address

You mean Public IP address? But how people with about dynamic IP? or not even have an IP like CGNAT?

        • To be honest, not sure how they exactly do it. It is based on a few things I believe and (from memory), is partially based on the Primary device IP and not so much on a static IP. There is a read me somewhere that explains it but can't find it as I type this. Others here I am sure can explain in more detail?

          • @Borg: My friend still sharing the account between Hong Kong and Australia.

      • I'm sharing netflix with my neighbour. I had to connect to her wifi once or twice to add my TVs to her household but that was last year, haven't connected since

  • I'd probably pay for single screen 4k if they ever did that.

    • +3

Same only one screen here and I want 4k

      • Yeah I hate that they lock 4K to their premium tier!

      • Nice if they had that option for sure.

What is the max number of 'extra member spots for outside the house'? Assume it's in addition to 4 simultaneous streams.

Others may be happy to pay $10/m perhaps to subsidize it?

        Edit: max two additional members
        https://help.netflix.com/en/node/123279#:~:text=Netflix%20me….

        • ps. People in other households having to check in every 30 days with their devices to connect to your LAN sounds like a pain. Although one mam member only uses a phone+notebook so maybe.

          • +1

@G-rig: If you trust the other ppl you share with, setup a vpn on your router where main Netflix location is, and ask them to connect to it for a few hours each month. That should sort it.

Public IP will be the same once on that vpn

  • +2

Turkey account held for few years got booted too, funny though I'm now streaming on my Nigeria account with VPN to keep it active for now, catalogue is kind of lackluster compared to Australia

    • Is Nigerian account still working for you?

      • +1

Yes its still working, however I dont see how it can survive given the state of things

        • Yeah mine got blocked twice! Lost $4 each time.

Moved to Stremio now, pretty good so far.

  • Just checked my CC Netflix payment, on 15Jan still from NETFLIX.COM Amsterdam and on 13 Feb changed to Netflix.com Los Gatos

  • Well it was a good run until the next smart person figures out how we can work around it?

Out of curiosity - if I kept watching using a VPN, would I still have account lost or would they have disabled all accounts with non turkish payments?

    • netflix cookies :))

  • Just noticed my Turkish account bit the dust this morning and no easy way of sharing a sub, going to fire up the old torrent engine

    • Yeah not worth being the account holder and paying 7$ extra as well to share a spot as people won't want to pay more than that say $10 anyway. The alternative is too inconvenient bringing their devices around every month.

Just easier to cycle them once there is enough stuff to watch.

Ps. Wouldn't you just Hotspot your phone and set up your own devices using that when setting it up. Then could take your phone to other family members not living in same place for other members?

  • +2

kids just started complaining netflix ain't working - back to the seven seas

  • 🥲

  • Yep here, Netflix Turkey account got cancelled even though I have already pay up til March.

  • My turkish account has been cancelled today had it since Oct 2021 it was good while it lasted. Any new solutions?

  • Lol. GL netflix. Stremio gets more use now.

    • I tried downloading stremio - seems like it just forwards you to other streaming sites?

      How does it work?

        • Wow just tried it - very impressed. Thanks.

        • US$33/y?

Looks like an interesting setup, so have they automated the torrent finding or do you have to go and check a few sites manually and cueue them all up like the old days?

          • @G-rig: It's all handled via a pretty slick frontend so is seamless. Just search for what you want and your are presented with the all the available torrents. Choose one and it streams via an inbuilt player. Addittionally there are community made addons which present new and trending/popular movies/shows from all the streaming platforms.

            • @Jordyn11: Sounds almost as good as Plex Pass haha.

cool mate have had a quick look - Seems Stremio is available for Google CCwGTV, would have to stream from PC for now and all that. I don't bother with the smart TV's clunky androidTV interface and changing inputs, but could do and just plug a HDD in.

Sounds a little more modern at least (the last thing i recall 15y ago was having to search the usual sites manually 1337x, TPB etc. Galaxy sounds ok - all illegal of course). Deleted all my 720p rips and 1080p even looks pretty average these days, bit of a flashback lol.

              did a search 4k dolby atmos - 12 results - 3 dead, 1 seeder 10 leachers lol

              • @G-rig: The other thing with this is that you dont need local storage as it streams directly via debrid and can even handle 4k HDR/DV as long as you have the bandwidth obviously. I actually totally got rid of my collection of linux isos (haha) after discovering this as it much less to maintain even though I did have it mostly automated with Sonarr/Radarr. Now I have a stack high cpacity paperweights, lol.

                • @Jordyn11: Nice setup, agreed streaming is ideal with cached files

I have 1x 12TB 3.5" in the pc box anyway for general storage that isn't accessed often but SSD / M.2 for OS and working Data (apps/OneDrive/games). I've always like the idea of a NAS just always been in the too hard basket.
Running a Raspberry Pi4 as a music streamer and it's brilliant (with Volumio).

I can't even give away some old 500Gb drives sitting in a box but don't want to put in the wheelie bin.

            • @Jordyn11: Do you know the names of those addons?

              • @Nalar: Cyberflix Catalog. Note that it is currently going through some maintenance so has been up and downm over the past few days. Also another tip is the I found that it is much easier to browse and manage addons via the Desktop app than the android version.

                Streaming Catalogs is another one.

  • forget Netflix, get some Real debrid , and that's it…
Is up to them , they lose.

OMFG, on Turkey premium plan, last payment made 8th Feb and service got cancelled on 24th.

Reached out to customer support, initially was told yes no problem will get the last payment refunded. After checking my details, she said my account was cancelled due to suspicious activity, and the grace period for refund has passed and said there is no way to refund my payment. As I was typing a reply, she went full generic mode "is there anything else I can assist you with today?", "hope you have a nice day" and basically ended the conversation without waiting for my reply wtfff

Feel like Netflix has put a tag against customers such as myself for being cheap arse and gaming the system, and instruction to customer support is to perhaps ignore customers and move on.

the funny thing is, they're counting on people not charging back to scoop up those fee's. But I suggest everyone chargeback as it costs netflix money onto of the refund.

      • I use revolut to pay for Netflix turkey. Looks like I've passed the period to do a chargeback so not sure what else to do

        • Just don't worry and get the apple tv trial.
Then pay for NF when there is enough stuff to watch.

Same here. Went to watch something and asking me to sign back up. Was good while it lasted. Don't think I'll try another country for a bit and see how things go for others.

    • I had the same but the customer support told me to go to my financial institution and seek a refund, so I have a raise a transaction dispute with them that I did not receive the service since Netflix cancelled my membership.

  • Was able to sign up to Nigeria with my cancelled Turkish account, will see how long it lasts!

    • Still working?

      • +2

        Lol nope

        • What happened, did you get the same "you membership got cancelled" message or?
Also curious if they banned you on the second attempt or if you just got cancelled?
