Hi all.. Does anyone know which electricity provider offers the best rate for solar feed in tariff in NSW? I am with Red Energy and they offer 7c/kW. Most others that I have checked, including Globird, offers 5c/kW. Any other recommendations? Thanks!

For time of use plan 7c seems to be the highest (several providers). On single rate plan, 7.6c seems the highest (Energy Australia).
Powershop solar plan is 12c.
I don't see it. When I checked, it shows 7c.
Rates different, depending on whether you have time of use or flat rate. Unfortunately it’s hard to get flat rate if you are already on, time of use.
My tarrif is time of use and controlled load (for hot water, I guess). My distributor is Endeavour. I am not sure how and why my meter has this tariff. I know that I have a smart meter. Is there a way one can move to a flat rate tariff at all?
On a separate note, solar feed in tariff doesn't seem to be much different for time of use vs flat rate.
@virhlpool: Might have changed but I get 12c at a Flat rate tariff with Powershop. My friend tried the same but was told only applies to Flat Rate and his provider, AusGrid wouldnt let him switch to Flat Rate. Like you, I guess, have found with Endeavour.
This was 6 months ago, given what you say, maybe they aren't giving 12c on Flat Rate anymore, which might mean ours could change in the future.
@RockyRaccoon: I just got an email saying my 12c FIT is dropping down to 6c after 5th of March.
@m0usju1c3: Yep, I got this email overnight as well. Now looking to shift away from Powershop to someone who offers better rates.
@Devastator0: Same, it's becoming shirty! It used to be like 15cents a year ago then 12c and big increase of energy rate and now 5c!!
Time to switch
@ValouSydney: I am on same boat, which provider did you go with ?
@sydneybargainer: Red energy using the $80 cash back, seems to be the cheapest at the moment.
7c is the most I've seen
Just got an email from power shop dropping FIT to 6c from previously 12c .. 10 days notice period to find a good provider or to take new rate hit from 5th march
Supply charges to be increased by 20% as well as energy price by 5~10%
I got the email too. Any luck finding any other providers with a higher rate? I'm just starting to see what's out there
Yeah I'd very much like to know if anyone has found a better, more competitive provider than Powershop given their changes.
I just got the email too. Sad how low the FIT now is. Maybe a battery is looking more viable.
Been thinking that about a battery too but without any sort of subsidy, for a decently sized battery, I'd be looking between 10-20K and I can't justify that hit all at once.
Yeah. So expensive. Then the lifetime of a battery isn’t amazing either.
@miasommers: Exactly right, batteries, unless I'm mistaken, need to be replaced every 6-7 years or so so that's a continuous dent in the wallet.
Got email too. What happens to the pre-purchase powerpacks if U leave powershop, does it get refunded to Ur linked bank?
Currently sussing out Origin Energy's "Origin Go Solar Variable" plan. Seems like that might be one of the good alternative options given Powershop's changes coming. Controlled load daily supply rate is higher, but the main daily supply charge is a lot less than what Powershop is moving to. General use rate is almost the same. 10c Feed In Tarrif.
Haha could be a winner
Is there a cap on solar generated at the good FIT? That’s their often used loophole. Great FIT for the first 10KW 😔
For that particular plan, there is no cap. They do offer a higher plan that does offer a 12c tarrif but that's only good until 14Kwh supplied to the grid, after that I think it drops you down. The plan I mention doesn't have any cap on it.
Oh awesome. Do you mind linking to the plan without the cap? They clearly make things complicated to bamboozle consumers.
@miasommers: They make it difficult to link to the specific plan (it appears if you go to Origin Energy's website and punch in your address). Best I can link to is this:
https://www.originenergy.com.au/terms-and-conditions-origin-…
@Devastator0: Found it. Just switched from powashop. Thankyou!
Export cap (if it exists on your distribution network) is irrespective of the solar feed in tariff. Energy supplier doesn't impose the cap.
I cant find that plan with my address, I can only see - Origin Solar Boost + Origin Go Variable which has 12c for for 14kwh then 7c.
Red energy is 7c. NSW.
Roughly a wk ago, I contacted Powershop and asked about any better rates (been with them for # of years) then got an rmail confirming these are the best rates + FIT (12c/kw).
After 2 days got the same email re rate change from 5th March, I took a snapshot of the June powerpack and the new rates and email them that how unethical you are as you just yold me thease are the best rates….
Lets see, if I dont hear back tomorrow, will call on Tuesday as I am planning to change to red energy but will check the origin option too
Thanks
Please do let us know how you go!
Powershop i formed that they have processed the refund and encouraged me to check energymade easy and if there are better deals go for it as no contract !
FYI I switched from Powershop to Energy Aust
Rates offered to my location (AusGrid network) were 7.6c Fit with Flat rate 30.98c (Based on quoted 37.78c with18% discount) Daily fee .78474c (based on 0.957c with 18% discount)
Factors in my decision.
12month fixed contract, Shopback signup bonus, Coming off summer Feed in which on average over past 3 years is higher than autumn and winter. No fee to break contract.
Without using all my calcs on each provider, Based on annual average last year I exported 15kw of power each day with my existing Powershop was gaining me 67.5c a day (12-7.5 = 4.5 perKw. — 4.5 x 15kw = 67.5)
But the daily charge was 1.29 vs 78.5 which meant a higher cost of 50c a day. Which meant actual loss was only 17.5c.
Of course Powershop has even lost that now, given its FIT is even less. (6c)
Point with above, is look at how much you export and factor in the daily connection fee to make sure it doesnt eat any gain you might make. Knowing your past average yearly export helps considerably. Plus how much do you import at other times. In my case having a battery makes this factor a much lower impact.
A little bit of highjacking:)
Anyone have EV + Solar?
I subscribed to Ovo energy who have free electricity between 11-2pm and EV charging 8c between 12-6am.
they charge minimum of $192 per month.wondering if there is a better deal in the market.
Im currently getting 10c FIT with Origin
Who's your grid owner? Endeavour (NSW) doesn't have any provider giving 10c at the moment it seems.
Endeavour
Plan details - https://imgur.com/a/pJwvdhr
I am also in process of switching away from Powershop as FIT has reduced from 12c to around 6c. Endeavour network.
Origin, AGL, Energy Australia have plans of 12c Solar feed in tarriff, but limited to initial 15kw.
Origin has plan of 10c flat FIT as mentioned above.
But before jumping to other provider, I am switching to Time of Use plan as our usage is heavy mostly at night (Heating in winter). Our day/summer usage very low 4-5kwh.I can’t find the Origin Energy 10c FIT plan, seems the Solar Boost plan is 12c for first 14kw.
Any idea how to get the uncapped 10c plan?Call Origin and ask if they have that plan for you or for that distributor. Simply energy also has 12c unlimited FIT plan.
hi
help me please
I am with AGL Solar Savers
is there any better than AGL ?
