This is my favourite Clint Eastwood movie!

    • +4

I think you are thinking of Back to the Future Part 3.

  • +5

I really enjoyed this film. Honestly was probably my fav of last year.

    • +1

      Eh - it was ok.
I sure hope you didn't pay to watch it.

  • +3

They made this into a movieโ€ฆ interesting.

    • +13

Remember you need a steering wheel plugged into your TV when you watch this.

    • +3

It's not interesting. Just your classic underdog rags to riches sports movie.

      • +4

Turning a pure esim racer into a highly competitive real life Lemans 24hr driver was pretty groundbreaking at the time. Before that there was little belief in much correlation between the 2. Personally I found it very interesting, then again I love my Sim racing.

Ironically I actually competed in the same qualification series at the time, never had a steering wheel back then so had to use controller… couldn't do much better than just inside the top 1000 out of about 250,000 in our region. Top 250 were pretty much all steering wheel.

        • +1

i thought the actual story was interesting but the movie adaptation was average

            • +1

@G-rig: its not really based on a video game in the normal sense, the story is about how they turned an esim racer into a real life racer.
im probably being a bit harsh but it felt like some scenes were just put in to show that things at the end had improved, but in a very rushed, rough way.

it shouldnt be compared to f&f either, theyre very different movies, im comparing it to Rush or Ford V Ferrari (as someone else already mentioned)

    • Require you to grind thru license?

  • Mixed reviews but will watch for free.

    • +6

You don't value your finite lifespan as much as your money?

      • +12

You don't value your finite lifespan as much as commenting ๐Ÿ˜

        • +8

great, now I'm sitting in the dark, thinking about how finite life is.

meh, some bargain retail therapy will fix everything

          • -1

@andresampras: This should be in the "about" section of ozbargain

        • -4

Commenting on here doesn't take as much time as watching Gran Turismo on the same platform that actually has a decent selection of classic films

          • +2

@Faro: I know i was joking, i was expecting someone to say I dont value my lifespan for commenting on someone commenting.

      • -2

        The critics aren't always right.

        • -1

          Vague

  • +6

Hah I'll never forget how much of a "car guy" endlessly playing GT1 & GT2 made me feel as a kid. Being able to name so many vehicles on the road made me feel like video games had educated me so well.

How the hell it got made into a movie is beyond me though. Please for the love of god please tell me at least the High Speed Ring is in there?

    • +3

      It's a biopic about a gamer ๐ŸŽฎ๐ŸŽฎ๐ŸŽฎ
      Turned real driver ๐ŸŽ๏ธ๐ŸŽ๏ธ๐ŸŽ๏ธ
And how cool he is ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ˜Ž

    • +2

Haha being excited about seeing a Sil-eighty or One-via on the road, and then either trying to explain it to people or just saying don't worry about it.

      • +2

        Nah mum it's a Toyota Sillycar :D

  • +9

A Forza Horizon movie might make more sense, winning an outlandish racing festival could be cool, lots of drifting and drama potential.

    • isnt that like race wars in ff1?

      • +2

You could also say the plot of Tokyo Drift is fairly similar too.

Either way. Gran Turismo is fantastic.
Highly recommend. Its not as good as Rush or Ford V Ferrari. But its close. And way WAY better then majority of the Fast ans Furious franchise.

  • -1

Fellas, is this a good movie for a first date?

Cars and video games and mindless competition appeal to me, so I assume they also appeal to everyone else??

    • +6

Certainly. I think he will respect you even more and love you for more than your body.

      • Fellas, is it gay to take another man with you to go see gran turismo?

        • +5

only if you're a man as well and you make out after

          • -1

@andresampras: Is it gay to make out with your male date after seeing a movie as masculine and heterosexual as Gran Turismo just because you're riding high on adrenaline?

            • +1

@Faro: not sure. Give it a try and report back with results please

              • @andresampras: "he, hes gay, but has this wonderful taste for movies based on popular racing video game franchises. Theres lots of things that are interesting about him"

    • +1

I'd suggest that if they've agreed to go on a date, the movie itself is secondary.

I've been out of the dating scene for a while but I found Robocop and Evil Dead 2 to be particular winners for me, likely due to them being the greatest movies ever made.

I had one girl who picked The Hills Have Eyes (the 2000s remake). I can't say it really got us in the mood but we figured it out anyway.

      • Look, I'm just here looking for a good heterosexual time watching a heterosexual movie with a couple of heterosexual friends on a date where we might make out a little afterwards if the movie gets us excited. Is that gay?

        • It is, so get along

        • I was snowboarding at Thredbo last season and there was this guy carving down the hill yelling at the top of his lungs "I think I might be gay!"

Was that you by any chance?

    • My wife liked the movie as well and I know I mentioned I liked the film but it definitely was liked by both.

    • +16

I like how your taste in movies, grammar and pettiness makes the argument against you in advance to save "the lefties" the time and effort.

      Appreciate it, mate

      • -3

        LMAO triggered

      • +1

Trying2SaveABuck is the same user that posted this BS in the the sound of freedom post:

"anyway going to be a lot of triggered lefties defending pedos doesnt suprise me"

    • +2

      Might trigger the greenies…

  • Date movieโ€™ The Notebook โ€˜ or something similar ,
to put her ( Iโ€™m assuming ) in the mood .

  • excellent :D

  • this was sorta based on a true story.

which i honestly had to google, was almost unbelievable

  • I really enjoyed this movie! There's a romantic subplot shoehorned into it, but it tickled all the right bits for me as a car dude

    • Like your… muffler?

      • +3

        Don't be so obscene

        • +3

          No problem. Sorry, HentaiEnjoyer

          • @Faro: Yeah, really had to get my coolant pumping if you catch my drift

      • undercarriage

      • His double diffuser

  • +1

It isn't as terrible as I expected, go in with low expectations and just enjoy it!

  • +9

I understand that the movie isn't simply two hours of someone repeatedly trying to get gold on their licence test and throwing a controller at the wall in frustration.

  • What high yield investment vehicle wins?

    • +1

The friends they raced along the way

    • +4

      Family

    • The one with the bonut.

  • +1

As someone who is into actually watching motorsport and know how things work, the clips I've seen made me cringe a bit. Might check it out but might be painful.

    • +2

bit like watching the cast of the Wimbledon movie play tennis

  • +3

As a motorsports fan this was probably one of the worst movies I have ever watched.
If you want to watch a good movie based on motorsports, watch something like Rush or Ford v Ferrari.

    • +2

Yeah glad I'm not the only one who is thinking this.

    • Days of Thunder!

    • Both great movies, but I thought this was solid as well. I feel like how much skill this actually took and the sheer level of competition is lost on a lot of people. To beat out literally millions of others is pretty insane.

    • +2

As one motorsports fan to another. I think you are wrong.

Its not Rush or Ford v Ferrari. But this is better then majority of the fast and furious movies or anything from Marvel the past year.
Its a perfectly competent 7.5/10 movie.

  • +3

    Was actually a good movie.
More enjoyable than fast and furious

    • F&F is more about heists nowadays

    • +8

If these are your two cinematic reference points, I am not sure if such a strong term like "good movie" really works here

      • +1

Haha well its a spiritual successor to when FF was bearable to watch (just 1 and 3)
Obv this is based on a trueish story.
If you love cars and gran turismo or sim racing you'll have a good time.

  • What was quick to get a release on Streaming

  • watched couple days ago, good movie! Got to be the first movie in a while didnโ€™t fall asleep during ๐Ÿ˜‚

  • +3

Downshifting on a long straight will win the race every time.

  • +1

This movie offends me. Iโ€™m so triggered. Must. Virtue. Signal

    • But 2nd place would've had more marketing value

    • You must be talking about Ninternet. Guy can't help himself on movie posts.

      • -4

Sorry, been busy binge-watching fast and furious to catch up on the rich cultural hole I've been missing from my life.

Can't wait to talk about cars with my mates while complaining about lefties down the pub before the footy starts every weekend for the rest of my life so that I can avoid the depressing emptiness of my job and family ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ˜Ž

        • Thank you for underlining my point.

  • +1

the trailer literally tells you the whole movie, no need to waste 2 hours on it

  • +1

An ok movie, actor has almost like one facial expression the entire time.

  • +1

I watched it it was a good movie.

maybe expectation was lower because it's "based on a game" (which is only part true) but it was good overall I think. not "great" but easily good.

  • +1

Went to see this at the cinemas with the husband and kid thinking Iโ€™m going to have a good nap. Ended up watching the whole movie. Was expecting something boring but ended up really enjoying it!

    • +1

My wife said the same thing, very hesitant to watch it but really enjoyed it.

  • Is this a game or movie?

  • +1

Movie was surprisingly good, expected a movie based on a game to be crap like most of them but this one was decent.

  • Amazing movie. Thanks, OP!

  • -8

How is this an ozbargain deal? Most movies go from Cinemas, to rental to free on streaming services…

    • +2

      are you new to ozbargain?

there's a killswitch for deals like this for killbuzzes like you. See the main post on how to switch it off.

      • Feels like everyone disagreed with me lol anyways it is what it is. My point is imagine if every single netflix/stan/binge/amazonprime new movie is a "deal" then so be it.

  • can be confusing because the movie still comes up on prime as to rent for a certain amount of $$.
I had to search for it to find the free version - it didn't come up in new movies/featured film. Odd.
watched and enjoyed. even better that it's free.

  • +1

Thanks OP, heard good things about this, will check it out. :)

  • +1

Enjoyed this movie way more than I expected. It's not groundbreaking and it isn't trying to revolutionise cinema or anything like that. But it's an enjoyable 2 hours of fun movie goodness. It's one of those 7/10 films that you really enjoy way more than the rating would normally indicate.
