How does this one compare? It's inferior, right? I am useless with these things.
Yes. Unless you bought more than one for the mesh feature.
Slower processor, slower lan connections at a glance
I had less issues with this unit than the one posted. Mine may have been faulty.
Its also a much different size and shape.
This is a rebranded Phicomm K3. If it can still flash the Merlin (ASUSwrt Mod) firmware, then would be a great alternative of AC88U.
Hi Xmagic
Any info re flashing Merlin (ASUSwrt Mod) firmware to this. I looked at OpenWrt and it is a hassle. Void warranty to pull the hardware apart to set up a serial port.
I love the idea of superior software with things like updated security. etc. but the risk of bricking etc seem very high and until you use new firmware you just do not really know the day-to-day benefits.
Sadly, sometimes open source firmware still runs second to proprietary, especially closed source Broadcom drivers.
For that reason alone, the Merlin (ASUSwrt Mod) looks the best bet re drivers.
Any thoughts appreciated
