Do you have international roaming sim to avoid the great firewall of China?

    • +3

      Hey @Dream-cast

All of our eSIMs and SIM Cards come with an in-built VPN to allow western apps.

Let me know if you have any further questions! 👍

      -Aidan

      • I used your services recently in China. It seemed to be connecting from Hong Kong, so I had uncensored internet (but chatgpt didn't work because it's not supported in HK yet).

I'm thinking of using your service again for an upcoming trip.
Clarify for me, is there any way for me to know when I've been shaped after using up my data?

        • Hey @idonotknowwhy

I'm sorry what do you mean by this?

Clarify for me, is there any way for me to know when I've been shaped after using up my data?

          -Aidan

          • @SimsDirect: Yeah, when I was in China, sometimes part-way through the day, the internet would become unusable. I'm wondering if this was due to being shaped (using up my 3gb or whatever).

And if I get shaped, does it reset?

Eg: I'm thinking of buying this: Unlimited (2GB/Day high speed)
So 2GB / day fast, then unusable.
            1. Does it reset at midnight in the local timezone?
            2. Any way to tell if I've been shaped or just having network issues?

            • +1

              @idonotknowwhy: @Idontknowwhy

Ahh I see, I've never heard anyone call it 'shaped'.

              1. It's midnight, correct (local time zone).
              2. The speed will slow right down to 0.5Mbps if you hit your fair usage (2GB) within a 1 day period.

I hope that answers your question!

              -Aidan

Ahh I see, I've never heard anyone call it 'shaped'.

That's what we used to call it back in the early "broadband" days, you'd get like 10GB at 1.5mbit, then you'd be 'shaped' to 64kbit lol.

I hope that answers your question!

                Yep it does, thanks.

      -Aidan

Just the one option for Bali?

  • +2

2gb per day is hardly "Unlimited"

    • +1

      Hey @Flying Ace

The fair usage pollicy can be an issue; it is unlikely to find suppliers that offer truly unlimited data.

Most carriers have some speed restriction, whether it's a speed cap per day or after a certain amount of usage (like 50GB).

      We'll keep searching though!

      -Aidan

      • +1

Yeah, I've done a lot of research for an upcoming SE Asia trip and there's nothing with unlimited at full speed. The best I could find was 3GB and then speed is throttled.

Hey @SimsDirect, it would be great if you could manage to get 50GB eSims for SE Asia (Vietnam in particular). I do not want to be in a position of running out of data so right now, I am going to buy a 50GB eSim through TravelKon. Something you could consider for the future :)

  • +3

Is it just me or is it expensive for esims for Japan. Looking at 5G but $30 for a week seems pretty high even with discounts. What are other eSIM sellers like for 5G?

    • Same thought. Going to Japan next March, so deal come on time, but still expensive, $100 a months… That's what I paid in simcard for 2 to.3 years.

    • +2

It's hard to beat this offer at the moment
      https://www.airalo.com/japan-esim/moshi-moshi-30days-10gb

      10GB, 30 days, $9 USD

      • That's a great price!

        • Yes, google some reviews for Japan though. Some say not very usable

  • Can I buy this now and then use in July?

    • Hey @kiriakoz

Depends on the product, which product are you looking at?

You can get all the details on the product page also.

      -Aidan

      • Apologies Aidan, I still can’t see it but there’s a lot of info so maybe I’m missing it. I’m looking to getting the “Europe & UK eSIM (35 Countries)”.

        • +1

          Hey @kiriakoz

          No problem at all!

That will be fine with that eSIM, you can go ahead and place an order :)

          -Aidan

          • @SimsDirect: Thanks for your help. I will be purchasing.

            • +1

              @kiriakoz: Fire! 🔥

Thanks for the purchase! Reach out if you need anything at all!

              -Aidan

      • Hi what is the expiry on the esim I.e. what is the must activate by date. I am travelling to Switzerland in September.

EDIT: just scrolled down for the answer. The expiry is 90 days of purchase.

  • I get to Japan on May 14, would that be too close to the expiry date?

    • Hey @theartofthedeal

That would be fine! As long as it's within 90 days, you are good to go! 👍

      -Aidan

      • Thanks! So I should wait until the last day of the deal to buy

        • @theartofthedeal

Yes! That would be a great idea :)

          -Aidan

          • @SimsDirect: Just wanted to clarify this

Wednesday, 14 February 2024 at 12:00:00 midnight to Tuesday, 14 May 2024 at 12:00:00 midnight would be 90 days already so what time would the expiry come into effect?

            • +1

              @theartofthedeal: Hey @theartofthedeal

Let's play it safe and place your order after the sale. I'll honour the discount for you, no worries at all.

Just DM me here on OZB and Ill send you a custom code.

              -Aidan

  • Cheapest Bali/Indonesia esim is coming up as $29.75 with code whereas you.have it as $21.75

    • +1

      Hey @jamba

I've edited the post! That's my bad!

      Mafs. 🤦‍♂️

      -Aidan

      • I cant see the edited post

        • Try now!

          • @SimsDirect: Negative. 6gb esim still coming up as $29.25 with code

            • @jamba: Ah, sorry, I meant I edited the post to correct it to the right price on the ozbargain deal.

              -Aidan

        • +1

yeah i was just looking at the same thing. Also ""This SIM is with China Unicom, network texts will be in Chinese"" is putting me off.

from memory is was only like $30au in the airport and they fit it to your phone for you.

      • What has Married At First Sight got to do with it? 🤣

        • +1

          😂

      • Thanks, but i was looking for esim

  • Im unsure how 2gb can be called unlimited, that could be used in a couple of youtube videos

  • Hi, when i searched Sri Lanka on your website, the 12Gb Europe & UK sim card comes up but on its page, the description says 18gb in UK and 12gb in Europe. So much data in Sri Lanka? Thanks

    • Hey @hotchocolate

That SIM works in Sri Lanka (12GB Data Only).

      Hope that clears it up!

      -Aidan

      • Thanks for the prompt reply, just picked up two

        • Legendary! Thank you for trusting us with your purchase! ❤️

          -Aidan

  • What network do you use in Japan? Are they fully local or roaming?

    • Hey @elusive

      Softbank/KDDI

They are roaming eSIMs, that are using local networks.

The only way you would get directly onto local would be to buy an eSIM directly from a Japanese operator or locally when you land.

Most customers have no issues with speeds or coverage/reliability if that's what you are concerned about.

If you do run into lots of issues, you'll be covered by our Money Back Guarantee also!

      -Aidan

      • +1

Ah, that is unfortunate. I was looking at TravelKon who have an option for Docomo IIJ eSIMs, since local is usually my preference.

        Thanks for responding!

        • Why do you prefer a local SIM over a roaming one?

          • +1

@spaceflight: Lower latency and better localised search results, primarily. Roaming sometimes means your connections get routed back to the issuer's network, so requests take longer and it looks like you're in a different country to geoip.

Basically, I'd like a JP SIM in Japan, not a HK or SG one. Otherwise I might as well roam from an AU network.

Course I'm sure it'll work fine for most people, I'm just a bit particular about my network connections. That's a me problem.

  • Perfect timing, off to Japan on the 11th of May so will wait till the last day of the deal and then purchase. Used eSIMs before overseas and never had any issues. Thanks guys!

    • Awesome! Glad we grabbed you in time! 🤙

Reach out if you have any questions :)

      Safe travels!

      -Aidan

  • Hey @SimsDirect, the Europe sim I'm looking at has a note about 90 days expiry. https://simsdirect.com.au/products/ultd-eu-uk-es?variant=407… Looks like the other SIMs are not expiring, but this one is best for us. Any chance of getting a code? Not going until June.

    • Hey @CheapCharlie

Just screenshot my message, and we will honour a 25% discount closer to your date.

Just reach out with the screenshot by email and the team will sort you out!

      -Aidan

  • Just bought, but didn't see the referral link! :(

    • Hey @ozb-lurker

Amazing! Thankyou for your purchase 🙏

Don't worry, the deal cannot be stacked with any other codes.

      -Aidan

  • Can't seem to see when the NZ e-sim has to be activated by?

    • +1

      Hey @jamestownfx

There is no activation/expiry requirements for that eSIM!
