Google Pixel 6 Pro (Sorta Sunny) 128GB $649 Delivered @ Telstra (Telstra ID Required)

160

Having just received a refurb for $459 with this deal, we were reminded how good a well-sorted Pixel 6 Pro still is. Still a few years of Android updates to come, and the Android 14 February security update arrived at the same time as my P7 Pro.

Camera is still superb - and getting better with new software updates, while the fingerprint issues seem to be resolved.

Looks like these are the final ones left, with only Sorta Sunny available.

You will need a Telstra ID - you can get one with a $2 SIM card, and if you're with Boost you get a Telsta ID as well.

Oh and you'll need a case, suggest a Spigen with the edge protection bumps. This is one slippery sucker.

This is correct; they didn’t start releasing other colours in higher capacity until Pixel 8/8 Pro

I wonder why they make it so slippery

    • Force you to buy a case.

      • Although pretty much everyone uses a phone case anyway these days.

It's fine, never dropped mine in the 2 years I had it.

That's very impressive. I found the Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 to be crazy slippery without a case.

      • Mine was the same until I crossed that 2 year threshold. It’s picked up more damage in the last week than it had in 2 and bit years before that. If I was paranoid I’d think it was trying to self destruct now.

Thanks OP for the post - its an indeed excellent phone. I really love the size, form factor, display and excellent camera. The only cons - and to my surprise, for the 1st time in my life, I've been having multiple software issues (accelerometer - raise to wake feature works horribly many times failing to detect motion even if I'd swing my arms like I'm trying to smash a ball for 6; fingerprint sensor - its still a hit and miss for me; random screen freeze - I'm unsure how I trigger this but on some occasions, screen will freeze or have 100000ms lag and I have to force restart via physical keys).

Having said that, please comment if anyone else also has any of these issues? Otherwise, my conclusion remains, if you can pick it up for cheap, the issues are petty and you can easily work around them.

I can understand your frustration. I don't own this phone but I can say that the Pixel line up of phones always seem to have issues. My Pixel 1's microphone, speakers, headphone jack and bluetooth stopped working properly… the battery life was awful (about 30 minutes) although that might have been due to the cheap battery a friend replaced it with. My current phone's (Pixel 4a) fingerprint sensor stopped working (although sometimes works if the phone is dropped… so probably a loose connector).

      I have the same issues… But I don't bother with fingerprint sensor…

      • The sensor on the S23 is brilliant, they have improved a lot over the years. If you do mobile payments, online banking or do anything securely (e.g. passwords app) it's a lot quicker and more secure than anything other method

        • TBH, I'm still a big fan of physical sensors. I love the ones on my old Xiaomi on the side integrated with the power button and fingerprint sensors on the back of Pixel 3 and Nexus phones are so amazing as well.

Under glass technology is heading in the right direction, just for some reason Pixel 6 has issues with it.

After we got the refurbished P6 Pro, we did a full reset on the 2 year old one (with a cracked screen). My observation there was that it seemed a lot more responsive post reset. My experience is - it's worth doing a full backup and factory reset every 12 months with Android devices.

A factory reset might be worth a try…

      • Thanks might try it

    • Pixel 7 owner here, my main issue is mobile reception, there's a few places I frequent regularly where I literally have no signal, I like the design, but unfortunately in my case it's just insufficient at being a phone.

  • The biggest thing I hated about my Pixel 6 Pro was the slow charging it used to drive me insane when I had it

  • Not a good deal really.

Have a Pixel 6 Pro 256GB that I got for $1030 prior to the Pixel 7 launch.

Curved screen is mostly useless and makes getting a good screen protector cost more / difficult to apply.

Shop around for a Pixel 7 for this price or less and get better battery life, a mildly better camera and a flat screen as well as more accessories.

It isn't a horrible phone, but better options exist now.

I wouldn't recommend buying this phone. Even though I was using a sturdy OtterBox case (https://www.otterbox.com.au/en-au/protective-pixel-6-case-bl…), the touchscreen stopped working each time I dropped the phone from 2-3 feet, even just a few times. This resulted in me needing three replacement phones under the 2-year warranty, each requiring me to spend roughly 2 hours on the phone with Google support.
