Have been keeping an eye out for cheap DDR4 SODIMM RAM to upgrade the micro PC in my homelab and found this at a decent price. Seems to be the cheapest 32GB kit or single stick available at the current time. Not as good as the Crucial deal last year though - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/796091

Single 32GB stick - https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B08KRMK2TL

maybe I got unlucky, but I ordered a Timetec set a year ago (came from Amazon US), and started having issues with corrupted files and crashes. did a RAM check and got some problems highlighted.

returned, got a different brand and worked fine.

Had similar issues except mine started approx a year after purchase. Switched to an established name brand and have had no problems since.

    • purchased 64GB Timetec recently for $156 ($78 each)
thanks for the reminder to do memtest, reviews looked decent so just went with it

wished i'd gotten an extra set of 32GB sticks from this deal was $154 ($77 each)

  • 90 bucks for 32GB is a good price. Was looking to upgrade my laptop RAM for a while and ended up pulling the trigger last week on a pair of Corsair Vengeance DDR4 32GB at $96 each (since gone up to $121).

Your corsair is just a much better choice. Semi-brandless ram is just an awful idea. The types of damage silent ram corruption can do is unthinkable.

Ram is typically super robust, so most systems and applications just trust it (or depending on the workload have to trust it).

Always get proper ram. Saving $9 isn't a bargain.

      • Yeah, I agree, and so does Linus Torvalds[1]. ECC should be the standard, parity was used back in the XT days, but we've sort of forgotten about it until AMD and DDR5 came along.

        • The economics of ECC in Australia are really bad. I've been looking to set up a TrueNAS, but I literally don't think it's possible to build something for cheaper than a Synology 923+ (when the go on special).

      • Don't disagree. I'd pay the little bit extra for a known brand any day. I was originally eyeing Crucial 32GB sticks but they haven't dropped below their current price for $109 for quite some time, so surprised to see a couple deals below $100 within a week of each other. If I were impatient and needed to buy something today I'd personally go the Crucial (but I'm very happy with my Corsair pickup).

      • I don't like reading how people here are discovering issues a year after using them.

Ram supposed to be if they work they work. So I just run a memtest when I get it and if its good, its good.

Starting having issues after a year from two ozbargainers is not a good sign.

  • How do I check if these are compatible with my refurbished optiplex? I've tried Googling, but no luck. I've got the optiplex 7060 i7 8700, motherboard E145483.

  • bought this last week and i installed it over the weekend in one of my homelab pcs (hp g800 g3 mini). Runs great so far. Its also dual rank if that matter to anyone

  • Half this price on aliexpress. No deal.

If you're using suspect RAM, then this and Memtest86 are useful:

      • Fingers crossed, but I've not had a problem … yet.

    • Any recommended seller you've ordered from before? Looking for two 32GB sticks for my kids ageing laptops, so don't want to spend an arm and leg on them.

      • Their laptops can take 32gb dimms?

        • Yeah, they should be able to. Old Lenovo ThinkPads. Only have 8GB on-board. Did the same with some of the same model laptops in the office.
