How Much Would You Pay for a Bathroom Vanity and Where Would You Buy It?

I had a look at bathroom vanities in IKEA, and they look fairly boring and low quality. Where do you get nice bathroom vanities, and how much is the minimum it would cost for a small vanity, decent quality, potentially stone top?

I've used Timberline and ADP in the past.

Depending on the size, probably around the 1-2k mark.

    • I have both Timberline and ADP vanities in my home. I find Timberline is slightly better quality than ADP but I agree both are great brands and priced reasonably.

OP can visit a Reece showroom to get a feel of some of the ADP vanities on display. Reece also does their own brand of vanity called Posh Domaine which from my understanding is made by ADP, almost the same as an ADP range with minor tweaks and a slightly cheaper price.

For Timberline, OP need to find an authorised dealer from his/her location.

  • As above Timberline and ADP are good.

I'd avoid the cheap white imported chinese vanities.

I bought a wall hung vanity from ascotbathroomware. It was on clearance and it was for an investment property. I think original price was $1k and I got it for $200.

I installed it myself and I was impressed with the quality of the cabinet and wall hung brackets for $1,000, let alone $200. I got very lucky. That's what happens when you don't care about how it looks as long as it was 900mm and wall hung.

    I'd pay up to $2000 for a pre-fab vanity.

Anymore, you may as well get a custom made one.

    Get wall hung if possible.

    • Get wall hung if possible

Wall hung and install under vanity LED light. It will look awesome.

In my previous house, I had wall hung and installed strip LED everywhere. They looked good but weren't very practical… it just highlighted the mess under the vanity haha

I find wall hung not only looks better but is practical to place your rubbish bin and scale underneath.

You can also stand closer to the sink without your feet knocking against the kickboard.

Absolutely right. I got my dirty clothes basket under it.

I have LED under my mirror and sink vanities and I keep them on at night so it is easy to find my way to the bathroom in the dark.

    • Thanks. Do you still have to order them in even if you're not getting custom-made? Or do they usually have a bunch in store that you can pick up?

      • Unless it's a very basic vanity, unlikely they will have the exact size, style, sink, stone top that you want in stock.

Takes a few days or order them in.

Moot point really, unless you need to install it that weekend DIY and didn't care what it looked it, vanities aren't an impulse buy.

Speak to the bathroom designer or plumber to make sure the vanity you choose is suitable before purchasing.

      • Depending on what is available in store. Heavily discounted items are not customisable so you just take available stock.

But normally if you are look at ADP, Timberline or other good brands, you will need to choose a couple of options like sink type, tap hole location (or no tap hole required because it is on wall), interior finish color, sometimes options for electrical plugs in mirrors, mirror orientation (1 door, 2 door or 3 door), hinge which side, bench top finish, wood color finish, etc etc in order to complete the order. So it will be custom and it take at least a couple of weeks for the manufacturer to deliver the product to your door step.

  • I forgot to mention, when looking for a quality vanity, check out that hinges and runners they use. If you see Blum, Hettich, Hafele.. it's a good sign.

If they use cheap hinges and runners, you can be confident they cut cost elsewhere too.

While it didn't suit my current house, I'd also consider getting a custom made vanity made of Australian hardwood. The messmate or recycled timber look fantastic.

  • BLUM hinges
    500 deep, 500 high
    Width upto 900mm
No drawers, just 2 doors only, 1 adjustable shelf inside
Choice of doors from Polytec standard range
    16mm HMR melamine carcase
    Wall mounted
20mm stone from Caesarstone standard range basin, plumbing not included

Supply and install was ~$1600 for one vanity as per above specs. Sydney area.

We usually didn't do just one vanity - as our charge to cover install, supply and materials incl. stone was a lot higher in total cost % vs if you had it done with a kitchen, laundry etc

Some clients wanted it anyway because of our previous works but that's the general idea of one single vanity cost from a joinery company 2023 prices.

Extra cost if you add drawers, LED, 2-pac poly, etc.

Just purchased 2 Timberline. Looking at $1000 a piece depending on size and design. But their customer service and delivery is faultless and they look great. 100% made in Australia.

    • $2,000 for tiny mirrored door boxes to put your hair gel into?

      • Lol not sure why downvoted. If people want run of the mill tacky white plastic looking 1990s boxes, go to Bunnings.

If you want something to set off your bathroom that you're spending tens of thousands on in a house worth over a million - then $1000 vanity is absolutely nothing. 🤷‍♀️

        • I leave my hair gel on the side of the tub, which the landlord said not to use because it'll probably sink into the floor.

    thats everything Ikea…
