These little low power Mini PCs have been quite popular lately and this one from Firebat is quite unique in that it has a 1.9" LCD display on the front that can display information like the date/time, CPU/RAM/fan stats, as well as custom backgrounds and more that can easily be customised within Windows.

This is a good option if you want a small media player as it supports H.265 and AV1 hardware decoding, dual 4K output via HDMI and comes with activated Windows 11 and easily upgradeable RAM/storage. It's good for classic gaming and emulation too.

This one uses the Intel 12th Gen Alder Lake N100 4 core, 4 thread CPU with a single stick of 16GB DDR4 RAM and 512GB SSD storage with both an M.2 NVMe and M.2 SATA slot available. In terms of ports there's two HDMI 2.0 ports with 4K@60Hz support, dual Gigabit LAN, 2x USB 3.0, 2x USB 2.0 and a headphone jack. For cooling there's an inbuilt fan and a magnetic side cover for easy SSD/RAM access.

You can checkout a review from ETA Prime on the Acemagic S1 that's basically the same except the Acemagic has the weaker Intel N95, so the performance isn't as good as the Firebat.

The screen bit is a nice idea, hopefully more mini pc makers adopt it

    I wonder if Intel nics

    • +2

I know the ACEMAGIC S1 uses Realtek RTL8125 NICs so I'll assume this is the same.

Yep.. I find the protectli mini PC's fit for the job

I think there are n200s with dual Intel nic

  • Are there fanless N95/N100 boxes around?

    • +1

      Mele mini PC's.

Search for Topton routers on Aliexpress. They include four Intel NICs for a similar price, however without storage and memory.

      • I usually go qotom because I've had good experience with them, although the toptons have newer tech these days

      • ….. and it's too expensive.

  • Noob question but why n100 is so popular? It has 4 cores, does it mean its equivalent to i5 or i7 older generations e.g 6th or even 7th?

    • +5

Low power consumption CPU that shits on the Celerons in terms of performance. Cores aren't everything - the iGPU in this beats a lot of older i5/i7 generations due to the hardware decoding among other things.

    Good for Pfsense?

  • would this work for daily computing and running 10-20 tabs in chrome?

    • +2

My old i7 2600K still does a great job as a browsing and even light photoshop machine, so this should as well. 16GB RAM is also more than enough for that use case.

  • Can this be modified to NAS, would be good to throw a cheaper SSD for sailing the seas

    • Keep Windows, add a few USB HDD’s with DrivePool and you’d have a nice NAS easily able to run the *arrs and Plex. Equally Debian, drives, mergerfs for Plex with tone mapping.

I wonder if the 1.9" LCD can be accessed as a 2nd monitor lol

    Color: 16GB

    Is 16gb of colour enough?

  • Dumb question: what’s the benefit of having 2 gigabit LAN port?

  • Able to swap BT/ WIFI?

  • Sorry, the page you requested can not be found:(

    • can be found by typing FIREBAT S1 Mini PC on their site search.

  • Is the shipping really 20–30 days?

  • Do you think it's a clean win11 installation or worth reinstalling a clean win 11?

I'm still worried around tracking lol

    • tracking you for??~

      • If you see the link below. My suspicions were true. It's your loss if you don't clean install. Thanks to @bdl for the info.

    • To be completely safe you'd be better off reinstalling. Otherwise do a virus scan.

    • -1

It doesn't mention if it comes with Win 11 or not.

      • You might want to check the whole listing again. It most certainly does have Win11 Pro included.

    • +2

Definitely reinstall https://www.windowscentral.com/hardware/computers-desktops/s… (author is chucking a hissy fit but you get the idea)

      • That's exactly what I was worried about.

        • It's good to reinstall any brand of PC upon purchase (if you have the ability) so you know exactly what is on there.

          • @bdl: This is also true but some do have drivers for unique parts.. makes it hard to get things working as good as factory reset.

            • @maverickjohn: Usually if you just google the PID and VID for the devices that aren't auto-detected, you can find them

  • This dooesnt have wifi6 whereas the n95 version linked in OP does

    • +1

Would make 0 difference given that it's dual band Wifi 6 and not tri band wifi 6E. You can easily swap the module.

    • Seems like the same thing but it actually ships to me unlike the one in the OP

      • It says it can't be delivered to your location? Are you in Australia?

        • No, NZ

  • Just a PSA, its not this brand, but if you're in the market for a mini pc you should probably read this - https://www.windowscentral.com/hardware/computers-desktops/s…

    • +1

The short version is that Acemagic was using a company to create the Windows images to load onto the PCs and they came with unwanted/malicious customisations like the default search engine being changed. To be completely safe you're better off making a bootable Windows 11 USB and installing fresh on the PC.

  • @Clear what's the difference between the one you post and this one? thanks :)

    • +1

      The price.

  • You got my attention.

  • Any recommendations for a keyboard and mouse for this? Would it be best to get Bluetooth so as not to use any of the USB ports?

  • That's a shame about the HDMI 2.0 ports, if it were 2.1 I would have bought to test Steam Remote Play streaming in my living room from my main PC.
