[PC, Steam] Hogwarts Legacy 40% off $53.97 (Was $89.95) @ Steam

660

Not the cheapest it has been before on Steam but I believe it is the cheapest since XMAS. A good price for a generally well reviewed game. (Unless you happen to agree with the review from wired which is quite the contrary)

That 1/10 review.. probably one of those people who was expecting people to boycott the game when it first came out..

I have the PS5 version, tempted for the Steam Deck..

Personally I think it reads more like a political commentary rather than a game review.

check out the author of that article, the exact person you would expect to be offended

      • so a Karen

Must feel bad to realise you don’t have the kind if power over hearts and minds that you thought you did, when you bet it all on a boycott of a game that became the best selling game of the year.

  • +9

Game is super forgettable and bang average.

    • +6

I'm enjoying it as a casual HP fan

    • +4

It is mostly about being a Hogwarts world explorer, which is does pretty well and the gameplay is easy for a wide audience including appealing to non gaming HP fans.

It is also up there in pushing the limits of graphics.

Certainly an average game without the Hogwarts IP, but the gameplay is secondary to it being a book/movie fandom experience.

It has done a much better job of staying true to the source material than most IP licensing deals.

My HP loving other half adores this and has just started her second run. Looks awesome on PC.

Wired Review does not check out, Graphics look fantastic on PC even with DLSS. Added the FSR Frame generation mod to it as well.

  • +23

Geez! Did Wired get any backlash for that? That's a terrible review..

    • +6

…like the 'reviewer' doesn't even review the game…I'm stupefied

    • +2

Par for the course in gaming "journalism" these days. I don't think anyone takes these published reviews seriously anymore.
Their income source is clicks from people following social media links reporting on the terrible reviews.

As a massive Harry Potter fan, I found this game to be amazing just exploring the castle, grounds, and Hogsmeade.

It's fairly demanding on hardware if you want to run it at a decent quality, DLSS does help.

Once the game opens up, I felt overwhelmed by the number of busywork activities.

The assets are really high-quality, lots of Easter eggs and references for fans.

    • +1

There are too many, but mostly ignorable besides doing enough to level to 35 or whatever for the main quest gating.

Don't burn out on unnecessary side activities. Finish the main and relationship quests and then complete activities until bored with it.

If you plan to run it on a Lenovo Yoga with 16gb ram, be prepared for micro-stuttering due to due ram being chewed up with Lenovo's background services.

    • +4

Quite a specific bit of advice here.

    • Might also be throttling.

    • +1

Back in the days I even killed explorer.exe so I could run CS Source with 128MB of RAM.

    • What yoga can run this? My 3070ti struggled with this game at 1440p

      • I'm using EGPU with AMD RX 7600 and play on low to reduce micro-stuttering. Its ok.

I skip read that wired review really quickly for about 30 seconds and they don't even talk about the game, a lot of dribble

    • Also game is cheap for being a bestseller of last year which is why I upvoted. I haven't played myself and can only base opinions on what I've seen, definitely not bad but definitely not great. Visuals do look great though I'll eventually play just for that with no intentions of finishing the game.

As a Harry Potter fan, I really enjoyed this game. Exploring and being immersed in the Harry Potter universe was very fun. I used CD Keys website and snagged the game on Steam for $41.99. Currently $47.29.

    Incorporates 3rd-party DRM: Denuvo Anti-Tampering

Balls; I wanted to play this :(

    • +1

It's available on the high seas

      • And the high seas version runs better because it's DRM free, arrrr!

    • There is apparently a whole story about Empress and whatnot, only found out yesterday.

  • +2

This is the best Ubisoft game in a while and this game is mid as AF

    • Last good one I played was Division 2. Shame the DLC/End Game was grindy (although level designs good).

  • +3

    Waiting for $30

  • Definitely the best Harry Potter game ever made but it's quite flawed in some aspects IMO.

Attacking with the trigger but blocking with Y doesn't feel right to me (or I just suck), you're limited to four spells at a time (you need to unlock extra slots I think), broom flight controls are really weird/unintuitive, you need to constantly visit vendors to get rid of loot (unless you're ok with simply destroying it) and the loot isn't that satisfying to get either.

The best way I can describe this game is that there were some really talented people on the team but there were also some people who seemed to have zero experience making a game before.

  • Honestly I bought this game for my 12/14 boys who were big into harry Potter and they got about 30hours out of it. Exploring a bit ect. But it didn't really stick. Kinda boring

  • +1

Shame the game isn't an MMO. Would be super cool to level up a wizard and do various dungeons/bosses with groups.
