Hey everyone, Looking for a pedestal / tower fan for my daughter’s room.
Want a decent one that’s quiet and doesn’t use much power as it will be used a lot here in Qld and I don’t want my electricity bills going up more then they are.
Thanks

I have an older version from 2018 - has been an excellent fan - quiet and lots of options. I'm not sure what the new version is like in comparison.
We've got 3 of 'em. :)

Any of these would be good
Nope, some of these brands rattle.
Something in DC
If you want quiet and power efficient
Something in DC
hah i dont know what i expected
They are quiet and the solar uptake there is high…
decent one that’s quiet and doesn’t use much power
All fans are quiet and doesnt use much power at setting number 1. They will all produce some sort of a noise at mid level. It is hard to defy physics.
Ha. Try getting one from Kmart or Target with the metal blades, and on first setting it still sounds like a jet.
our 50cm is not quiet on low and moves more air on low then smaller fans on their highest setting
it is what it is
Sounds like our Anko 50cm model on clearance atm.
Happy with the noise for 5-blade performance.

You're on fire with this post jv, you might need a fan.
If you own the home you should consider a split system for her room. A fan won't cut it in a heatwave.
No wonder why kids are soft these days. When I was growing up we didn't even have a single air conditioner in the whole house, let alone a personal one in the bedroom. We had to go to a friend's house or the shopping centre.
walking barefoot on bitumen to get to and fro as well?
.
Uphill both ways and no shade as well.
@JIMB0: You were lucky. We lived for three months in a paper bag in a septic tank. We used to have to get up at six in the morning, clean the paper bag, eat a crust of stale bread, go to work down t' mill, fourteen hours a day, week-in week-out, for sixpence a week, and when we got home our Dad would thrash us to sleep wi' his belt.
And you try and tell the young people of today that … they won't believe you.
@DashCam AKA Rolts: Luxury.
Used to getvup half an hour befire we went to sleep, lick road clean wi' tongue, and when we got home our Dad woukd kill us and dance on our graves.
We didn't even have AC in the car, let alone at home.
parents these days: my kid cant go to school in 37 degree heat!
me remembering the days of getting cooked alive in the hall during 45 minute assemblies where they talked about useless *****.
There is a website that specialises in only fans.
(Sorry, it obligatory in any fan recommendation post)
For people looking in Sydney, there's a fan shop called Fans Only in Kogarah. Very easy to find if you type the name into your preferred search engine.
Get yourself a Goldair GCPF150 if on a budget..got mine for $50 and it's very quiet.
There are two I'd recommend.
1. yarratwo via Amazon
2. Xiaomi Standing Fan 2 or 3, some models with battery; sadly can't be sourced at the moment.
The Xiaomi Mi Smart Standing Fan 2. I’m seeing it for $330 and some for $140, is this the same or different models?
I have four of the 2S with battery; cost around $120 from Kogan back in 2020.
Smartmi Standing Fan 3 has a battery https://eu.smartmiglobal.com/pages/standing-fan-3
Similar to Mi Smart Standing Fan Pro https://www.mi.com/global/product/mi-smart-standing-fan-pro/
Best place to buy one?
@Twisty: With such limited supply of the Xiaomi models to our market, I'd go for the yarratwo and live without battery (for now).
how long does the battery last on low and high?
yarratwo went through another price hike
I had a bladeless floor Fan from Kmart. It good for bedroom.recommend.
Nothing beats my Xiaomi SmartMi fan with a battery. It's so convenient since I can just move it around the house.
Prices on them have gone insane though :(
I can’t even find one to buy they seem all sold out
How long does it last on battery (I know it is going to depend on speed).
The idea of a battery operated floor fan is odd to me… I just use extension cords/power bars if required.
Oh several hours. If you need to move it to another room or outside you dont need to deal with cords.
If youre really tight, you can charge it using your solar during the day then just have it running on battery all night.
Pedestal fan okay. Tower fans (which use axial blowers) are crap.
$15 pedestal fan from Kmart user here. It runs 8 hours a night (sleep comfy) and has done for 7 years now.
Just get one with plastic blades and it will be quiet.
For a given amount of airflow, the bigger the blade, the slower the fan, the lesser the noise.
Get a big blade fan.
not always, even at 50cm, some blade design moves to more of an air plane propeller type which flows more but is noisier. They need to spin faster to push air
I have tried to find the 50cm fan with the blade from the smaller 30cm and its pretty rare
So generally speaking, ship propeller type is quieter, doesnt need to spin as fast but at a certain point, flow increase tapers off the faster it spins. Air plane prop type flows more the faster you spin it but is noisier
https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-premium-dc-motor-pedestal… this one for a bit over $100 is the best pedestal fan I've ever owned. Super quiet. OOS at the moment though
