INIU 100w Powerbank Not Charging from Laptop Power Supply or PD Port

my new 100W INIU power bank is behaving a bit strangely so hoping to confirm if it user or product issue. (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/827956)

Main issue is Power Bank doesn't charge from a Dell 90W USB-C power supply/cable (model LA90PM170 Output: 5V/9V/15V/20V 3A/2A/3A/4.5A). Connected to INIU in/out port. When connected the INIU does nothing, whereas when other sources connected the display comes on and % digit flashes indicating charge coming in.

I'm almost certain it worked initially but then stopped after I was testing other out ports at the same time.

It charges from other sources OK, including Fast charge from Toocki 45w USB-C car charger and slow charge from various USB-A ports. The INIU also charges devices OK from all the ports, including the laptop from the 100W in/out port (45W out port gives low charge warning on laptop).

Could the issue be that the 90W charger is too much? INIU specs say it will only charge at 65W, but I wouldn't expect larger capacity charger not to work.

Secondary issue is the Power Bank doesn't charge from the laptop USB-C PD port but instead puts charge into the laptop (even with Dell PS is charging laptop via USB-C port 1). I guess the Power bank and/or Laptop don't know if they should be taking in or putting out power. Any way around this issue?

cheers

  • I found the product specs from iniu website which confirms your finding that max input is 45W (but double check it is the right model)

    Input 5V=3A 9V=3A 12V=3A 15V=3A 20V=2.25A 45W(Max)

The only definite way to charge your power bank via PC is to use usb A port on your laptop instead of C to C.

    • Max input is definitely 60w. I got one from the recent deal and have measured it. 20v 3a.

    • Looks like right model but I think specs have some mistakes for the output (carry over from old model B63 65w I guess).

Amazon listing says 65w IN and the instructions in the box also mentions 65w & 20v 3.25A so pretty sure 65 is correct.

I’d be happy to get 45w in but seems that ain’t gunna happen with this particular charger.

  • +1

They obviously don't play nicely for whatever reason. Not much you can do but use another power supply. I regularly have the same issue when using Apple branded PD supplies.

  • There is no reason the 90W charger shouldn't work.
Could be a bug in the handshaking software. It should negotiate 20V charging, 2.25A max.

  • Thanks all. Seems it just ain’t gunna work with this particular charger. Not a big deal since I’ll probably never use it, just unlucky it was the first I tested since power bank got delivered to work.

Have since tested with 67W apple, 100w Baseus and 45w Ravpower at home and works fine with all.
