Can I Change The Passenger on an AirAsia Flight?

Hi,

Problem: I booked an Air Asia flight, Melbourne to Kuala Lumpur, for 6/2/24. Looks like I made a mistake in that I'm the passenger on the flight, whereas the passenger should be my wife.

From what I can tell, Air Asia will let you amend a mistake in the name of a passenger, but won't let you change the passenger - which seems odd, what do they care who the passenger is, if they're getting their money? Especially if I could just modify the details in the booking myself, I wouldn't even need to involve any Air Asia staff.

The Air Asia bot is useless, and I can't get in touch with a human. I'm hoping someone can tell me if it's possible to change the passenger, or if I've just lost a large sum of money due to a small mistake.

Thank you.

  • Air Asia will let you amend a mistake in the name of a passenger

    This might help…

As to why airlines don’t allow name changes, it is to prevent brodening.
Tough luck my man and buy another one for your wife asap and then hope you can get a partial refund.

    • hmmm yes you broaden my horizon

Get your wife to identify as you. If they don't let her on board they are being namist. Then get onto your local Greens member.

call the voicemail number and leave them a message with your email contact number and booking, they will send you an email and you communicate that way.

"what do they care who the passenger is, if they're getting their money?" - you do know there was a terrorist attacked called 9/11? That sentence belong in the world before 9/11

  • If they allow passenger name change for free or minimal cost, what's stopping people from snapping up all cheap tickets during busy period and reselling them at a higher cost.
Airlines that allow passenger name change will also require you to pay the fare difference on top of a fee.

  • I've just lost a large sum of money due to a small mistake.

Making a mistake with the name for the whole booking isn't a "small mistake"!

    • I feel like a red flag should have gone up when they were entering their own passport details instead of their wife's.

  • Changing the person's legal name may be cheaper and easier. haha

  • what do they care who the passenger is, if they're getting their money

    Probably to prevent ticket scalping.
