$0 Rosetta Stone Subscription (1 Free Language Only Per Email Address) @ Rosetta Stone & EBSCO

5240

Full credit to HUKD

Cracking freebie here. Follow the steps below and you'll be learning your language in no time. I did this on iOS, however it doesn't matter what device it's done on (as long it's a mobile device). Overall this took me less than 5 minutes, so it's totally worth it! :)

Step 1:

Must be done on a mobile device (iPhone or Android, it does not matter)

1a) Download Rosetta Stone App. Google Play link iOS Apple App Store link
1b) Make a new account by clicking 'Get Started'.
1c) Choose Language(for this example I chose Arabic, but any language works!), enter your Email Address and Password
1d) Once created Log Out on the app. Do this by clicking the cog in the top right corner, scrolling all the way down and tapping log out

The first step is relatively straight forward.

Step 2:

2a) Press the "Go To Deal" button or click HERE
(See tips further down if you have trouble opening the page)
2b) On page enter the same details that were used in step 1c before. (Note for Username field enter the Email).
2c) Once details are filled out then click 'Sign In'. You should see a page like this if not, do not worry. Follow the tips further down and try again.

I struggled to get step 2 to work at first, however with persistence, I eventually got it! Hang in there, we're nearly done!!

Step 3:

3a) Go back to the App you downloaded before. On the App click 'Log In'. (Down the bottom)
3b) Click 'Work and School' Account type.
3c) Enter your Username and Password.
3d) Enter code "s8476284" in the "Workspace" area. Press sign in.

Success!

(You should see this screen)

Might be a good idea to download courses for offline use!

Tips if struggling to open the link in step 2:

  • Try Copy/Paste the link given in the description rather than following the 'Get Deal' button.
  • Due to shortened partially hidden URLs use: secure.rosettastone. com/lp/ebsco/?custid=s8476284 (and delete the space before 'com'!).
  • Try using Chrome browser if you're on an iOS device.

If you're getting an error signing in at the final step, please ensure you used the exact same details for step 1c and 2b.

Should you want more than 1 language then you can rinse repeat with another fresh Email Address.

Enjoy!

Any questions? Drop them below and I'll see if I can help!

    • Anyone else late to the party and having trouble? I saw the deal on the OzB newsletter this morning (Tuesday 30th).

If I use the link (copied and pasted from the notes on Step 2), I get a sign-up screen. There’s an option to reset the password but no log-in.

Then if I try to reset my password, entering my email address just results in “username not found”.

I’ve tried Chrome, incognito Chrome, and Firefox, all on iOS.

      • +2

It just worked for me from Mobile Android

  • +7

Holy shit! What a ripper of a deal. Amazing work Hamboi69. You put a lot of effort into creating these awesome deals for us.

    • +2

Cheers! Credits go to the OP on HUKD. I just tested it to make sure it works in Aus, plus get images to make it easier for others to follow along.

      • Ahh, you're right. Any languages you're planning on doing?

        • +2

Signed up to learn Arabic. :)

          • +1

@HamBoi69: Ahh nice. I'm planning on doing Spanish or French, or even my native tongue if that is an option.

ETA; Just realised my native tongue isn't here. Might as well do the next closest one, being Hindi.

      • Great. No Esperanto & between Chinese or Russian, I selected Mandarin, the world language of the Asian Century (if Esperanto is not chosen as much easier of them all;) I downloaded all locally on S23U to use in any location :)
        干杯 Gānbēi

        • How much space did it take up when you downloaded it all?

          • @Untalentedllama: 2.1GB with 10/20 lessons downloaded. Today 29/7 was reminder to start using it ;)

  • +2

    There’s no Indonesian? I’m outraged!

    • I'll add a list to the deal of available languages. :)

      • +12

I ended up signing up to Greek. About time I progressed passed the basics. I learned a bit of it years ago just so I could say, “I don’t know what you’re saying, it’s all Greek to me”

        • +3

Absolutely a fantastic pun. That made me laugh so hard.

        • Glad to know it worked!

        • +5

What an odd job to take up

          • +3

@Jonzay: ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) It took me a bit to remember what my OzBargain profile pic was

    • Strange I see Indonesian

      • +1

The web page has Indonesian but it wasn’t an option on the app (or at least on the iOS app). Based off of what I googled early, it’s probably because Indonesian is an incomplete course. They only offer basic and semi-intermediate lessons.

    • Tidak bahasha Indonesia di app

      • Ya, gak ada bhs indo di appnya

  • Nepali when :(

    • Probably best to ask EBSCO, who appears to be the source of the deal, why they didn't include Nepali in the options.

  • +1

    Thank you. Worked perfectly

  • thanks OP, just want to confirm, once i sign in using the link, and see the page like you put here, does it mean I have finished all the steps?

(1 Free Language Only Per Email Address)

They don't seem to have Kallawaya 😔

    • +2

      Does Dan Andrews speak Kallawaya?

      • -1

        Is that a rhetorical question?

      • No, but he does speak Inuktitut.

  • Any good?

  • Shame there's no Auslan

    • +12

Can you say that louder please?

  • That was easy enough to do. Thanks op!

  • +8

Is this better than Duolingo for effective learning?

  • +4

Thanks OP. I made the mistake of just selecting a random language thinking I could go back and change it later. Looks like I'll be learning Persian.

    • Try a second email!

      • That's what I'm doing right now 😁

  • +3

Probably the best freebie I've seen in ages. Super easy done in 2 minutes Thanx OP.

    • Thanks!

  • +1

    Thanks OP!

  • +4

Done, and made so easy with the excellent instructions, great work and thank you!

    • Cheers!

  • +3

    Splendid, Chose British

Always wanted to learn real engrish

    • +3

      It is innit?

    • +3

      Chinglish is more popular 哈哈

  • Trying to do a second account using a different email in my Samsung secure folder and it all worked until Step 3, then get username, password or namespace incorrect. Any ideas OP?

    • Try deleting the app the redownloading.

      • That didn't work unfortunately. :(

        • Did you log out from step 1 when doing step 2? Did you get the link to work?

          • @HamBoi69: Yes and yes. All seemed good until Step 3. Maybe because i'm trying to do it in secure folder when there's another instance of the app in main folder?

            • +1

@killabob: Perhaps. Like I said in the OP, I did this on iOS, not Android, so I’m of limited help here unfortunately.

        • +1

Had the same issue. On the EBSCO page, I clicked on the "Launch Rosetta Stone Foundations" link and it logged into the app for me. So that solved the problem for me.

    • You don't have to use the Secure folder, just use a different email and choose another language. Created 3 profiles for Spanish, French and German.
Tip: Create a map of the email-language pair and store it somewhere, if you're like me 😀

  • -1

    Worked !!

  • +1

Thanks. I'd get learning as no doubt they'll cancel this.

  • Work Great !
    Thanks OP

  • Thank you! Is this like a forever unlock or 6 months, 12 months etc?

    Either way, again thank you

    • I believe for just the one language. Unsure if after you’ve completed whether or not you can access it again. If you multiple languages, use multiple emails. :)

  • Worked well, thanks for the instructions :)

  • +1

Curious about the providence of the code. Seems to be one of those things offered to a specific corporate, and leaked. Not judging anyone, would just like to know for myself. Digging in Google suggest it may be linked to EBSCO, https://www.ebsco.com/

    • +1

Unsure about the origins. I believe this deal was first posted on MyDealZ in Germany, and then picked up on the UK site HUKD, and then I’ve posted it on here.

      • +2

Yeah all good, sharing is caring :-) Appreciate the detailed write-up and instructions!

    • I would agree with your observation. Hoping by downloading all lessons that I won't lose access but also figure this may get pulled at some stage too.

  • +1

Cheers for an awesome deal OP - give me a few decades and I'll have finally mastered the three languages I picked up.

Side note - how's Rosetta Stone compared to other options these days? I used it 15 or so years ago in school when it was one of the better digital options, but haven't touched it since - and I've had great success with Pimsleur in recent years.

  • For those that have used Duolingo and Rosetta Stone, any preference for a method of teaching that would make one better than the other or are they pretty much the same?

    • +3

Depends on your learning style and which language you're using. For reference I'm learning Mandarin. I've taken in person classes with a professional teacher for many years and for me something like Rosetta and Duolingo is an additional supplement to my learning. I personally don't think you'll be able to use courses and apps like this to achieve fluency. But it is good for doing revision.

I do like Duolingo because I can do it in smaller sessions a day, while it means taking longer to progress I find it less intimidating. I don't find Rosetta Stone as engaging. You should be able to find reviews on YouTube and Reddit for the language you're interested in.

      • +2

Great answer, thank you. I'm fairly cynical about the Youtube reviews as there is so much money these days in affiliation I have lost trust.

        • Oh yeah, definitely. It's heavily pushed by language learning content creators, so I'm cynical too. But they do show the courses and you should get a feel of it and whether it's right for you. Rosetta feels more like filling out worksheets which can be tedious and repetitive depending on your learning style.

          • @robotfrom1984: I do Duolingo and it's super gamified I think to avoid that. It doesn't sound like there is any major reason to switch at this point. As this is free though, maybe I'll give them both a go for a while. Need to find some more Spanish friends though it seems if I really want to learn.

  • +2

Won't be paying the subscription, but for FREE? Why not?

I prefer Babbel to any other apps, but Rosetta would be good for practicing/learning language from a different prospective.

I've created 3 accounts/3 languages for myself using . in the gmail email, and it worked without any problems.

Overall, a very good find! ++++

  • +1

Thanks a lot! Just signed up with 2 emails for Spanish (Latin America) and Mandarin.
Any idea how long it will take to learn enough of each language to surprise a native speaker or make them laugh?
    Cheers thanks!

  • +2

Thanks man. Hopefully they don’t nuke it. Time to learn some Spanish for South American trip.

  • +1

    Worked… Thanks OP..

  • +1

@HamBoi69 For Step 3, I just clicked the first link on the web page in Step 2 and it worked.. I was getting incorrect password in Step 3 and clicking the link just worked. Thanks.

    • Cheers!

  • Thanks OP worked perfectly, signed up for a few different languages no issues

  • +6

About to level up my Banh Mi ordering game

  • Also, I think this might only be for 12 months (or less if they nuke the deal)? Luckily no billing info collected or required.

  • Seems like you can click “Use Offline” button, which will allow you to use the downloaded unit(s) for 30 days (in case they cancel the deal for our Ozb “workplace”).

  • Worked for me thanks OP and hukd

  • +2

Good deal but shame there's no Thai, looking to learn this year

  • Worked amazingly! Thank you

  • +1

Chose Chinese (Mandarin) and Spanish (Latin America).
    Gracias OP

  • I can has Engrish

    I am a table!

  • Amazing. Worked for me! Downloading all the modules now just incase they clue on.

    • Not sure how that helps? It says it'll only be available for 30 days and then you need to log in. So they could just deactivate your account and you have useless files.

Unless you extract the raw data rather than relying on the app, then that's a different story.

  • +1

Anyone made much progress with this program? I gave Vietnamese a go and find it extremely difficult. I'm thinking this might work as a supplement to actual language classes, but as a standalone it seems insufficient. Or maybe I just suck at learning languages.

    • +4

If you do not have experience learning a second language, it takes a while to figure out what learning methods work best for you and to convince your brain it needs to learn a new language. Most successful language learners use multiple resources. If you are struggling with Rosetta Stone, try something easier to start with like Duolingo, some youtube videos, or a beginners textbook. Also, Vietnamese is a hard language for an English speaker to learn. You may have more success with one of the Western European languages.
