update/edit: sorry, it's actually the Samsonite Compact as per listing, not the Windguard as per reviews below - credit/thanks to @settler for identifying my mistake :(

Yeah but they're massive. I only pull that out if I'm going to be in the rain for an extended period.
Is there any portable style of umbrella that can be kept in a backpack but expands out to a bunnings size one?
Not quite as big as classic Bunnings umbrella, but my Clifton has served me well:

Only issue I’ve had is the leatherette handle skin peeling off. That reminds me, I should put some racquet grip on there
+1 for Clifton, best kept secret.
link please, what have I been missing
Blunt umbrella are also great
I have two Blunt compact umbrellas, paid half price for them during the last Christmas sale so I've only had them for a short while and can't really comment on their quality and longivity.
One thing I find is that they're on the bigger side and don't have the compact look when folded compared to other compact umbrellas, I can only just fit them in my messenger bag.
I have the compact and executive.
My EDC bag is 22L, compact fits fine, but yes, slightly larger vs other compacts, but its sturdy, which I value in this strong wind climate. They feel durable
A couple of review mentions of too compact cooled my enthusiasm.
The link leads to a different umbrella. Compact umbrella not the Windguard Compact Auto Open/Close Umbrella. The Windguard version appears to be $60ish.
Yup definitely different umbrella
If you’re not worried about colour the Mango Windguard is $45
Good pick up mate
Yes, the one OP refers to is out of stock on Amazon US: https://www.amazon.com/Samsonite-Windguard-Auto-Close-Black/…
Also, from what I can tell there doesn’t seem to be a ‘Windguard Compact Auto’—you either get a Windguard Auto (12”) or a Compact Auto (10”).
sorry for the delay - thanks for identifying my mistake :(
Does it compare to the Blunt umbrellas?
Lol, hard pass:

But it seems you have to be chewing on it for 40 minutes a day.
I would buy some Amazon Nicotine Gum along with the umbrella to prevent this. But it seems you have to be chewing on it for 40 minutes a day.
Alright now i know the limit is 39 minutes a day. Will keep that in mind. 🙃
I found the umbrella very chewy. I guess this is why.
Mate if you avoided all products that the state of California labelled that way you'd be starving in the nude somewhere.
It shows up as $34 for me
I have one. It's very heavy so I just keep it in the office for emergencies.
Nothing beats Bunnings umbrella
