[NSW] Cherry $10.99/kg @ Station Fresh, Kogarah Town Centre

120

Saw this when I pass by station. Quality various but you can hand pick, unlike many fruit store cheat customer and pack bad ones in the middle if the box.

5 minutes I was able to pick out 1.5 Kg really big and hard ones, some don't have stems but not affecting the quality. My experience in other fruit stores suggest this normally goes for at least $30 / Kg. I think the shop put it on sale due to the variation of quality with the batch.

Not sure how long this will last but worth a look if in the area.

For comparison Woolies and Aldi almost double the price and at least 1 size smaller.

    Is picking out really allowed?

Seems like OP has already Cherry Picked this deal.

      • Sorry I meant generally speaking, for any shop, if it does not say picking is not allowed?

        • You can do that in Coles and Woolies.

Most fruit stores now prepack their cherry and that is what I mean about the cheating, They systematically put the bad ones in the middle so visually looks good from outside of the box but only half is actually acceptable.

          • @syswong: The bad ones are usually put there by those that cherry picked before you.

            • @Jef Tino: I think there is two side of the argunment…..

On one hand customer wouldn't want to pay for bad stuff. Picking can be done in Coles and Woolies because they can absorb this cost, but when come to fruit stores their argument is they are small business and with this particular commodity so expensive they can't afford to let people pick, and many customers know this. So it become a paradox, and less and less people are willing to buy cherry from fruit stores.

I of course side with customer on this particular issue. Also if this store is able to sell large acceptable quality cherry at this price, I wonder how much profit is other fruit stores making from this product.

  • Just pick another 1.5 Kg (roughly 100) for my parents. They seem to have stock.

  • Cherries still available but price is now $10.99/kg.

I update title to reflect price change, Still way cheaper than anywhere else for this size.

      • Yeah, Woolworths next door is charging $18.90

        • Same for Aldi and both stock are at least one size smaller.

I ask the guy how they can sell at this price… he wasn't telling🤣🤣
