Which Dyson Stick Model Is Value for Money at This Point?

Hi.. I have Dyson V6 and it has had a fantastic run for 7-8 years now without any major maintenance except change of battery. Whilst I am looking to buy a new one for home, I am a bit out of touch with the models currently in market. The latest model is typically the most expensive one but slightly older models usually offer a good value for money, more so if they are in a deal. I am after such a model. If I can still manage with an old V6, I can pretty much manage with any model after it. However, I am looking for a good balance between the features and the price so that the newer purchase can run for a long'ish period. Can someone please recommend which model should I go for? It is for hard flooring if that makes a difference. Thanks for your advice.

How do you define “value for money”? That’s incredibly subjective and differs from one person to the next.

I don’t consider any Dyson product value for money.

Which alternative do you use? I spent about $360 (after some Amex cashback) for Dyson V6 in 2015 if I recall correctly.. it's still going strong. If this isn't value for money, I am not sure which one is.

Shark IZ102 I got in the sale for $279. Works very well.

    • Not sure about these has anyone used this. Or is it like hit or miss?

  • If the v6 does the job get the oldest one you can find cheap.

I've owned 2 x V6's over the past 8 years or so. I bought a V8 last year and it's been bloody excellent. The anti-tangle head or whatever it's called is brilliant. No more cutting hair out of the roller with scissors.

    • Good to know!

I went from an v8 to a v10 some years ago and the change between the two is chalk and cheese. Sucking power and battery life from the 8 to 10 is miles ahead.

OP see this for more info and can decide if the extra cost is worth it for you:

That being said I would cross shop that with a Miele Triflex of some sort. I love my old Cat Dog Miele but the cordless is so much easier; but when it comes to really cleaning something I will use the Cat Dog

I have a V8 and I can wholeheartedly say that if you're after value for money, this is not it. Paid about $500. Never worked very well - and in fact I am now waiting for a replacement charger after it stopped working entirely. Less than a dozen uses since we bought it before it died on us.

Quite surprising.. have been using Dyson for years and never had such issues with a couple of models I have used.

Tiny bit out of date but still useful

You'll get the most value out of the thing you already own. Has it actually died or are you getting caught up in the marketing spin about "green lasers" and stuff like that?

I too have a V6 that's that age, hasn't had to replace the battery and it's going great.

Also since you're looking for hard floor, even a standard one will work fine. Don't get sucked (lol) into thinking you need a V10+++ with extra lasers and 50 times the suction power.

    • Not at all. My current V6 hasn't died but I need to buy another one in home, hence curious which one I should go for.

    • Cheers. Which model of Dyson does it compare with in terms of performance/ features?

I have a v10 (got it free in hard rubbish - basically new and with charger). I had tried other models and they were ok, hut v10 is powerful. Awesome for doing the stairs and the car.

    • Wow.. What's hard rubbish? Why was it in rubbish!

New people moved into a new build up the street. They were unpacking and just threw out a bunch of stuff. Also got a 55" smart tv.

    • Those are solid reviews and great price.

      • Yes reviews looks good. but there are some reviews where people complain as well. i wanted to know if any ozb has owned and used this particular vacuum.

      • let us know if you get this and how you like it or not. Thank you
