Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4090 GAMING OC 24GB Video Card $2859 Delivered @ AusPCMarket

350

Stumbled across this. Yes it's a lot of money, no it's probably not "worth it" etc, but it's the cheapest 4090 I can find by a mile and one of the few places that appear to have stock at all.

With the 4080s rumoured to only be better than the 4080 by 3-5%, this is still by far the king of the 40 series cards, even if it's $1000 more.

It's only money, can't take it with you.

EDIT: It was a clear case of bait and switch… I have reported them to fair trading.

It sucks that this is the only card that reliably does 4K gaming well… Been stuck around 1080p since the vista days. -_-

    • +7

Why havent you gone to 1440p?

      • +14

4k gaming is stupid imo, 1440p is where it is at if you want more than 1080p

        • +1

I agree, I wont be touching 4k till its got more market share/use. Atm its not worth it as playing ultra 4k doesnt last long with the same card

          • +1

@Caramel Please: Yep sustainable 4K gaming that takes advantage of the high refresh rate monitors is at least still 1 - 2 Gen of video cards away, if the 5xxx series cards have some major leap then maybe.

            • +2

@Tbargain12: If you're sitting at a desk and have your monitor 30cm away from you, and have a normal size screen you don't need 4K.

        • +10

4k looks way better. I agree though if you're playing on a smaller monitor it might not be the best to play at 4k. For me though i use my 75" tv so it makes a huge difference. 4k is a must lol

          • +8

@S1nn3r86: Been gaming in 4K with a measley 2080 on a 42" monitor for the last 3 years. I enjoyed all games. Never had to go low with details, usually at high, not ultra. But then again I can tolerate if a game runs 30-40FPS and accept the occasional frame rate drop as a trade off. Would rather have that then go back to a smaller screen with smaller res. Especially strategy games in 4K on a big screen. I even got my GF hooked on a few games as a non-gamer, but she demanded to only play on my PC because of the big screen.

            • +4

@goodwillN1: I got a 48" oled back when they very first came out. I could never go back to a smaller screen, and at that size and viewing distance you really do need 4k. Im with you, I will take a drop in FPS to have the extra screen realestate.

I'm gaming at 4K with an Asus PG42UQ OLED and ROG Strix 4090 Gaming OC… fkn mint šŸ‘ŒšŸ»

          • +1

@ry34: Yeah, Won't go back to 1080 gaming. Lol. Those were the days. and really can't stand it.

Playing with Alienware 34' Oled (The first one) 2 years soon and no dead pixels YET, 4080 ROG + 79003dx. My next upgrade will be next year once the 5*** is out and AFFORDABLE.

            • @Fredfloresjr: 1080P gaming is for APUs.

        • +1

Depending on the screen size. Have 42 C2 and dig it. The immersion with increased FOV is wayyy better.

        • Happily gaming on 1440p with 3080 Ti, does the job. 4090 is overkill.

        • 4k is so much clearer than 1440 if you are not on your couch

    • More like since XP days.

    • -2

      4k provides no benifit

get 3440x1440 best of both worlds

      Never drop below 100fps

      • +2

I can teel 4k is better and can swcure 120 fps with 4090 in any games

        4090 for 4k
        4080 or 70 for qhd

    • +1

4070 Ti Super, 4080/4080 Super also offer you straightforward 4K oathtracing performance?

You can push the 4070 cards too, just turn down from ultra/max to high. 3080, 2080 Ti, 3070 all have little to no problems with rasterised workloads and ligher raytracing (vs pathtracing, aka full raytracing).

Even putting the ignorance around 1440p aside, this is such a shallow opinion to hold.

    • I've been 4K gaming for the past year on the RTX 4080, it's fantastic (using DLSS or FSR where appropriate) on a LG C2 42" TV. You definitely don't need a 4090.

  • -3

    HODL

    • +2

      Not again please..

  • The boost for this card is quite low compared to others, and from benchmarks that does make a difference. You can run it at higher frequency and give it more power, but then it loses it's efficiency. Maybe it differs from card to card, and mine isn't great.

  • +16

RTX 4090 prices are still too expensive.

    • What does OP mean cannot take money with you, we all take money everywhere, to bus, shops, trains. gotta pay the fare with money.

      • +3

I think OP means you can't bring coins through a metal detector.

Or if your currency were somehow gold-plated swords or AKs. Those would be taboo at the airport too.

      • In case this isn't sarcastic, OP meant you can't take your money with you when you die.

    • Yup. Want close to maximum performance at a fair price? Get a 4080/4080 Super. Want an affordable but potent card that is VRAM rich for ML? That's the 4070 Ti Super or the 16GB 4060 Ti.

4090 is for very specific needs, or internet point scoring. If you need dual encoders, everything from the 4070 Ti and up works for you.

  • +11

    Nice find OP.

While I loathe hodl gang, at this point given you're paying launch prices but now more than 1/2 way through the gen, i'd be inclined to wait and save for 5080/90.

    • +4

it seems hodl doesn't work sometimes

      • Correct. All those HODLers for the past 12 months have failed as the GPU prices have not decreased much at all.

        • +7

Yep i bought this exact 4090 a year ago for $2799 (using ebay code). Been enjoying it for a year while others are HOLDing. Yes its an expensive purchase though.

        • -1

HODL only works if you forgot the condom, and make sure pull out on time.

    • +4

Indeed the following posts have been near the best prices so far for the high-end GPUs of this gen and they were all more than 6 months ago often with a free game included (also AUD to USD at the time of these deals was pretty much the same as it is today):

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/766902 4090 (RedFall…) $2564.05 on eBay (could use gift cards for further discount)

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/776847 4080 (Diablo IV) $1499 on eBay (could use gift cards for further discount)

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/784857 7900 XTX reference $1360

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/790145 7900 XTX non-reference model (Starfield Premium Edition) $1399

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/766289 RX 7900 XT (Last of Us Part I) $1167

There was plenty of available stock when I came across each of those deals browsing OzB at the time. The best 'value' was seemingly after retailers started to cut prices just a few months after release, when stock was not moving at anywhere near expectations. Paying more for less this late in the generation, with new GPUs expected at the end of this year, is not fantastic

  • Really that much of a deal? I paid 3050 on release.

    • +3

Price went up recently because america decided to give China a months warning for an export ban so China bought them all up before they werent allowed to.

  • The site says you can pay via Latitude but there's no option for it on checkout. :c

  • +2

It's only money, can't take it with you.

The same applies to nvidia :p I'd rather fine the price/performance ratio that lets me sleep at night knowing I rarely care about max graphics games.

    • +2

Yeah, if that is my attitude I would be broke by now. Plus I think it is against the "rule of OzBargain" :D

      • its against the OzB spirit. its uncle Jensen rule…

    • Bloody casuals. Watch as I take my 4090 into the afterlife.

  • This is the price of my entire brand new 4070 PC….. get out of here bro

    • +1

You can get a new 4080 PC for this price.

    • +1

      That's expensive

    • +8

I could get multiple Xbox's for the price of your 4070 PC. Also irrelevant.
I can't justify it over my 3080 - but slightly more tempting than when it was over $3k - pretty good deal if you're looking to spend that much.

    • You paid too much.

      • Depends on the timing.

        • He said brand new.

  • +1

    Another option? $2,759 Inno3D GeForce RTX 4090 ICHILL X3 24 GB

    https://www.austin.net.au/products/inno3d-geforce-rtx-4090-iā€¦

    • +1

      Soldout?

      • Had stock at time of comment, I guess somebody sniped it.

      • Brodened.

  • This GPU is a chonky one

  • +2

It's a beast of a card but will be interesting to see if there's much improvement with the 5090. Still $2900 for a GPU alone, would have to be a professional and getting heavy use out of the card for that price. Buying this just for 4k gaming + associated costs is insane when we know tech like this becomes outdated overnight, 3090 is a good example.

    • Even if you were gaming at 4k since the release and enjoying every bit, it still might be worth it if this is the only hobby and the disposable income level. But buying now after crossing the midway of the release cycle is kinda hard to justify. 5090 atleast as per the leaks would probably kick some serious azz. But who knows, it might be priced a 100USD or more over 4090 MSRP.

      • +1

Yeah I wouldn't be surprised if it's more than that on release and doubt they'll be selling to China on release too, MSRP might need to be a bit higher to fix those numbers. But yeah you're right if gaming was your only hobby and you have enough disposable income then why not but not when it's at the end of its generation. That almost fits my description but there was once a time this would have been almost 4 months rent for me so it's still hard to justify that price point. The gap between 4080 and 4090 is just too big and the 4080s isn't going to fix that by keeping 16gb VRAM.

  • They've caught on.

Showing as $3,389.00 now for me.

  • +7

"Dear Customer Unfortunately, an order placed moments before yours has allocated our last remaining stock of this product. As we're unable to fulfill your order we have issued you with a refund. Our apologies for the inconvenience caused. Kind Regards, Aus Pc Market"

Bait and switch? I dont know… guess im not getting my 4090. I did order before posting this up, but not enough.

    • +1

Rip, it's not like this deal was an ATL or an amazing deal as well.

      • +1

It was a good few hundred less.. $500 less than what they're asking now. It was nothing short of a bait and switch.

    • +1

If it shows still in Stock, not sure why they cannot allocate.

    • Total BS, they only want to sell @ their current price:

      $3,389.00

      • +3

Yep, bait and switch for sure. I bet if I order one now at the 'new price' it'll get allocated just fine.

  • +3

Can't believe these GPU's still haven't dropped in price. Would've expected them to be much closer to 2k by now. Picked up a 4090 Suprim Liquid X for 2.7k new May last year.

    • That is a sweet card, I price costed that locally even that card at $2700AUD was $500 too high even after USD and AUD conversion. Local retailers love jacking Nvidia prices.

      • 270$ GST as well

    • Ever heard of china and AI?

  • +2

It's only worth if you doing 3D modeling, Ai and other CUDA needed work.
And the 5000 series will drop later this year. So there will be better price drops.

I picked up the 7900XTX for $1300AUD last year, which makes the Nvidia tax look ridiculous except for professionals.
I hope people aren't picking between between buying a second hand car or a 4090 that's sad.

  • 24gb. That won't be enough in 2029?!

    • 32gb consumer cards hitting in 2025, yr maybe right.

      • What is your best guess for available vram in the ps6?

16? maybe 24gb shared with system dram? 32gb shared or 16/16 discrete would be the upper limit I'd imagine.

This will dictate game needs on next gen because most AAA titles will be based on console version.

        • Have no idea

  • +5

Ive reported them to fair trading.

    • Good on you. I definitely think buying before you even posted and it still got cancelled is incredibly suspicious.

      • yeah i was sure to order and ensure my money was taken before posting it here.

I was advised on whirlpool that a member there knows 2 other people who got the same message for the same product.

        • Yeah very dodgy then! Sorry to hear mate!

  • Looks like a good deal for 1600p gaming!

Gave away a 1440p monitor years ago, never looked,m back!
