Since when does an iPhone require 100W ?

    • Exactly!

    • I charge my MacBook Pro’s and windows laptop on the go when I’m in a pinch. Gets the MacBook up to about 80%.

    • -2

2034 when iPhones catch up to androids.

Max output on a single port is 65w so 2030 for iPhone 21

I’m often confused by power bank descriptions that include brand names that they charge. Isn’t a power bank just a battery with charging ports?

    • +10

Isn’t a power bank just a battery with charging ports?

Yes and no. It is a battery pack but it has built in protocols for the charging ports. So it isn't as simple as plugging anything in there and as long as there is battery it will charge.

The cheap power banks can usually only output 15-20w so only suitable for small accessories like phone, watch, buds. This one can do 100w so they specifically name macbook in the description so when people are looking for a macbook charger they will get this power bank as part of their search.

Some brands have their own proprietary technology such as Xiaomi turbo charge or OnePlus supervooc and this power bank is not compatible with those.

      • Yes, agree with macbook or even adding laptop, but why did it need to mention iPhone. If just for iPhone, 100w is overkill. IPhone can only do Max charge rate of ~26w.

        • So Apple users know that they can use this for their MacBook and is also compatible with their iPhone

          • @CodeXD: Almost any power bank will work on iPhone. Some may not fast charge, but will work nonetheless. Should we also list every Android model that exists since it's compatible with them too?

            • +2

@aarick: You're absolutely correct. but not everyone is tech savvy. some people just want to search "portable iphone charger" and buy something which says in the title that it'll get the job done.

they don't know about the details, don't care abotu the details, have no interest in finding out the details and will never know the details.

Which is why businesses write the titles the way they do - they see a difference in sales. Which hopefully answers the original question.

      • The cheaper power banks also charge slower. My 26800mAh only charges at 18W, takes a long time.

        I have a Romoss PPD20 20000mAh that charges and discharges 45W, a lot more user friendly .

My older Baseus Blade HD Laptop Power Bank 100W 20000mAh chargers at 65W

I guess it's just to grab people who will search for "iPhone Powerbank" or "MacBook power bank"

    • Different brands can have different charging protocols.

    • Because they are marketing to people who just wants things spilled out for them

I thought this was a coffee scale.

  • Isn't this the same but $4 cheaper?

FYI, they have recently released blade2, (has not landed in aus yet) with less capacity(65W 12000mah), but a lot thinner, and lighter (430g vs 320g), which is more suitable for someone like me. (Also, just noticed that they have 140W 24000mah one coming soon, too.)

  • +2

Code incorrect when I try. Also, ebay plus discount is $17, not $20.

FYI, these powerbanks have charging issues.

Also a pain trying to get money back

    • +1

Have the old version for a year, had issue once when new. Full drain and full recharged fixed it and never had an issue with it since. Love this powerbank due to the thin form factor and charge speed. I use it daily.

  • +3

this is usually $80 or less …

    • For the old version. Haven't seen the upgraded version at this price yet.

The Blade Pro was ~$70 (eBay Plus, ~$72 otherwise) during the black Friday sales. Great deal but the current ~$83 is decent.

There was not a specific deal posted for it - just linked in the comments of the standard Blade model deal.

I assume these work with dells/hp/etc any laptop with USB-C pd charging?

    • Yes, it does

    Able to carry on plane?

    • Yeah i think 20000mAh, you can bring into cabin

      • 25,000

        • +1

          up to 100 watt-hours or 27,000mAh in carry-on luggage

          • @Sillen: yes, but 20,000/25,000 is a lot more common than 27,000 which sell for a premium

    • Yes, this is below the threshold of 27000mah or 100wh.
      https://www.qantas.com/au/en/travel-info/baggage/dangerous-g…

    • Under 100Wh is fine, which is usually equivalent to about 27000mAh (27Ah) in power banks.

But it's unlikely they would do the maths to convert 27Ah to 99.9Wh.

So you will need Wh clearly printed on the power bank if they ask.

      • +1

But it's unlikely they would do the maths to convert 27Ah to 99.9Wh.

They do check the Wh on the battery label.

Mine got checked at security both inbound and outbound over Xmas.

        • That was because of your footy jumper. They like a bit of glove work on Eddie's boys

OP the code you’ve quoted requires a minimum purchase of $100.

Love this model. Can fast charge anything I threw at it and the best feature is the fast recharge time (~1 hour using the 65w charger). Hopefully it last long.

  • Honestly thought the thumbnail is a coffee scale, 100W to heat up the cup while weighing.

MSJAN17 brings it down to $82.99

How often does one actually use this though? I have a 245W GaN charger that is very light and portable to carry and I can charge like 5 devices at the same time. The charger also has multiple adaptors for easy swapping depending on the plug type. I normally carry that and a 20,000mah 55W battery bank and I'm good to go. Most of the time when I travel, I can get by easily with my phone and tablet and my battery bank just sits in my bag, I don't even need to take it out. My bag has a USB-C cable in the shoulder strap area and I can just take that and plug in, very easy to do quickly even while I'm moving about.

I can see that this would be useful for someone who travels like every week for work or whatever and need to carry their laptop with them at all times AND will not have access to a charging point 99% of the time. But that use case is so rare. It's unlikely you can't charge your laptop or even need to charge on a frequent basis.

    • +1

I like these because I tend to forget to charge my regular sized powerbanks and I can trust on these high capacity ones as an emergency (if I'm in a hurry to leave) as they'll have juice

      • -1

Most power banks that you can find these days are 20,000mah. I have 2 and they're both 20,000mah, only difference is the charging rate is not 100W.

I bought one from ebay. Didn't use it much and suddenly failed on me (after 1 year plus).

The customer support was pretty responsive and even refunded me the full retail amount (I paid less with ebay discounts).

The device itself was decent while it worked. A bit bulky though.

I've since gotten the anker 737 which works well for my legion go.

  • 5 min of usage and the display started to fail… 😒
