The updated Pro model is worth the extra $18.

What's the difference besides the size and weight?

      • Wanna know too!

        • +3

Different cell chemistry, which is what makes smaller. No info on if it changes longevity, but likely not. The control circuitry appears to be the same. Note that it does shut down from getting too warm if drawing 100W for an extended period. But for running a laptop, the average draw is usually much lower, so no issue.

While I like these power banks for the form factor (and I have both) the non Pro model had some bad quality control early on, and many reports of failed cells. Not sure if the current non Pro models are better in that regard (likely they are) but the Pro would hopefully avoid such issues entirely.

          • @Prong: I would have thought a 15 inch laptop or MBP could easily pull 100W while charging and powered on.

            • @chyawala: At peak yes, but most won't do it continuously. A gaming or other laptop with good thermals definitely would. On the load tester, the Blade shut down after outputting 100W for over 30% of the capacity. 10 or 15 minutes or so of output.

Using my Dell Inspiron 16 7610 as an example, it has a mobile GeForce RTX 3060 so Dell rate it for up to 130W peak.

But if trying to sustain that for very long, the terrible laptop thermals mean it throttles back down to much lower continuous power draw. It can't use more power, because it can't dump the heat. It overheats and throttles before the power bank does, because the power bank is dealing with much less heat - perhaps 10W or so, mostly in the voltage step up circuitry.

Probably if you had the laptop battery at a low state of charge, and were running it flat out, it could sustain enough power draw to cause the Baseus power bank to get too warm and cut out. So if gaming or something, then a higher quality power bank would be a good call!

But in my use I have never had an issue.

I am curious though, so when I get a chance, I will see how high a power draw I can get the 7610 to sustain.

        • -2

          smaller and lighter

    • Can the new one do 100W charging all the way to zero?

      • +4

Nope - the thermal abilities (or lack thereof) appears to be identical. (I have both, and have stuck them on my load tester.)

That said, I use it with a laptop that can pull the full 100W, but even when charging it during heavier use, the average draw was low enough that the Blade never cut out from overheating. Probably for the average user, you'd need two high power devices both running from the power bank to sustain overall power draw to the point it overheats.

with code BF20AU , the updated Pro model is $ 72

    • Really good price for this. It's the same model as the Blade HD sold in the US market.

  • +5

Great powerbank; I used it for 3 months overseas for my Surface, phone, earbuds etc. Charges really fast too with the 65W charger I had. Also fits perfectly in the Inateck pouch thing

  • Would this be a good option for a Steam deck on the go?

  • +3

Be aware that when it falls, and you claim warranty, they'll refund your transaction via PayPal with fees "charged by PayPal". They'll then suggest that it'll be up to you to investigate why PayPal have charged them.

    • +2

Sounds like a bank manager I spoke with. I noted that some online transactions had been cancelled and refunded by the merchant, but still got smoked for the overseas transaction fees. The manager just said, " Did you initiate the transaction?''. They also went on that it was their cost of doing the currency conversion. I noted that would be in the terrible exchange rate, not the additional overseas transaction fees. That was good bye to CBA.

  • This or ZMi No 20 or Anker 737? Need one for 65w laptop for overseas trip

    • -1

I don't have good impression on ZMI product. I bought an expensive ZMI powerbank and it was died within three months with light use. I haven't tried Anker 737. But Anker 737 costs much more.

    • +10

The ZMI No.20 and Anker 737 are much better power banks, but much more expensive.

The UGREEN 140W 25,000mAh is another excellent choice, and on sale for $140.
      https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0BJQ7F16T

The Blade is great is you like / want / need the thin form factor. It fits well in a bag IMO. The key downside is that it can't sustain the 100W output for the entire capacity (the ZMI and Anker can) but for a 65W laptop that won't be an issue. These original Blade power banks also had hit and miss QC, but not sure if that is still an issue. Definitely for an overseas trip there is a chance you will have an issue. The Blade Pro for $70 is smaller and seems not to have the same issues.
      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/314883600346

Another cheap but good option IMO is the INIU 100W, 25,000mAh model. $68 delivered currently.
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/810108
The INIU 45W 15,000mAh power bank is only $40 delivered with the same code in the link above. It will charge a laptop fine, but not at the full 65W. That may not be an issue though.
      https://iniushop.com/en-au/products/iniu-power-bank-bi-b62-1…

Even cheaper is the Baseus 65W, 20,000mAh power bank. I don't have this one, but it seems like a quality unit, and ~$50 on eBay.
      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/313876486910?var=612602680291

The Xiaomi Mi 50W, 20,000mAh is another popular one here. $55 right now on eBay.
      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/374662250087

If you like to live dangerously, the Heymix 100W 20,000 mAh is $60 on Amazon currently. I bought one just for fun and it seems decent enough. Though the Heymix reputation for not caring about quality control would suggest it is not a good choice.
      https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0CC63LDHB

If it were me, at the higher end I would buy the UGREEN 140W. If my budget didn't extend to $140, I'd get the INIU 100W. If not that then then the Blade Pro. And if not that then the 65W Baseus.

      • Yea, I was contemplating buying a UGREEN 140W 25,000mAh over this deal. However, can't justify upgrading from ZMI NO.20, hoping 200W single pull will be on the horizon and in the same smaller form factors soon. But completely agree with your view about UGREEN and INIU, but I would squeeze in ZMI as number 2 spot after UGREEN.

        • +1

Oh yeah I didn't explain well. At the right price, UGREEN, ZMI and Anker over any of the others.

But if not going for a higher budget option (or if is not needed), then out of current deals, INIU 100W, Blade Pro, 65W Baseus.

For upcoming power banks, CUKTEK will be the one to watch IMO. They are the OEM behind the ZMI no 10 and no.20, combined with the ZMI team. They will have some nice power banks in the future I suspect. The CUKTEK no.15 and no.20 also look good, but hard to get at a decent price.

          • @Prong: Any idea on Charmast 20000mAh Power Bank

            https://amzn.asia/d/esvyuS4

Currently can get it for $75.

            • +2

@Yogi555: It looks fine on paper, but I am not sure beyond that. It appears to be from the same OEM as the VEEKTOMX 100W.

              https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B09BCT219C

What stands out to me is 45W input. I would bet that it won't be able to output 100W for the full capacity without thermal issues - which is normal in this price range. It's probably a perfectly fine power bank, but for $75 not very compelling IMO.

I think the 100W, 25,000 mAh INIU is a better deal.

      • I noticed that you didn't recommend Anker 737 at the end. May I know if it's pure because of the high cost or other reasons?

        • I just worded it poorly. I meant that at current prices, the UGREEN 140W was my pick out of Anker, ZMI and UGREEN.

But they are all much better power banks than the cheap options listed.

The Anker 737 is great, but the form factor means it might be better or worse for some people.

If the UGREEN, ZMI and Anker were all the same price, then it would be a tough pick! I prefer a flatter form factor, but the Anker is the most compact. The ZMI is the least compact, but arguably has the best tech and highest quality cells.

What ZMI model did you have that failed?

      • I think for these list of powerbanks,
we also need to list the weight of each of them.

The Anker 737 could be a "much better power bank",
        but it's over 600g heavy,
so can easily add to hand luggage weights, if traveling.

        • +3

Weight is pretty similar across similar capacity power banksand not a difference that will be important for hand luggage IMO.

          Anker 737 - 633g
          UGREEN 140W - 505g
          ZMI no.20 - 583g

          Blade - 510g
          Blade Pro - 440g
          Baseus 65W - 550g
          INIU 100W - 490g
          Xiaomi 50W - 550g
          Heymix 100W - 383g (yikes!)

    • I have a Zmi No 20 and had it since July last year and goes strong and with me in my handcarry for all my travels. @HappyBargainer I thin you just had a bad bank as I use this charger for charging my laptop, GPD Winmax 2 switch and steamdeck all the time.

  • How this compare to Anker 737 power bank which costs a lot more?

  • How do we workout how long this powerbank will last charging my work laptop (with the following specs)?

    HP Long Life 3-cell, 56 Wh Li-ion
Support HP Fast Charge (up to 50% in 30 minutes with 65 W AC adapter)

    • +2

The 20,000 mAh power bank is 74Wh.

When in use, you lose about 15% due to efficiency losses (and this model is actually quite efficient).

The laptop then has efficiency losses when charging. At least another 15%, but possibly more.

So to make a comparison, then discount the power bank Wh by 30%. (40% if you want to be sure, or for other less efficient power banks).

So 74Wh from the power bank, adds about 52Wh to your laptop battery. So this power bank won't quite do a full charge of the HP 56Wh battery.

If you are also using the laptop while charging, then that will consume some power too.

You would need a 90Wh or higher power bank (25,000 mAh or higher) to be reasonably sure you will get at least one full charge.

  • I bought one of these and the first time it worked fine, the second time it worked until it got to 25% charge then suddenly went 0%. The third time it got to 50% charge and went to 0%. I don't recommend them.

  • Thanks got pro one

  • Thanks OP! My surface pro battery sucks - this will help greatly.

  • I had the original blade 100w powerbank and the cell failed within a few weeks. They refunded me eventually though so that's good. Keen to try the new pro hd model, if they've fixed their quality these would be amazing with the slim form factor
