[Prime, SUBS] Live Streaming of All Cricket World Cups and ICC Events Held from 2024 to 2027 @ Prime Video

2450

Hello everyone, I was reading some news that some NBA, MLS and NHL matches will be streamed on Amazon Prime Video in the U.S.
And I thought what do we get here in Australia?

So after a search I came across this deal. For all the Cricket fans out there.

For people that don't have Prime Video, don't panic.

Communications minister Michelle Rowland last week introduced laws to parliament updating anti-siphoning measures that would require free-to-air services to be offered first refusal for important sporting events.

All the details on the link.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) and Prime Video have inked a four-year deal to provide exclusive livestreaming broadcast rights in Australia for ICC major events, which will be available on Prime Video Australia.

The partnership will see Prime Video Australia exclusively stream all men’s and women’s events, including the Men’s and Women’s Cricket World Cups, T20 World Cups, Champions Trophy, U19s and the World Test Championship Final. The deal includes streaming rights in Australia for 448 live games from 2024 to 2027.

Users who wish to Block "Additions to Streaming Services" can do so by clicking on the Streaming Service Addition tag, then clicking the 3 dot menu, then clicking hide on new deals and/or front page. Ensure that on the home page, the new front page is selected for customisation to show. Video Instructions here or More info here.

still need a subscription to amazon isn't it?

    • +29

      What gave it away?

      • +1

        Not Jeff B

    • +1

If I'm not wrong based on the descriptions provided above, as long as you are an Amazon Prime member, it is free for you. No additional subscription needed.

  • +7

Fantastic I officially will never need to leave home

  • +2

Just in time to be served more ads from prime

    • It's such a shame. I just can't watch ads anymore, so Prime is dead to me when it starts.

      • +2

Are you referring to the single skipable preview that comes on when you first select a show?

        • +1

They are also going to serve other ads as well

    • +15

      Yes

    • +29

I don't watch or follow Cricket, but I shared for everyone here that does.
Remember we are all different but also the same.

    • +4

Never too old to watch a 35 year old legend only now become an opening test batsmen.. 😅

    • You say that like it's a bad thing?

    • Damn I've hit a half century

  • +5
    • -1

Didn't realise it was so long ago.

Edit: It feels like it was just last week I was reading people b*tch and moan about it on Reddit.

    • And you neglected to tell us?!?!

      • Didnt realise ozbargainers didnt listen to the news, i think i heard it half a dozen times on the radio that day, but i drive for a living so thats probably why.

  • Why is it marked "tomorrow"?

    • +9

This includes access to the 15th edition of the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup, which will be played across five venues in South Africa starting 19 January.

    • +6

The percentage of people that get Prime solely to watch content would be very small. To the vast majority of people this would be an added bonus (especially if you were going to pay for Kayo just for the cricket)

      • I agree.
Although without knowing the rest of the schedule its getting very messy with channel 7, Kayo and now Amazon all hosting some forms of international cricket.

    • +4

Users who wish to Block "Additions to Streaming Services" can do so by clicking on the Streaming Service Addition tag, then clicking the 3 dot menu, then clicking hide on new deals and/or front page.

    • More content without an additional cost, in this case it's content that wouldn't all be available free to air. If a streaming service reduced their content and made it cheaper you'd find it on here… what's the difference?

      • -2

Explain how its a deal when previously I could watch for free on Channel 7/9 but now I need to pay money to watch as its behind a paywall.

        • +1

You would only have gotten a very limited amount of games (Aus) before.
Amazon Prime streaming is essentially considered 'Free' to most of us who would be Prime members just for free postage, even if nothing was streamed.

        • +2

Think of it as a post to say, hey everyone who has Amazon Prime or access to it (I would wager at least 50% of those here), tomorrow you can access this stuff which you previously did not have access to with your sub.

        • I just did. You either didn't read my post or didn't understand it.

    • +3

Its a deal coz it would be $28 a month if Kayo had it

      • +1

Kayo has everything else though, now you have to own both subs to stream all cricket, before I only needed Kayo

        This is a net negative

        • +2

          Net negative for you

          • @Big L: For all sports lovers who have Kayo/Fox AKA the majority of sports fans in Aus

    • +1

You'd really only get Australian games on FTA. This does seem like it would include all games like Afganistan vs Netherlands.

      • But this deal means you will now get ZERO games on FTA. Enjoy. :)

        • +2

          Enjoy I will. I don't watch FTA.

        • Why would free to air show anything other than Australian games, when 90% of the population don’t care and they can’t sell ads for it .

  • -1

Next will be the NRL and AFL deal posts. You can stream it on Kayo which saves you X about compared to standard foxtel.

  • +3

"Wah this isn't a deal and blah blah blah…" End quote, whiners.

    Thanks for sharing OP

  • -1

    Where is the bargain?

  • +3

Amazing news - thanks for sharing, glad I won't have to deal with Kayo again!

    • Im unsure if it includes ALL games that you would be interested in watching, such as away test series etc

      • That's true - still, great to have something!

        • Yes with Kayo prices going up it would be great if we could ditch it, but with exclusive BBL and AFL exclusive games amongst other things its hard to give it up.

  • is it streaming in 4k?

any hacks to get cheap prime membership?

    thanks

    • +2

Not a hack, but paying annually is cheaper than monthly. Even more so if they raise the monthly price. I'm still on old pricing and they put the price up 6 months ago, my annual plan hasn't renewed yet.
Plus if I ever get a late delivery I'll hit up support for a free 1 month extension on Prime, this has always worked.

      • What's considered a late delivery?

    • -1

Mastercard/Amazon Prime deals have been posted here recently. I'm currently on a 3-month free trial. Haven't used Amazon once since it started though!

      • +1

watch some of the U19 games, starting tomorrow then.
Must make it worthwhile having it!

        • Yes I might give it a try to see how the platform handles live sport.

Thought that maybe the AFL were heading in the direction of carving out part of the broadcast rights to sell to Amazon. Such as introducing Monday night fixtures. Maybe in the next broadcast deal.

  • Excellent,I do watch cricket and my Smart TV doesn't have kayo app compatibility.so the only option is Foxtel that costs ridiculously
    Thanks OP

    • +3

Google TV stick or an Amazon Firestick would be a very cheap fix to that problem in case you're not already aware

      • -4

No dude. Then there’s two remote. It’s not convenient. Better buy a new smart tv ( android os one )

  • This is great. However this is only for ICC events. To watch any bilateral series or IPL still need to rely on Kayo.

  • How much cricket can one watch ?

  • Kayo 35$/m crying in corner.

  • +6

    Not easy following the cricket:

    • Australian men's Tests and all women's internationals on home soil: Seven, Fox Cricket, Kayo
    • Australian men's limited-overs internationals on home soil: Fox Cricket, Kayo
    • ICC events (male and female): Amazon Prime
    • Men's Ashes tours in 2027 and 2031: Nine Network
    • Other Australian men's internationals on foreign soil: Fox Cricket, Kayo
    • Women's internationals on foreign soil: Fox Cricket, Kayo
    • KFC BBL and Weber WBBL: Seven, Fox Cricket, Kayo
    • Marsh Sheffield Shield, Marsh One-Day Cup and Women's National Cricket League: CA Live app and cricket.com.au (select games, including Shield final, on Fox Cricket and Kayo)

    • -1

Well it was fine, you own Kayo and the rest were FTA

Amazon has come along and (profanity) it up, now you need more than 1 streaming service to get it all.

If you are a cricket fan there is 0 way this is saving you money, it all costs more now

      • +1

It's saving me money, I won't subscribe to Kayo and only watch FTA but have prime

        • How is it saving you money when you're spending either the same amount or more? Do you understand the concept of maths and budgeting?

      • Well you basically just need to alternate between Kayo and Prime ie. drop subscriptions as necessary, and sign back up. There might be periods where you need both at the same time though..

        • Need Kayo all year round for Footy/Cricket

          so dropping doesn't work

    • 2027 and 2031 will be shared by Foxtel (and Kayo) and Nine. No more having to have Hardly Normal ads interrupted by cricket. Hopefully even 4K by then.

      https://tvblackbox.com.au/page/2023/11/06/ashes-broadcast-sp…

So the ICC Mens T20 tournament is in the month of June (first game 1st - final 29th). Might get Prime Video for just a single month, which isn't too expensive.

  • I stopped watching cricket when Steve Waugh got his century in his last test match.

  • +2

The best thing about this deal will be the broadcast quality. 4k I would expect which is a billion times better than anything channel 7 has ever done.

    • Channel 7 9 and 10 took years to go to 1080. Doubt they'll ever go 4k. They'll be shut down by then because no one watches free 2 air anymore

    • I worry it'll be much worse than (admittedly expensive) Kayo. And I wonder where they will source commentary from.

      • Disney Star (India) provide the world feed for all ICC events. It would be the same commentary team if the game was broadcast on FTA or Fox Cricket.

        • Kayo and 9/7 have a team back at home during the breaks, I assume Amazon will forego that

    • Kayo is starting 4k at the end of the month, they sent out emails

  • Does this mean the world cup events will only be streamed on prime and won't be available on Kayo?

    • exclusive livestreaming broadcast rights in Australia

      So yes

  • +1

Good news for Prime members… No Need for a Kayo subscription.

  • Wasn't this already on kayo??

    • +1

Yep, now you gotta have 2 streaming services as Amazon doesn't cover the rest of the cricket or AFL/NRL

      • must be the reason why my dad got given a discount for next 12 months for kayo then

  • will NBA work if I use VPN on prime?

  • So if you have amazon prime, you can watch matches for free on prime video or is there any other pay per click thing to add it?

  • +1

Ireland vs United States game live in under 19 men's world cup on prime video right now… what a time to be alive

    • did not know US plays cricket :-))

  • its good they r ahowing it live
but the app ahould work on OLED damnit!!

  • how is the quality of the stream?
