Uber - Coles - Can a Driver Suggest a 'best Match' for Deli Items - Pretty Useless Order

Had a Uber/Coles delivery which was pretty poor, never had any real issues prior.

Before I get grumpy was interested in peoples take.

Order details:
- 10 items correct
- 1 minor error (chose a pack of herbs rather than the sleeve - don't care)
- 3 missed (no subs offered, best match chosen)
- 1 refunded (sub offered full sugar drink when diet - don't really care not expecting them to go mucking around too much)

Relevant info
- on talking to the driver, he stated they cannot recommend a substitute for 'deli items' via the interface, it needs to be done when you order
- 87% satisfaction rating
- missed 40% of total order value
- $5 tip
- pick up was meet outside
- 7 mins drive time from store to delivery

Curious:
- is it true about the 'deli items'
- how does 87% fare?

I would have specified substitutes if the 'deli item' sub is a thing.

But other drivers seem to have managed it in the past, I remember a bakery item sub for example and it was not offered in this case.

I get uber is a tough gig, but what's the point?

Probably best not to use that service if it is so unreliable. Lucky it is only 7 mins to the store.

and no delivery fees, overpriced items or tips needed…. also WTF at tips in Australia!

Don't do this people. Tipping creates a view that businesses can underpay staff as it is made up via tips. So Uber offers crap rates to delivery drivers and they hope people tip.

imagine doing your own shopping and avoiding all this convenience induced stress!

I can't wait until there is "Uber - OzBargain". Then I can outsource all of my OzBargain comments to someone on below minimum wage.

not a case of that, people use delivery services for all sorts of reasons

    $5 tip

    Why did you tip???

    This isn't USA.

    • +7

They wanted good service….. but failed to get it!

But agree, don't tip. Don't start that crap here in Australia, pay people correctly in the first place.

    • Must be a Tasmanian thing

    A) go to the shop yourself.
    B) use the actual Coles delivery if you for some reason must get it delivered.
    C) do not tip in Australia.
    D) go to the shop yourself

    • -6

It's quite acceptable to give a tip, only as long as condition A and/or D is met.

  • Not worth it anymore with the price increases.

Used to order groceries often, especially via doordash.

their promos + paying with (15% off) discounted gift cards meant serious savings.

  • They almost never got me rye bread, choosing wholemeal instead. And order $15 of ham and they bring you $2 of ham. But yeah price increase means it's not worth it. The prices will probably keep going up too.

  • Also I've noticed with Uber when you order through Coles the driver will choose, but with Door Dash the drivers tend to ask you what you want through the app.

Never tip, stop being brainwashed by seppos

I don't understand a word you just said

  • So just sharing the outcome from UberEats. I doubt they will bother to do any different.

Basically you were not charged for those items.

If the driver keeps repeating the behaviours he may eventually might be restricted in the site.

It is not my intention to make comments anymore. But I think its worth letting people know.

I already dont like to use delivery services much honestly, hot food is always cold, cold is always room temperature, prices are too high with the added fees etc.

Go walk or ride a vehicle to nearest place directly honestly you would 75%+ of times get a better experience

    • Me either, but seems like a great way for other people to receive free random food at their doorstep judging by all the posts on our community FB group.

  • I dlbought at Coles via uber..it was so bad.

Just a quick update. I wasn't expecting to post.

Although their responses were pretty vague and gave no indication, I was just issued a refund of the order.

I have read all the comments and especially note the increase in grocery prices where they had been mostly the same prior. This is a recent change.

My reason for making this post was to get an answer to the query, but it has seemed to communicate my experience for others.

I really don't care if someone uses delivery out of 'laziness' for example, that's their decision. But they may not get the expected outcome.

For those who might use it for health reasons, I think its worth sharing too.

I don't care if this is taken as a 'snowflake', but for some people 'traditional' grocery shopping can cause overstimulation where they may also tend to crave/make poor food choices. So they may want to use other options, or know if the ones available are useful to manage their 'capacity'.

If not, then they can take that into account.

Anyway thanks to those who responded.

    • I don't have Uber/Doordash where I live but I get regular deliveries from Coles and it only costs me $3.50 for the $2 delivery window (1pm-7pm Tues-Fri) plus the paperbags.

      …buying groceries is traumatic.

but for some people 'traditional' grocery shopping can cause overstimulation where they may also tend to crave/make poor food choices

What a time to be alive.

      • …devolutionary decline. we are witnessing it.

      • Nice to be alive it is indeed

A long way to go given its still common for people with depression to 'just feel better', victims of domestic violence 'to just leave them', vaccines cause autism etc.,

But there have been societal changes.

As for 'devolutionary decline' well a lot of neurodivergent people exceed in a 'crisis' or into areas of scientific research.

Seems odd to behave 'offended' about someone else's brain architecture/chemistry.

It seems quite easy for our brains to make the connection that different=bad, not sure I agree its based on 'picking the fruit that won't kill us' or 'spotting a predator' but its notable.

Maybe before anyone decides to fire off comments that could be interpreted in a harmful way, it might be better to spend that energy elsewhere.

It adds nothing to answering the original question and it would be easy to interpret its there just to satisfy or 'prop up' individual ego needs at the expense of others.

Not interested in 'well you posted so you can't control the responses'. That is indeed true, but you know who can, those who respond.
        .

    • Heard of click and collect? Theres no overstimulation there. Pfft

  • I use Milkrun, owned by Woolworths.
First three deliveries free, however if you uninstall the app, and use another email, more free deliveries.
The items on the order are picked and packed by staff at the Woolworths Metro store.
We often order hot roast chicken. If out of stock, Milkrun will ring you asking if you are prepared to wait until the next batch is cooked.
Their prices are about 50 cents above Woolworths normal prices, but for a small order it is less than the cost of petrol to get to the store and return.
