  • Land Tortoise

looks like a watch to me

its called that because they use tortoise shell to make the indices on the dial….in finland which is where the seiko factory is located.

My guess was it's a nickname is due to the case shape. It still seems to have a Seiko turtle case. It's not marked divers watch I assumed it's relegated to land tortoise status.

      • I wouldnt be supporting that then, not that I find that model too attractive.

It's actually a play on words from the turtle knick name relating to the shape of the case.

These are all knick names not Seiko model numbers remember.

  • This has been my daily for the last month. Classic Seiko with a rubbish bracelet but an fkm strap fixed that up. It is so comfortable on wrist, nice and slim and can tell the time at a glance. The bezel is a friction type and not a clicky one so it's very easy to align accurately. My favourite part is the barely noticeable date window at 4:30.

    • 4:30 date window is not the horological crime many make it out to be….

      • usually when I glance at my wrist it's at an angle where 4:30 date makes the most sense

        • I hate date windows, even more so day date windows. Because it's nice and discrete I don't even bother setting it. 99.9% of the time I want to know the time, not the date.

          • +1

@MS Paint: how can you not set the date….are you a nihilist?

          • @MS Paint: Aesthetically I prefer no date, but practically I do appreciate em. I'm a fella who sometimes needs to know what the date is

      • Yeah I prefer 4 o'c like on the tunas and citizen eco-drive in place of, or smaller indicy.

4.30 looks cramped in between indicies like I've seen on some turtles, but ok and common on Seiko chronographs.

    • How do you even tell time on this?!

12 years of primary and secondary education. Took a while for the penny to drop but I had a firm grasp of the concept before my year 12 exam.

        • clearly speckledjim could only afford casio digitals when he was growing up.

            @franco cozzo: Pegged.
Still have my Casio Car race from 1984.

            • @Speckled Jim: that looks incredible…
you would have been godlike amongst your peers at recess, back in the day.

@franco cozzo: Opened Pandora's box now. WN will throw Casio links at me. I'll cry an anguished cry as I curse their weak resin.
Spring bars have virtually ruined two Casio resin cases for me. I never had the proper springbar tool, always using a mini screwdriver.

Holes got big and elongated. Repairs needed. Tears shed. One's an Edifice.

for are we not all horologists?

        • There must be an "intent" weighting for comments, because a virtually identical question was deleted for trolling recently.

Just under that, we can't link to a deleted comment.

          • @Speckled Jim: It takes a fair effort to get a comment deleted for trolling so probably was because of other comments as well.

              @WatchNerd:

all over a sub-$10 watch deal.

See, aren't you glad you posted?

Edit: I upvoted this deal too, but I declare this is the last Seiko I'm upvoting.

@Speckled Jim: Well, that person also proceeded to dig themselves deeper into a hole with following comments. They made it clearly evident they were out to poison the comments.

Edit: I forgot to add that it was all over a sub-$10 watch deal. Some folks are Just Plain Dumb.

@Chazzozz: Camera two, tight on Jackie, cue the song:
Folks are dumb where I come from…

Speaking of which, who here feels like an author?

              • +3

@Speckled Jim: Didn't expect a hey hey it's Saturday reference on a watch deal thread yet here we are.

                • @MS Paint: Miasma of trolls cluttering up things. They make OzB fun and complicated all at once.

How about Perfect Match? I had to watch a bunch on YT until I saw the Rado watches prize. They're advertising in Top Gear mag, and back then I thought they were a two-bit micro. Turns out they're old-school Swiss.

Rado. Not the first brand I'd think of.

                  • @Speckled Jim: Be good if all the comments got deleted with the top comment like YouTube, or if the mods cleaned it up or whinge pool.

Sounds like you should become a mod!
