Was at chemist warehouse shopping for 1/2 price La Roche Posay then got told Cerave is half price as well, but only for 4 days. Time to stock up!
Credit to @moocher: Cerave cleansers are all $10 at Priceline at the moment, including the big sizes!

Oh thank you, will add to description!
Also priceline doesnt stock the 1L hydrating cleanser
Fair enough, $16.49/1L at CW beats $10/473 ml at Priceline. Do you use it on your body? I find that it takes me ages to even go through the 473ml cleansers
Yup and no sale on the day and night face moisturisers so CW is the way to go.
Chemist warehouse will price beat so it ended up being $9.85 for me
Chemist warehouse does price beat
It is a hassle at my local CW, it's always busy and they make me wait for the store manager. It might be easier in other stores.
Shouldnt be. Normally the cashier just checks on the computer and takes it off. Maybe let head office know.
@RickyPoontang: Maybe it's better now, I haven't tried for a few years because I was put off by that experience
@moocher: I have had the same experience at couple of stores. Took almost 20 minutes each time and people were lining up.
My local will only price beat one item per product
@Chookt: https://www.chemistwarehouse.com.au/AboutUs/faq
How does the Lowest Price Guaranteed offer work?
The price matching policy is limited to the retail limit applicable or a maximum quantity of three of each product.
@tonester: I’m going to show them this next time! Thanks!
@Chookt: Omg my guy was a pain too. He took forever hoping I'd go away and I just stood there. He even went to "speak to the manager" but it was so obvious he was the franchisee. Accused me of having a fake priceline website when I showed on my phone. Then told me he can't see it on his screen (which was in an angle in the counter where I couldn't see it - so I offered to come back around there and show him). Finally gave it.
Also their price beat policy sucks - it's 10% of the difference, not 10% off the competitor price.
@RickyPoontang: That's annoying! Yeah you're kinda at their mercy and have to wait until they process the price beat.
@RickyPoontang: Trying hard to not make it worth the trouble for you. Unfortunately it did work in putting me off
@Chookt: I'm going to give this feedback to the chemist warehouse owners. Im sure I can find their emails.
@RickyPoontang: At least they gave something, but not in reality. They only price matched !
@RickyPoontang: 10% off the difference is good enough, i purchased a sensodyne toothpaste, they were selling at like $12, i priced matched with big w because they were having 50% off. Then it reduced like 60cents more.
For the store you got the rude manager you should email the webstore, they will esculate it to head office.
Unfortunately they stopped. I just tried to price match today at Westfield parra but they said they stopped price matching Priceline.
Should report, thats a bizarre comment. Priceline is their main competitor.
Thats like bunnings saying oh yep weve stopped price matching anyone who sells hardware and tools.
Cheapest I have ever seen some of these Cerave products, but it only lets you buy 3 online?
I went instore today and was told it was 3 per person. Guess it’s being enforced online too
I used to buy Cerave all the time. But once it started being manufactured in china, my skin tends to feel itchy on random occasions after using it.
The products you're referring to are likely similar to those available on AliExpress. Initially manufactured in Spain, production has since shifted to China. Additionally, there is a version produced in New York, USA, but it appears to be exclusively available in the US market.
Thanks for that, noted will double check where it's made before buying.
Lol standard OzBargain comment, allergic to China
Would you trust Chinese products on your skin?
The daily moisturizer that I bought last year from CW was made in France, so fingers crossed it's still the same.
Just checked. The cleansers and moisturisers are made in China.
What sizes? I placed an order for the 1L ones.
@AussieDaddy: I didn’t check all of them, but the ones I checked are all made in China.
The 1L bottles of cleanser and moisturiser I just bought are made in Spain. The smaller bottles are made in China
Glad to hear that. I might buy more in store if any left when picking up mine before the Europian-made ones disappear from the shelves.
Thank you for the heads up. I carefully checked before I buy and only buy the ones made in France or Spain.
Is cerave and la Roche good for acne/pimples? Anyone suggest what I should get?
You can try the cerave products for blemishes or the LRP acne range
Cerave is a brand. Are you referring to cleanser or moisturiser?
A good baseline is:
Retinol (gp prescribed Tret - the over the counter ones are too weak usually) @ night time
Topped after a few minutes with Cerave moisturiser tub (i personally like the lotion from the bottle)
Day time:
Cerave moisturiser
Topped with Laroche Posay Anthelios - I only use this on face and 2-3 tubes last an year for me.
Cerave foaming cleanser to wash face morning and night.
La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo (+). Really helps with my hormonal pimples, I haven’t had one in months and they used to pop up weekly. I put a thin layer on before moisturiser.
I started using the CeraVe SA Smoothing Cream on my face once or twice daily about a year ago after my acne came back when I stopped taking Doxycycline and found it to have really improved my skin and dare I say, cured my cystic acne. I would suggest it's worth a try for $9.99. I'm stocking up with this deal.
I also started using sunscreen consistently since that time which may have helped too, I just used an affordable facial sunscreen though I have tried LRP and found it quite nice.
Yes but what is a cerave when it's at home?
Owned by L'Oréal Group https://boycott.thewitness.news/target/loreal
thanks, will buy extra
Is CeraVe any good though? Which products are good aprt from the eye repair cream and Skin Renewing Night Cream 48g
Cerave is a popular brand for cleansers, e.g. good quality at affordable price. Not sure about other products if it’s better than other brands though.
Even some online retailers that used to primarily stock only Asian skincare & beauty products are now stocking them due to demand.
I heard their Ceramide is one of the highest when compared to more expensive brands
Yeah i bought a few thingies - see how my skin likes it in the next month.
1/2 price La Roche Posay isn't even across the entire range. So miffed about it.
I think it is. They had signs in the entire la roche shelves.
Yeah I saw an item wasn't on sale but didn't realise it was discontinued and there was a replacement (which was on sale).
wow never heard of Cerave and I thought I was well travelled
ChatGPT FTW ;-)
Att: koplik8 & alcadive - the ChatGPT algo disagrees with your basis for the negative vote
There's like 10 different cleansers, what's the difference between them all?
each is targeted for a different skin type. some people have skin that is dry, some people have skin that is more oily, and so on.
Thank you. Was going to buy some Cerave products yesterday but decided to wait.
very proud of you.
totes.
Gee, thanks mate. I just had to tell the Oz Bargain Community about my good fortunes.
lucky you.
Do bikies use it?
Any Australian owned or Korean brand that's equivalent to Cerave Foaming Cleaner?
MooGoo do a nice foaming cleanser although I can’t say if it’s equivalent to anything from Cerave as I’ve never used their products.
Appreciate the recommendation, I'll look it up and can give it a go.
That depends, are you just looking for a foaming cleanser or a foaming cleanser with ceramides?
Either way you'll be hard pressed to find a good quality cleanser of equal quality to the cerave at this price point.
If I didn't had a bunch of cleansers already, I would definitely jump on this.
Not a 100% sure about the ceramides.
I'm at the end of my first ever CeraVe Foaming Cleanser, my skin is more or less the same as before.
Not worried too much about the price, I just prefer buying local or Korean made.
so any Australian-owned Korean-made brand/product would be perfect for you?
You can try the software skin salicylic acid foaming wash, they're Aussie based last I checked.
That said, I am of the mind that cleansers provide the least improvement to your skin condition, they don't sit on your face long enough to do anything.
I just used the app to see about the ingredients in these products and they don't rate very highly if you care about that kind of thing.
Those apps are not scientifically credible. These products are perfectly fine.
what app?
which ingredients?
which particular products?
what kind of thing?
I was looking on Yuka
Most products I looked at had a single higher/moderate risk ingredient; mostly propylparaben, phenoxyethanol or ethylhexyl salicylate.
The sunscreen had quite a few - octinoxate, octocrylene, butylated hydroxytoluene, propylparaben and some moderate risk ingredients as well. To be fair, I find sun screen usually does, but still.
Can post some of the related papers if anyone is interested?
Propylparaben is a common ingredient used as a preservative, FDA themselves says there's no hazard with parabens themselves.
Source: https://www.fda.gov/cosmetics/cosmetic-ingredients/parabens-…
Phenoxyethanol is another preservative, as far as I know there's no issue with this ingredient unless you plan to digest it directly.
Ethylhexyl salicylate is a sunscreen filter, has been reevaluated in 2019 (with a pass) and is approved by the FDA and EU for use.
If you're looking for skincare products with no preservatives, then you're going to have a tough time. If you dislike chemical sunscreens, then look for physical sunscreens.
Parabens (as your first listed example) are so safe they are given ‘GRAS’ status (generally recognised as safe) and approved for use by food and drug agencies (including TGA) in every country in the world. They regularly win ‘non-allergen award of the year’ from American Contact Dermatitis Society. And all of the products by cerave are highly dermatologist approved including some with Eczema Association Australia stamp of approval.
Parabens in cosmetics are among the most well studied chemicals of all time.
If you see such overwhelming recommendations from experts in the field, I mean, that should raise alarm bells that apps like Yuka are not based in scientific fact.
Can you take a screenshot of their report/reason on what makes the sunscreen or the ingredients bad?
Everything is toxic at certain concentrations. Sunscreen is probably 100% dangerous if you eat it.
@Ughhh: I'm not sure how to attach it though
@Lil0leMe: you can upload files to your OzB account via https://www.ozbargain.com.au/user/419041/files
thanks, never heard of Yuka before - what are its data sources and evaluation criteria?
@tonester: The first four are direct links from Yuka, the others are studies mentioned that I've looked up on pubmed etc but haven't got access to the full article.
From what I understand (just a pleb) parabens have been found in breast tissue and seminal fluid but it is not clear how they got there. Most of the research is in rats though

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/22777679/
https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S08906…
@Lil0leMe: Most of those rats were exposed to the parabens orally. Unless you're planning on eating the cleanser, it wouldn't be a fair comparison. Toxicity level can depend on delivery method and concentrations.
@Ughhh: Fair. I just think there are better alternatives.
@Lil0leMe: such as?
@Lil0leMe: thanks for that screenshot of Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser, which is a fairly basic product - unfortunately not all of its ingredients are shown:
sodium benzoate is a preservative, which can often be the ingredient/s of concern/contention - EWR score it 1-3
CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser, is a better product, with, as its name implies, more hydrating ingredients:
AQUA/WATER, GLYCERIN, CETEARYL ALCOHOL, PHENOXYETHANOL, STEARYL ALCOHOL, CETYL ALCOHOL, PEG-40 STEARATE, BEHENTRIMONIUM METHOSULFATE, GLYCERYL STEARATE, POLYSORBATE 20, ETHYLHEXYLGLYCERIN, POTASSIUM PHOSPHATE, DISODIUM EDTA, DIPOTASSIUM PHOSPHATE, SODIUM LAUROYL LACTYLATE, CERAMIDE NP,CERAMIDE AP, PHYTOSPHINGOSINE, CHOLESTEROL, SODIUM HYALURONATE, XANTHAN GUM, CARBOMER, TOCOPHEROL, CERAMIDE EOP.
note that as per disclaimer, the listing order is different on the actual packaging
like sodium benzoate, phenoxyethanol is a preservative, scoring 2-4 by EWR
for one that's better than Cetaphil's but similarly priced, i use and recommend DermaVeen Extra Hydration Gentle Soap-Free Wash or Dermeze Moisturising Soap Free Wash - both are 40% off at Priceline until tomorrow, $16.19 and $12.59, respectively, for 1L
@Lil0leMe: The problem is there actually aren’t better alternatives at all. It’s all well and good to say “just to be safe, how about avoid them anyway.”
But do what? Turn to less effective, less studied, less data-driven preservatives? No preservatives at all? Risk mould?
Parabens have the greatest safety data backing them than any other preservative. They are the gold standard for safety. Avoiding them is misinformed.
Parabens should be an indication of high safety and high quality formulation. You should be hesitant to use cosmetics without them.
The papers/findings you are linking are basically irrelevant. For example, yes parabens are found in cancer. Much like cancer contains…. sugars… proteins… salts…. water… but would you consider any of those a concern? No you wouldn’t. “Found in cancer” doesn’t mean causes cancer. Parabens are naturally occurring substances.
Similarly, overdosing rats on substances has adverse effects, go figure. Not surprising, not meaningful research. Are you eating it? No. Applying a large percentage of your body weight? No. A rat? No. So why worry about rats eating mass volumes of their own mass?
We face genuine safety concerns when these unfounded fears push safe and effective ingredients out of the market and push us towards less proven novel chemicals.
@Lil0leMe: thanks for all that, but just as important as data sources, are evaluation criteria - how are risk ratings determined, what do they mean?
in case you're unaware of it, i suggest that you check Paula's Choice Beautypedia Skin Care Ingredient Checker
there's also Environmental Working Group (EWG) Skin Deep
@tonester: Thanks for sharing your links, EWG and Paula's choice will be worth a peruse for sure :)
But I'm going to stick with the Yuka recommendations as it doesn't appear to be giving me a bum steer here.
@Lil0leMe: no worries, but just remember with Yuka recommendations - it can't hurt - but can it help?
@Lil0leMe: sorry, forgot to mention INCIDecoder - it's similar to Beautypedia, but also allows one to search for products, and not only gives a similar overall benefit-hazard rating, but also one for irritancy risk alone
Why smear petro chemicals on your face? What exactly are you hoping to achieve?
Water itself will wash oil?
I just use Morning Fresh concentrate for that.
Was just at my local CW, in terms of country of manufacture, this is what I saw on the label
The shelf was looking a bit bare so looks like a lot has been sold already.
What sizss were tbe Hydrating cleanser & Daily moisturising lotion? 1L or smaller? People in the comments were reporting different countries for different sizes.
From memory I checked 236ml and 473ml sizes of the cleansers, and two sizes of the moisturising lotion (1L and 236ml).
And FYI the 236ml cream-to-foam cleansers from Priceline yesterday were also made in China
Have just picked up 1L each of hydrating cleanser and daily moisturising lotion, and both are made in Spain. Checked the shelves and there were no 1L ones left. Wish I ordered an extra 1L moisturising lotion yesterday. CeraVe is my daily moisturiser, and I hope they'll keep making the bigger sizes in Europe.
what's the best moisturiser for anti ageing?
Anything is good, as long as it's hydrating. If you really want to target fine lines/collagen production (classic signs of 'ageing') I'd suggest seeing looking into retinol and its family. Cerave sells a retinol moisturiser which could be worth a shot (I've never used though)
Note that Cerave cleansers are all $10 at Priceline at the moment, including the big sizes. So unless you're getting the smaller foaming cleanser or hydrating cleanser, the other cleansers are cheaper at Priceline.
But for non-cleansers, this is whopper deal
